Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Wouldn't It Be Fine If They Weren't Human?

Sobu High School, Class 3-C.

After taking a day off, Leon today used a magic circle to jump directly to the Service Club's room with Yukino Yukinoshita, before heading to his classroom.

However, as soon as he entered, Leon noticed that his classmates were secretly observing him, whispering and pointing.

"What's going on?"

Leon scratched his hair, which he had only casually managed after waking up. His hair looked a bit messy, but it didn't give a sense of sloppiness; instead, it had a kind of messy beauty.

"Isn't this the Demon King, who took a day off to do who-knows-what? Why did he show up today?"

Just then, a somewhat graceful voice entered Leon's ears, causing him to look over at the literary girl who, as always, was sitting at her desk, engrossed in a book.

"You yourself said I only took a day off, so naturally, I had to come today." Leon casually sat down next to Utaha Kasumigaoka, looking at her, and asked curiously, "It was just one day off, so why does everyone look a bit strange?"

Hearing this, Utaha Kasumigaoka raised her eyelids, subtly glanced at Leon, then withdrew her gaze and spoke without emotion.

"Taking a day off is certainly not strange, but spending the whole day with Sobu High's famous Winter Flower in the club room—that's stranger than anything else."

Upon hearing Utaha Kasumigaoka's words, Leon somewhat understood.

"So, Yukino and I have become the subject of dating rumors?"

Leon looked enlightened.

"Yukino... huh?" This time, Utaha Kasumigaoka looked directly at Leon, her expression turning into a subtle smile. "You've already started calling her by her first name. It seems the rumors have some credibility after all."

"Is the Senior jealous?" Leon blinked, then smiled, saying, "I can call you Utaha directly too, you know."

"There's no need for that, just don't call me 'Senior.'" Utaha Kasumigaoka scoffed. "Are you deliberately changing the subject? Are you brave enough to do it but not to admit it?"

"If I had actually done it, I would definitely admit it," Leon spread his hands. "The problem is I haven't made a move yet, so what am I supposed to admit?"

"In other words, you admit that you indeed want to make a move on Yukinoshita?" Utaha Kasumigaoka's dark red eyes narrowed. "Daring to pursue the second daughter of the Yukinoshita family, your nerve is even greater than I imagined, Demon King."

Hearing Utaha Kasumigaoka's words, Leon finally realized a problem.

Since Yukino Yukinoshita had become his familiar, and she was entering and leaving places with him, even living at his house, the Yukinoshita family couldn't possibly be unaware of it.

Although Yukino Yukinoshita was currently living alone, he had reason to believe that a certain Miss Yukinoshita, who was a siscon just like the current Demon Lord Leviathan, would certainly be monitoring her sister's movements in secret and might have already found out about this matter.

Even if they didn't know yet, they would eventually find out. After all, Sobu High had already started spreading rumors; it was only a matter of time before the outside world knew.

Will I have to face the traditional urban plot of being found by the girl's family and having trouble with them later?

Thinking of this, Leon felt somewhat subtle, yet curious and anticipatory.

However, he didn't show it, continuing to smile at Utaha Kasumigaoka.

"After all, I'm a Devil. My audacity is only greater than you imagine." Leon teased meaningfully, "Perhaps I don't just want to make a move on Yukino."

Utaha Kasumigaoka's dark red eyes immediately narrowed even further, then she suddenly smiled.

The smile was beautiful, like a budding flower suddenly blooming, causing the male students who were paying attention to be stunned, their hearts beating wildly.

But Leon, who was at the closest distance to face this beautiful smile, only sensed danger.

"I see. You are even more of a scumbag than I imagined, Demon King," Utaha Kasumigaoka said gracefully. "Making such a declaration right in front of me—your courage truly is great."

"The Senior should be used to it, shouldn't you?" Leon jested with a smile. "As a light novel author, you must have seen many harem declarations, right?"

"Don't bring things from novels into reality, you perverted Demon King," Utaha Kasumigaoka suppressed her smile and snorted coldly. "My Koisuru Metronome is the most traditional romance style."

"Which is why the second volume is struggling, Senior," Leon wasn't intimidated by Utaha Kasumigaoka; instead, he spoke bluntly. "You wrote the first volume so sweet and perfect; what else is there to write in the second volume?"

"The protagonist and the heroine basically confirmed their relationship in the first volume; it's sickeningly sweet. Even if you continue writing in the second volume, it will just be more saccharine."

"Even the sweetest things become tiresome when consumed too much, Senior," Leon patted Utaha Kasumigaoka's soft, slender shoulder, speaking earnestly.

"Perhaps this is the moment to boldly introduce new characters and enter the female rivalry arc."

Hearing this, Utaha Kasumigaoka immediately slapped Leon's hand away.

"That's why you boys only like these unrealistic fantasies." Utaha Kasumigaoka said viciously, "Do you really enjoy watching girls revolve around you, striving to please you and win your affection after going through a thousand hardships?"

"Wake up, such foolishness only happens in dreams. Girls are far more realistic than you imagine."

It was evident that Utaha Kasumigaoka was extremely dissatisfied with Leon's suggestion.

Leon, however, was unmoved by her dissatisfaction.

"It's precisely because such good things are hard to come by in reality that we like to step into the protagonist's shoes when reading novels, seeking a sense of pleasure and soothing our hearts, which have been pierced by cold reality, through fictional words," Leon admitted frankly. "You girls are realistic and don't look favorably upon us smelly boys, but you can't even take away our right to fantasize, can you?"

"I will absolutely never write something like that," Utaha Kasumigaoka looked at Leon with contempt. "Forgive me for not being able to satisfy your fantasy, you perverted Demon King. Please remember that humans are not animals. The situation of a lion king leading a pride of lionesses to strut around in public will absolutely never happen."

"Perhaps," Leon met Utaha Kasumigaoka's scorn with a sunny smile, saying, "Humans are indeed not animals, but wouldn't it be fine if they weren't human?"

"Just keep dreaming," Utaha Kasumigaoka looked defeated, turning her attention back to her book. "In any case, don't expect to see such a thing in my light novels."

Leon shrugged, noncommittally leaving Utaha Kasumigaoka and returning to his own seat.

Watching Leon walk away, Utaha Kasumigaoka's internal frustration was unknown to others.

The person who had been following her romance novel suddenly turned out not to be a pure-love enthusiast, but a scumbag who fantasized about having a harem. This made Utaha Kasumigaoka extremely displeased.

"Just you wait."

Utaha Kasumigaoka secretly made a resolution.

"I will definitely write the second volume to show you that pure love is the truth that should be pursued."

Three in the afternoon, Service Club activity room.

After finishing the day's classes, Leon came here and found Yukino Yukinoshita.

However, Yukino Yukinoshita was not sitting in her chair reading a book in quiet serenity as before, but was leaning back, her head tilted, fast asleep.

Her sleeping face was serene and elegant, much softer than her usual cold demeanor. If a strange man were here, seeing this, it would be perfectly normal for them to be completely mesmerized.

Looking at Yukino Yukinoshita like this, and recalling Utaha Kasumigaoka, whose smile alone could make the surrounding boys lose their minds, Leon couldn't help but sigh with emotion.

"The quality of beautiful girls in this world truly is high."

Even just in Sobu High, there was more than one girl who could stun people. It was simply a miracle of the Creator.

"Perhaps they truly are the Creator's works of art?"

Leon chuckled and muttered to himself.

He couldn't help it; this world had real Gods, and the existence revered as the Creator was real. Maybe on a whim, They created such beautiful works.

"Too bad I'm a Devil."

In terms of allegiance, he was an existence hostile to that one.

With this thought, Leon walked up to Yukino Yukinoshita and gently shook her body.

"Mmm..."

Yukino Yukinoshita seemed to have been in a light sleep; with Leon's shake, she immediately woke up.

"...You're here?"

Opening her sleepy eyes, Yukino Yukinoshita sat up, her voice sounding soft and weak.

"Are you that tired?"

Leon's voice was filled with amusement, as if watching a cat stretch.

"What do you think?" Yukino Yukinoshita glared at Leon, saying listlessly, "Didn't you make my body this way?"

"...Your words are certainly easy to misunderstand," Leon was speechless for a moment, then said irritably, "Just hold on for a little longer. Once you get used to the daytime, you won't feel sleepy this easily."

As he spoke, Leon pulled Yukino Yukinoshita, leading her into the magic circle.

The magic circle radiated light, transferring the two of them to the basement of the mansion, instantly leaving Sobu High.

"Cheer up. Starting today, you have a job to do."

Leon placed a stack of parchment into the stunned Yukino Yukinoshita's hands, leaving her frozen.

"These are... flyers?"

Yukino Yukinoshita regained her composure and recognized the true nature of the items in her hands.

The parchments, inscribed with magic circles, were precisely the Devil flyers Leon had mentioned earlier.

"Your task for today is to distribute these flyers."

Disregarding Yukino Yukinoshita's astonishment, Leon spoke these words.

"This is your first job after becoming a Devil."
