Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Repairs Completed

Lu Haibo's modification shop received a large shipment from logistics.

Lu Haibo called over the workers to help unload it, and only then did he see that the recipient was Li Younan.

Initially, he didn't plan to open it, but after calling Li Younan, Li Younan asked him to pick it up.

Only then did Lu Haibo excitedly call the workers to open it up, satisfying his curiosity.

When the multilayer wooden crate was broken open, everyone was left dumbfounded—the contents were a damaged engine, clearly the same model as Li Younan's Land Cruiser.

Upon receiving the engine, everyone's first reaction was whether it was delivered mistakenly, or if it had experienced some external impact during transportation, damaging the engine. But upon examining the damaged parts and shapes on the engine, it was clear that the damage could not have been caused during transit.

Lu Haibo promptly called Li Younan: "Brother, is this engine you bought? Why is it broken?"

Li Younan seemed unsurprised on the other end: "Yes, it's broken. I went through a lot to find it. I'm heading over now; time is tight, and I'm ready to start work as soon as I arrive."

Lu Haibo was taken aback: "Start work?"

Li Younan didn't elaborate, saying only that they'd talk more upon his arrival.

Lu Haibo placed the phone down, suddenly realizing something. He looked again at the engine, a hint of disbelief in his eyes.

Could it be that the guy plans to dismantle parts from this engine to fix the original one?

The traffic management department has stringent regulations for automobile engines; each car's engine must have a strict serial number that corresponds with the chassis.

To change an engine, strict procedures must be followed, which is why engine replacement is costly, as counterfeit ones can't be roadworthy.

However, repairing the original engine using parts from an old engine doesn't involve changing the serial number, eliminating this concern and saving a lot of money.

However, this is only theoretical.

Only those involved in repairs know how intimidating Li Younan's plan is. Lu Haibo silently looked at the newly arrived damaged engine, then at the original car's engine.

Master Yang came over to ask: "Boss, what's your friend doing with such a broken engine? He's not thinking about dismantling parts from this engine to replace them into that one, is he?"

Master Yang initially teased, but upon seeing Lu Haibo's serious expression without denial, his smile froze. He blinked: "Is that really his plan?"

...

"Impossible, absolutely impossible!"

At this moment, Master Yang was discussing the engine repair with a few workers.

Repairing engines also revolves around difficulty; engines aren't unrepairable, but it depends on the extent of damage.

Some minor faults can be handled, but the damage to Li Younan's Land Cruiser involves the crankshaft and connecting rod!

This is the engine's core, requiring removal of many surrounding parts and demanding breathtaking assembly precision; a tiny mistake can lead to irreversible risks.

Honestly, Lu Haibo isn't a professional repairman; he knows engine repair is tough but not its exact difficulty.

Master Yang talked to other workers for a long time, and finally, Lu Haibo couldn't help but ask: "Is it really that exaggerated?"

Master Yang scoffed: "Is it that exaggerated? Boss, let me put it this way: if engine repairs are rated from 1 to 10, Li Younan's repair would easily be a 9.5 in difficulty."

"Firstly, the operation is complex, requiring dismantling about 80% of the parts; it's intricate and has minimal room for error."

"Then, it requires a lot of specialist tools, like micrometers, torque wrenches, and precise measurement tools. Back when I learned auto repair, even my teacher couldn't fix this level of engine damage."

"Besides, the repair risks are high; a minor mistake could lead to scrapping the entire engine."

Just as they were engrossed in conversation, Li Younan arrived.

Everyone immediately turned their gaze toward him and chose to remain silent.

After all, last time, Li Younan already proved them wrong.

Once Li Younan officially began repairing the engine, the workers gathered around to watch.

Though no one believed Li Younan could actually repair the engine, curiosity was high!

As they watched, they refrained from comment.

But as Li Younan started dismantling the engine, the workers' gazes changed gradually.

Repairing this engine truly wasn't simple, even for Li Younan, who felt challenged. Despite his repair skills being only a level 1, which is already impressive in a regular body shop but not at a master level.

Luckily, it was indeed repairable.

Upon opening the engine, the cylinder bore and piston were also somewhat damaged, necessitating the purchase of official parts, costing an additional 10,000 yuan. Once Li Younan got into the groove, he repeatedly calibrated and tested, inching progress forward, spending a full week to assemble the engine successfully.

During the week, whenever the workers had free time, they came to watch—their smartphones ready for filming.

The once sharply critical Master Yang now stayed silent, watching most intently of all the workers.

As he tightened the final screw to the standard torque, everyone in the modification shop erupted into cheers.

Over the past few days, they witnessed Li Younan restoring a damaged engine to its former glory; visually, it appeared flawless.

Next came the most thrilling moment—installing the engine into the car, with several eager workers pitching in, more excited than if it was their own engine being repaired.

Soon, they reinstalled the engine into the car and closed the hood.

Li Younan settled into the driver's seat and looked out the window at the workers eagerly watching him.

Lu Haibo stood excitedly in front of the car, gently patting the hood, whispering: "Buddy, don't let us down."

Inside the car, Li Younan took a deep breath, pressed the brake, and lightly tapped the start button.

The next moment, the large natural aspirated engine awoke like a beast long asleep, stretching its body, inhaling sharply at first, then revitalizing, breath turning long, filled with life. The engine's sound wasn't loud but robust and stable.

With this, everyone erupted into cheering excitement.

Lu Haibo leaned to the car window: "Good buddy, go for a spin!"

Li Younan was equally enthusiastic, gripping the steering wheel, gaze resolutely forward, turning to ask Lu Haibo.

"Which gear is for forward?"

Lu Haibo's smile immediately froze, his mouth twinging: "Huh?"

Li Younan scratched his head lightly, saying: "Back in college, I got a driver's license for manual transmission, haven't touched a car since."
