Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

For John, the crisis was over.

But for Jessie and the others, there were still two Deformed Cannibals hiding in the shadows, and the most important thing was to run and then call the police.

The four chose to stick together and escape.

John fell behind midway; he had to go back and check. Otherwise, if the Deformed Cannibal boss really died and he couldn't contain it, it would be too much of a waste.

In a world where killers might appear at any moment, not containing a few more monsters really didn't provide a sense of security.

Following the location given by Deformed Man Number Two,

John found the two Deformed Men in a forest. The boss was pinned to a tree by Number Two, unable to move, constantly letting out roars.

John didn't understand and didn't want to understand. With a thought, a 2 of Clubs appeared in his hand.

"Detected containable object: Deformed Cannibal."

"Contain? Yes/No."

"Contain."

The 2 of Clubs automatically flew out and plunged into the Deformed Cannibal boss's chest, instantly absorbing his entire being into the card, which then flew back automatically.

John caught the 2 of Clubs. On it was the image of a Deformed Cannibal, but it was different from the one he had contained the first time.

This one was much stronger and taller.

That meant this one was the most severely contaminated; he had drunk more chemical waste than the others.

Looking at Deformed Man Number Two next to him,

even in the pitch-black forest, he felt completely safe. This was the importance of having a subordinate.

John hadn't forgotten that these phantom cards had another function, which was to...

"Extract."

Each card could potentially extract one ability from the contained object, though this ability might only be half or even ten percent of the original, depending on luck.

Of course, if you extracted an unsatisfactory ability, you could choose to abandon it directly.

This function was quite ingenious.

What if he extracted chemical mutation and couldn't abandon it, eventually fusing and turning into a Deformed Cannibal? That would be terrible.

John was quite satisfied with his appearance and had no immediate desire to become strange-looking.

Besides, if he really wanted to change, it wasn't as if he couldn't choose to fuse.

"Contained Object: Deformed Cannibal Boss"

"Extractable Abilities: Chemical Mutation, Strength Enhancement, Resilience Enhancement, Intelligence Weakening, Pain Loss."

There were quite a few abilities, but only two were useful.

Three of them were useless; chemical mutation and intelligence weakening were out of the question.

With pain loss, he wouldn't even know if his throat was slit while he was sleeping.

John then looked at Number Two's abilities.

"Contained Object: Deformed Cannibal Number Two."

"Extractable Abilities: Chemical Mutation, Strength Enhancement, Vision Enhancement, Resilience Enhancement, Intelligence Weakening, Pain Loss."

He had an extra Vision Enhancement compared to the boss; he was indeed good with a bow.

John chose to extract simultaneously. Soon, the two cards began to change rapidly, circling among the various abilities and finally stopping at...

"Fusable Abilities: Chemical Mutation, Vision Enhancement."

His luck was decent, a two-fifths chance after all. Seeing this, John discarded chemical mutation and chose vision enhancement. Although it was a bit of a minor ability, it was at least somewhat useful.

"Fuse."

The next second, John closed his eyes, feeling a cool sensation in his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, the dark forest had become clearer; he could at least see the path. It was somewhat like wearing night vision goggles, but the effect was slightly weaker.

Only fifty percent effective, but already very good. Deformed Men were just mutations; they weren't particularly strong monsters in American horror.

Now, John wondered where the remaining Deformed Cannibal had gone?

In his opinion, a family should be complete and together.

Running away alone was not something a good Deformed Cannibal should do.

...

On the highway.

Chris looked like he had narrowly escaped death. He was an ordinary person who was going to Raleigh for a job and decided to take a shortcut, but he unexpectedly encountered a Deformed Cannibal.

This job was definitely ruined; his boss would never believe a story about an Ogre.

Just as Chris was about to continue, Jessie and Carly started arguing.

The reason was that John had disappeared midway.

Jessie believed they shouldn't leave John alone inside and should go back to find him, but Carly, who had just reunited with her boyfriend, absolutely refused to go back to that place.

Scott wanted to go back and save him; John had saved his life.

Chris heard them. His rationality told him to first run to a safe place and call the police, but his emotions told him he shouldn't just abandon John like that.

John was listening to their argument from the woods.

He had just arrived. The Deformed Cannibal Number Three had hidden somewhere, so he decided to come back and meet up with Chris and the others first.

Although Chris and the others were a bit foolish, they had good hearts.

John put the two Deformed Men into the Hearts and Clubs cards, then walked out proactively.

The initial movement startled them.

When they saw it was John, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Jessie went forward and hugged John, very excited, saying things like, "God bless you."

"Alright, Jessie, I don't believe in God. Let's get out of here first."

John was a bit overwhelmed by Jessie's enthusiasm. The main thing was that in this season, they were dressed lightly, and the feeling of hugging made him restless. Jessie even wanted to hang on him.

Fortunately, everyone's rationality was still intact. After a brief reunion, they began walking along the highway.

When they were almost at the main road, their phones finally got a signal.

They decisively chose to call the police. Looking at the passing vehicles, they all felt a greater sense of security.

John, as if by magic, had two cards in his hand, then they disappeared again. American police couldn't give him a sense of security, but Deformed Cannibals could.

When the police arrived at the scene,

Chris explained the situation to the police, but the police refused to believe anything about Deformed Cannibals and said they would investigate.

Jessie and the others wanted to swear.

Finally, the group was taken back to the police station for investigation.

The main reason was that a young couple had died—the couple who initially refused to call for help and instead stayed to guard the area.

Chris's heart finally settled down when they arrived at the police station. Those monsters couldn't possibly run into the police station to kill people, right?

After giving their statements, John and the others found a motel in the town and stayed there.

It was too late today; they needed to rest for a day.

Chris had a single room.

It was normal for Scott and Carly to share a room as a couple.

As for Jessie, after witnessing John's strength, she insisted on staying with him. Here, both men and women admire strength.

If Jessie was initially just interested in John, it transformed into desire after he proved himself to be excellent and powerful enough.

But John wasn't very interested in Jessie. He wasn't a eunuch; Jessie simply didn't meet his standards for a girlfriend.

She either had to be an extremely beautiful useless girl or possess some very useful abilities. Jessie didn't meet either of these points, but for just one night, John could accept it.

Second floor of the motel.

Jessie was showering in the bathroom, while John was using a temporarily rented laptop, looking up information about Deformed Cannibals or ghosts and vengeful spirits online.

When he first transmigrated, John thought it was just an ordinary world, and after encountering the Ghost Nun, he thought about leaving Clam Town to avoid the limelight.

Now that he had time, of course, he had to check online.

It was fine before he checked, but after checking, John found that there were an alarming number of cases online, and the more he looked, the more familiar and terrified he became.

Because he even found a TV show specifically for confirming the existence of ghosts.

The more he watched this show, the more it resembled...
