Chapter 37 - Played

"I won't be happy if you end up with a stomach ache, Stacey," Tony growled. He kept his eyes on the road, but his grip on the steering wheel tightened as he watched her out of the corner of his eye. She was attacking that massive slice of cake like it was her last meal. Cassandra had definitely over-served her, but Tony knew Stacey—she never said no to sweets.

It had been a long time since he'd bothered showing up to one of these family things. Usually, they were just boring business meetings disguised as dinner, but having her there made the whole thing feel… different. Refreshing, even.

Stacey took another huge bite, her cheeks puffing out like a squirrel. She turned to look at him, her eyes squinting as if to say, 'What? It's good!'

"When I have you with me, I don't have to worry about a little stomach ache," she said, her voice muffled because her mouth was still half-full. She didn't look away from him, her gaze stubborn and bright.
