The question caught me off guard for a moment, but I kept my composure and nodded. "What's your timeline for the divorce filing?"

I checked the clock after a short silence, keeping my voice even. "Actually, why don't we handle it right now? City hall's still open."

Reed's eyes turned ice-cold, his entire demeanor shifting in a heartbeat.

His jaw tightened. "You're that eager to get away from me?"

I could see him wrestling with his thoughts. 'Does she really want out this badly, or is this just some kind of act?'

I stared at him, bewildered.

'Hold on—wasn't divorce his idea in the first place? So what's with this sudden reluctance?' I wondered.

Panic started creeping in as I worried he might back out.

My eyebrows drew together. "Reed, we already settled this. If it wasn't for my injured leg, we'd already be officially done."

His eyes dropped to my wheelchair, and something like relief mixed with thankfulness crossed his features.
