Chapter 94 - Slowly

Robert.

The door clicked shut behind us.

The sound was soft, but it felt final.

For a moment, I just stood there looking at her.

Tessa.

Standing in the middle of our bedroom like she wasn't sure whether to be shy or certain. The dim light caught in her hair, softened the edges of her expression. She looked fragile tonight.

But she also looked like she had made a decision.

And that did something dangerous to my self-control.

I stepped closer.

Slowly.

I didn't want to rush her. Not after everything. Not when I could still see the faint trace of exhaustion in her eyes.

"You were crying," I said quietly.

It wasn't an accusation. Just an observation.

She hesitated, then looked down slightly. "I was just overwhelmed."

My jaw tightened.

I hated that word.

Overwhelmed meant someone or something had pushed her too far. And I wasn't there.

I reached out, brushing my fingers gently under her chin, lifting her face back toward me.

"Did someone upset you?" I asked.
