Chapter 22 - Space Mission 4

Twinbellows dug its claws into the ground, both heads pulling, trying to drag the massive beast off balance. Fire poured across Great Tusk's armored hide… but the flames slid off like water on stone.

Great Tusk answered with raw force.

It twisted its body and flung Twinbellows sideways, sending the hellhound crashing through three trees before skidding to a stop.

Pit's eyes widened.

"Okay! That thing is WAY heavier than it looks!"

Lucina leapt forward, Falchion glowing.

"Aerial stance!"

She dashed in, slashing across Great Tusk's flank. Sparks flew — but the blade barely cut skin.

Lucina landed, sliding back.

"…Its defense is insane."

Samus fired her charged shot.

A beam of plasma slammed into the creature's face, exploding in light.

When the glow cleared — Great Tusk had only taken a step back.

Fox muttered,

"Yeah… we're gonna need a bigger plan."

Phosphora shot upward, electricity crackling.

"Then let's test if it conducts!"

She dove in a streak of lightning, striking Great Tusk's head.

This time it reacted, letting out a sharp roar, stumbling half a step.

Pit grinned.

"There we go! Lightning works!"

Great Tusk slammed its tusks into the ground.

Earthquake.

The forest floor rippled. Trees toppled. Everyone was thrown off balance.

Link dug his boots in, raising his shield just in time to avoid being launched.

"This thing is basically a walking disaster!"

High above, a cry echoed.

"RRAAAAPTOR!"

Staraptor burst through the treeline and dove toward Ethan's camp.

Back at the battlefield, Twinbellows pushed itself up, growling low. Both heads locked onto the monster again.

Pit raised his bow.

"Alright team… let's not die here!"

The battle had only just begun.

Pit looked at his Pokèball, as he sent out the Crobat from his Pokèball. "Hope you work".

The Crobat looked around confused, wondering where the pack it was leading was.

Then saw Great Tusk charge at him, and Twinbellows being flung back.

It moved away and then attacked with a Cross Poison.

Crobat shot forward like a living shadow, wings slicing the air. Purple energy gathered around its fangs—

Cross Poison!

It struck Great Tusk across the face, leaving glowing violet gashes. This time, the attack bit deep. The massive creature roared, shaking the forest canopy.

Pit pumped his fist.

"Yes! Okay, poison actually works!"

Link glanced at the Pokéball in Pit's hand, then at Crobat moving with smooth, practised instinct.

"…Red's planet confirmed," he muttered.

Great Tusk swung a tusk like a battering ram. Crobat twisted midair, barely avoiding it, then released a burst of toxic mist.

Toxic Spikes scattered across the ground.

Lucina recognised the setup immediately.

"It's laying traps!"

Phosphora smirked.

"Ohhh, I like this bat already."

Samus fired another shot, this time aiming at the poisoned ground. The blast sent toxic dust into the air, surrounding Great Tusk in a violet cloud.

The beast staggered again — slower now.

Fox pointed.

"It's wearing down!"

But Great Tusk wasn't finished.

It slammed both tusks down again—

Headlong Rush.

A shockwave exploded outward. Trees snapped. The Smash team was thrown back once more.

Pit slid across the ground, catching himself.

"Okay! New plan! Before the forest runs out!"

Twinbellows rose again, snarling, flames reigniting along its mane.

Crobat hovered beside Pit, red eyes sharp now, no longer confused.

It had chosen its new pack.

"Swampert, Ice Beam!"

A pillar of freezing light shot across the battlefield.

Great Tusk didn't even have time to roar. The beam struck its chest, ice racing across its body in seconds. The monstrous Pokémon froze solid, locked in a statue of frost.

Silence fell over the forest.

Everyone turned toward the new arrivals.

Bowsette stood there with her arms crossed, smirking. Beside her was a young man in battered survival gear. His goggles rested on his forehead, his cloak torn from travel, and strange spherical devices clipped to his belt. At his side stood a massive blue amphibious Pokémon — Swampert — calmly shaking frost from its arms.

The young man patted Swampert's head.

"Good job, buddy."

Bowsette waved casually.

"Hey, guys."

Later — Inside the Smash Ship

The wounded had been treated. The forest tremors had faded. Now the group gathered around the central console, studying their unexpected guest.

Link leaned forward, arms crossed.

"So… your name is Ethan Hermonia?"

Ethan nodded.

"That's right."

Samus narrowed her eyes, analytical as always.

"And you're claiming this planet… is the ancient past of your world."

Ethan nodded again, expression serious now.

"Yes. In my time, these Pokémon—" he gestured toward the frozen Great Tusk outside the monitor feed, "—are called Paradox Pokémon. Creatures that shouldn't exist in the present. I was pulled here when a time experiment went wrong."

Pit tilted his head.

"So… you're a time-traveling Pokémon trainer stranded in prehistoric Red's planet."

Ethan blinked.

"…When you say it like that, it sounds insane."

Phosphora leaned back in her chair.

"Oh, don't worry. 'Insane' is our default setting."

Sephiroth, standing in the corner with his arms folded, spoke quietly.

"If time distortions exist here… then something greater caused them."

Shulk's eyes flickered as the Monado pulsed faintly.

"I… think he's right."

A low hum rolled through the ship.

The planet outside shimmered — as if reality itself was unstable.

Fox looked at Ethan.

"If you want to go home… and if we want to survive… then we fix your time machine."

Bowsette cracked her knuckles.

"And beat up anything that tries to eat us first."

Pit grinned, wings flaring.

"Welcome to the team, Ethan."

Ethan smiled — a little tired, but hopeful.

"Then… let's save time."

Ethan suddenly looked up.

"You mentioned Romulus earlier."

Fox tilted his head.

"Romulus? Who's that?"

Ethan blinked — then laughed softly.

"Wait… you know him as Red, don't you?"

Samus's visor flickered.

"…Romulus is Red's real name?"

Ethan nodded.

"Yep. Romulus Ketchum. Most people just call him Red. He's not big on talking."

Pit gasped dramatically.

"Red has a full name?!"

Lucina covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Ethan leaned back against the wall, arms folded behind his head.

"He's the Champion of Kanto. I'm the Champion of Johto. We battle once a week on Mt. Silver for training."

Fox whistled.

"Weekly boss fight with the strongest trainer on the planet. Casual."

Phosphora smirked.

"Sounds like a date."

Ethan nearly choked.

"No. Absolutely not. We just battle."

Pit whispered to Link.

"…That's still basically a date."

Link silently nodded.

Sephiroth, still lurking ominously in the corner, spoke quietly.

"If Red exists in this world's present… and you exist in its past… then the timeline is already fractured."

Shulk's Monado glowed faintly again.

"And if the fracture expands…"

Samus finished the thought.

"This planet — and maybe ours — could collapse into paradox."

Silence followed.

Then Bowsette slapped Ethan on the back.

"Well! Guess we'd better fix your time pod fast then!"

Ethan smiled, renewed determination in his red eyes.

"Yeah. Let's do it."

Outside the Smash Ship – Forest Edge

Crunch.

Crunch.

Crunch.

Everyone turned as Kazuya and Snake emerged from the trees, dragging several unconscious creatures behind them.

Round pink bodies with tiny feet.

Ghostly flowing hair.

A metallic beast sparking faint electricity.

Scream Tail. Flutter Mane. Sandy Shocks.

Villager walked behind them, axe resting on his shoulder, completely unbothered.

Kazuya adjusted his gloves calmly.

"We found Villager."

Snake nodded toward the Pokémon on the ground.

"And these things tried to jump us."

Pit blinked.

"…Why does Villager look like this is just a normal Tuesday?"

Villager gave a thumbs up.

Kazuya then glanced at Ethan.

"…And who is he?"

Fox stepped in quickly.

"We'll explain later. Right now— any luck finding Pyra?"

Before anyone could answer, Wolf came jogging out of the forest, slightly out of breath.

"Mario and Bayonetta are still searching. No sign of Pyra yet."

Lucina tightened her grip on her sword.

"We can't waste time. Those creatures are getting more aggressive."

Ethan looked at the unconscious Paradox Pokémon, eyes narrowing.

"They're appearing faster than they should… Something is accelerating the time rift."

Shulk's Monado pulsed again.

"…Then we're already on a timer."

Pit clapped his hands once, trying to lift morale.

"Okay! Team meeting time! We rescue Pyra, fix Ethan's pod, and get everyone home! Easy!"

Sephiroth smirked faintly.

"…Confidence won't save you from collapsing causality."

Pit immediately deflated.

"…Okay, mostly easy."

Everyone sighed — but they were ready.

Ethan's Camp

They stepped out of the treeline.

Everyone stopped.

Before them lay a fully functioning survival camp.

Tents made from stitched monster hide.

Fire pits lined with stone.

Strange metal equipment humming softly.

A crashed escape pod half-buried in soil.

Tool racks.

Spears carved from giant bones.

Berries sorted neatly in wooden containers.

And at the center — a half-built signal tower made from scavenged tech and wood.

Lucina's eyes widened.

"…Impressive."

Samus immediately walked to the carved wooden map. She raised her arm cannon, scanners humming softly as data streamed across her visor.

Snake looked around, arms crossed, nodding once.

"Solid camp. Defensive layout. Good sightlines. Whoever built this knows survival."

Ethan rubbed the back of his head.

"I've had… some time to prepare."

Bowsette smirked.

"Yeah. You didn't just survive here. You made this planet your house."

Pit looked around in wonder.

"This feels like a whole new world…"

Above them, Staraptor landed on a wooden post, letting out a proud cry — as if to say:

Welcome home.

Ethan's Notebook

Ethan sat on a log and opened a worn notebook. The pages were filled with sketches of strange creatures, notes in neat handwriting, and battle observations.

"You said your friends were attacked," he said. "Describe them again."

Pit nodded.

"Orange dragons. Wings. Sharp teeth."

Lucina added, precise as always.

"Terry mentioned four limbs, winged forearms, aggressive pack behavior."

Bowsette crossed her arms.

"I got a better look. Scales. A beak-like mouth. Two arms, but the wings worked like extra limbs. And their tails… were on fire."

Ethan's eyes sharpened.

He flipped to a page and turned the notebook toward them.

A detailed sketch of a massive orange dragon filled the page — plated scales, burning tail, wide wings, vicious jaw.

"That," Ethan said quietly, "is a Rathzard."

Everyone leaned closer.

"Ancestor of Charizard," Ethan explained. "And likely the ancestor of most dragon and lizard Pokémon. They live in packs. Territorial. Extremely aggressive."

Samus frowned.

"So… ancient Pokémon."

Ethan nodded.

"And if they're active here… this planet isn't just the past."

He tapped the page.

"It's a primeval ecosystem. Before modern Pokémon existed. Before balance."

Snake exhaled slowly.

"That explains why they attacked your ship first."

Fox's ears flattened.

"And why my ship got stepped on like a soda can…"

Lucina looked toward the forest.

"Pyra and Mythra were separated in that attack."

Pit tightened his grip on his bow.

"Then we're not just rescuing our friends anymore."

He looked at Ethan.

"We're fighting in a world that shouldn't exist anymore."

Ethan closed the notebook.

"Then you're going to need my help."

Outside, somewhere deep in the jungle…

A Rathzard roared back.

Kazuya heard the roar roll through the jungle.

His eye flickered red for a moment. The Devil inside him stirred.

He closed his eyes and spoke calmly.

"Before we run in blindly… how big are these Rathzard?"

Ethan didn't hesitate.

"Eleven to twenty-two meters in length. That's thirty-six to seventy-two feet. Those are the normal ones."

He tapped another sketch in his notebook.

"The Alphas are larger."

A quiet beat passed.

Mario whistled.

"Okay. That's… big."

Bayonetta crossed her legs and smiled.

"Big things die just as nicely. They just scream louder."

Sephiroth didn't even look impressed.

"Hmph."

Lucina glanced at Pit.

"You've fought gods before. How does this compare?"

Pit scratched his cheek.

"Well… gods talk first. These seem to bite first."

Snake folded his arms.

"Then standard procedure. Recon first. No charging in."

Kazuya opened his eyes again.

The red glow faded, but his tone stayed sharp.

"If one of these attacks us… I won't hold back."

Bowsette cracked her knuckles, flames flickering from her wrists.

"Good. Because I owe those things for throwing my friends around."

Ethan stood and clipped his Pokéballs to his belt.

"I'll guide you. But listen carefully. Rathzard packs hunt by sound and movement. Stay quiet. Stay tight. And if you see glowing orange eyes in the dark…"

He paused.

"Run. Or be ready to fight."

Outside the camp, the jungle answered with another roar.

Closer this time.

Pit lifted his bow, wings spreading instinctively.

"Alright then. Let's go save our friends… and not get eaten doing it."

The group moved out into the ancient forest.

And somewhere above the canopy, burning tails cut through the night sky.

Pit had barely finished blinking when the sky split open.

A column of golden light tore down from the clouds.

Metal screamed. Air ignited.

And then—

SIREN descended.

A towering white-and-gold mecha, wings spread like a divine warframe, twin radiant swords humming with power. Every step cracked the ground. Every movement felt like a hymn sung through steel.

Lucina stared upward, breath caught.

"That's Siren."

Pit tugged her sleeve.

"Si-what now?"

Samus didn't even look away from the battlefield.

"Mythra's combat construct. A summoned weapon of mass destruction."

Pit opened his mouth.

Closed it.

Opened it again.

"…Wahhh?"

Mario was already sprinting toward higher ground.

"Don't ask! Just come!"

The group rushed forward through the trees. Branches whipped past. The roar of monsters shook the forest. When they burst out onto a cliff edge—

They saw it.

Pyra and Mythra stood back-to-back in the clearing below.

Fire and light danced around them.

And surrounding them…

Rathzard. Dozens.

Orange-scaled dragon-lizards with burning tails and wings like razors. They circled in packs, screeching, diving, slashing.

At the center of the swarm stood one larger creature.

Its scales were black as obsidian.

Its tail burned with deep violet flame.

Its eyes glowed like molten gold.

A Shiny Alpha Rathzard.

Ethan inhaled sharply.

"…That's bad."

Bowsette's fists ignited.

"Finally. The one that threw me."

Siren moved first.

The mecha lifted both swords.

Light gathered.

Then it carved a blazing cross through the sky, slicing three Rathzard out of the air in one sweep. Explosions of flame and scale rained down.

Mythra's voice echoed from within Siren.

"Pyra! Right side!"

Pyra leapt, blade blazing. A pillar of fire erupted, forcing the pack back.

But the Alpha Rathzard roared—

and the forest answered with more screeches.

Lucina gripped her sword.

"We can't just watch."

Snake nodded once.

"Alright. Formation."

Kazuya's eye flared red.

"I've waited long enough."

Pit spread his wings, bow forming in his hands.

"Let's go save them."

Ethan released three Pokéballs.

"Swampert. Staraptor. Roaring Moon. Engage!"

Light flashed. Creatures roared.

Heroes leapt from the cliff.

And the ancient jungle became a battlefield of gods, monsters, steel, and flame.

Above them, Siren's wings blazed like a second sun.

The hunt had begun.
