Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Silent Hunt

The night was thick with tension as Zhang Wei and Chai Lang moved through the mountain pass, the cold biting at their skin. The map Karim Shah had given them was precise—coordinates, timings, and a detailed profile of the target. The Taliban official was expected to arrive at a remote outpost near the border, guarded by a small but well-trained unit.

Zhang Wei's mind was a storm of calculations. The "Shadow Perception" system had marked the location with a red dot, and the surrounding area was littered with yellow dots—watchers, informants, or enemies. He needed to move quickly, but more importantly, he needed to be invisible.

"Ghost," Chai Lang whispered, his voice barely audible over the wind. "We're being watched. More than one set of eyes."

Zhang Wei nodded, his gaze fixed on the terrain ahead. "I know. The system says there are three groups—two are close, one is farther back. They're not moving yet, but they will. We need to be ready."

He pulled a small device from his pocket—a compact, high-tech tool provided by the "Shadow Legacy" system. It was a signal jammer, designed to disrupt surveillance equipment and communication devices. He activated it, and immediately, the red dots on his vision flickered and disappeared.

"Good," he muttered. "They won't be able to track us for a while."

They pressed on, navigating the rugged terrain with practiced ease. Zhang Wei's mind was sharp, calculating every step, every possible threat. The system had given him more than just a map—it had given him a strategy.

As they approached the outpost, Zhang Wei activated the "Stealth" ability once more, blending into the shadows. Chai Lang followed, his movements silent and precise. They reached the perimeter undetected.

The outpost was a modest structure, surrounded by a perimeter fence and a small guard post. The official was inside, flanked by two bodyguards. Zhang Wei studied the layout, noting the weak points—open windows, blind spots in the lighting, and the patrol routes of the guards.

"This is a standard setup," he murmured. "They think they're safe, but they're not. The system says the guards are overconfident. That's our advantage."

Chai Lang nodded. "Then let's make sure they never see us coming."

They moved in, silent as ghosts. The guards never saw them coming. The official was taken down with precision, and the bodyguards were neutralized before they could react. Zhang Wei retrieved the ledger Karim Shah had mentioned, its pages filled with secrets that could topple empires.

As they prepared to leave, the system flared again—this time, with a new warning.

[Warning: Enemy Forces Detected – 3km East. Movement Detected. Threat Level: High.]

Zhang Wei cursed under his breath. "We've got company."

Chai Lang was already moving, scanning the area. "They're coming fast. We need to get out of here—now."

They ran, the cold wind biting at their skin as they fled into the night. The shadows were watching, but for now, they were safe. The mission was complete, but the game was far from over.

The "Shadow Legacy" system had given Zhang Wei more than just power—it had given him a purpose. And as the night deepened, he knew one thing for sure: the shadows would never let him go.
