Reed's POV
Callan glanced at Lorelei and gave her a nod of approval.
"Your mother makes sense. Lorelei's polite, considerate, and comes from good stock. You two fit together perfectly. No point in dragging this out. Just dump Jenifer and make Lorelei your wife."
My fork stopped halfway to my mouth. I couldn't bring myself to respond. The reality was, I didn't want the divorce. Regret was eating me alive about that trip to city hall. All I could do was pray Jenifer would reconsider and come back.
Eliza's fury blazed when I stayed quiet. "What's wrong with you? Say something."
Romano, who'd been munching away next to us, looked up with wide eyes. "Grandma," he said around a mouthful of food, "is Lorelei gonna be my new mommy?"
Eliza's face instantly brightened as she stabbed a fat meatball and dropped it on Romano's plate. "That's right, honey. Isn't that exciting? You'd love having Lorelei as your mommy, wouldn't you?"
