Lilian's POV

"Drop the act, Lilian," Augusto's voice cut through the air like a blade, each word dripping with venom. "Where was all this guilt when you were calling my grandmother a fraud and destroying her bracelet right in front of her?"

My throat constricted as sobs wracked my body. "I'm sorry," I gasped, shaking my head frantically as tears poured down my face. "Augusto, I had no idea she was ill. Please, I'm so sorry."

His eyes narrowed to slits. "You had no idea?" A cruel laugh escaped his lips as he looked away. "Miss Sterling, I see right through you. You've always despised people like us, always believed you were superior to everyone around you."

The accusation hit me like a physical blow. "That's not—"

"When my grandmother offered you that bracelet, you were revolted," he continued, his voice growing more savage with each word. "So tell me honestly, even if you'd known about her condition, you still would have treated her like dirt, wouldn't you?"
