Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Sixty-Seven Push-Ups

In an instant.

A breakthrough feeling, akin to water flowing smoothly, filled his heart.

Wang Ye felt as if he had intuitively grasped many running techniques without a teacher. His control over running posture, steps, and acceleration became more precise.

Although he hadn't reached an athlete's level, it was enough to outshine most running enthusiasts.

Wang Ye sat down to rest for a moment, went to the store to buy mineral water, replenished his hydration, and then returned home.

At home, he opened a short video app and followed Ling Xiaolong's Tai Chi instructional video for half an hour.

After two days of learning, he felt he had memorized four to five-tenths of Tai Chi's key movements, and he anticipated he would fully grasp it by the end of the month.

After practicing, Wang Ye took a quick shower and dragged his tired body to bed.

...

Before sleeping, Wang Ye tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep, so he opened the shopping app, watched several equipment review videos, and checked each product's sales and ratings.

After thorough consideration and deliberation, he spent heavily to purchase a professional running watch, a full set of long-distance running gear, and a scale to track his daily weight changes.

The total cost was around five thousand.

The delivery speed of the quick express was very fast.

He placed the order before sleeping, and it arrived the next morning.

Wang Ye got up early, and opened the delivery boxes one by one at his doorstep.

After putting on the new equipment, he felt significantly stronger.

Especially the soft, bouncy running shoes, which were far more comfortable than his usual fabric shoes. The arch structure was better suited for running than the stiff, thick-soled shoes, making running more effortless.

He jumped around a few times and had an immediate urge to go outside and test his speed.

"No wonder they say good equipment can greatly enhance athletic ability; this feels like having divine assistance."

Wang Ye did several jumping jacks in succession, the rubber soles squeaking against the ground.

After bouncing around for a while, he suddenly realized he seemed to be experiencing hypoglycemia symptoms.

In front of him appeared patches of black mist and flying gnats, and his fingers began to stiffen and weaken.

He immediately frowned, realizing that after his morning evolution, he hadn't started replenishing his nutrition, and all the nutrients in his body were severely lacking.

If it weren't for his improved physique and increased tolerance to negative states, he would have felt something was wrong with his body as soon as he got up.

Taking advantage of his limbs not being too stiff yet, Wang Ye immediately fetched a pre-prepared glucose oral solution from the refrigerator door shelf.

He twisted open the cap and drank it all in one gulp. The sickly sweet flavor spread deep in his throat.

After a long half-minute, his hypoglycemia symptoms eased slightly.

Because glucose can replenish glycogen in the body faster than candies, bread, cookies, and quick-carb foods like rice.

Thus, when Wang Ye pondered how to quickly replenish severely depleted energy after evolution, the first thing that came to mind was glucose oral solution.

After the symptoms subsided almost completely,

Wang Ye threw the empty solution bottle into the trash bin and dropped himself onto the sofa, calling up his status panel.

[Body: 1.5]

[Divine: 0.7]

[Evolution Level: 13.0]

[Still evolving, evolution level increases by one point daily.]

Physique increased by 0.2.

The same increase as yesterday.

Although the numerical increase seems insignificant,

Wang Ye could distinctly feel that his physical state was undergoing huge changes each day.

Primarily manifesting in the growth of strength, endurance, and even the ability of the five senses.

Originally having 500-degree myopia,

After the first evolution, his vision reached normal levels.

During the second and third-day evolutions, his eyesight continued to improve slightly.

Now, his vision had evolved to the point where he could look down from a fifteen-story building and clearly see the features and clothing of every person walking in the street.

His sense of smell, hearing, touch, and other sensory abilities were also subtly improving.

But these didn't bring a noticeable difference like the enhancement of his vision.

Moreover,

Even though he had been running for the past two days, focusing on cardio without muscle training, his muscle strength mysteriously grew autonomously.

The muscle lines became harder and more chiseled each day.

His arms flexed to become as hard as rock.

Lifting his shirt, his abs appeared quite defined, and the veins in his lower abdomen became visible.

His cheeks thinned significantly, his jawline becoming sharp and straight, and his eye sockets deepened, with a straight nose; except for some skin issues, his facial features now considered handsome, completely changed from three days ago.

However, a barely discernible gray-white layer of keratin began to form on parts of his hands and shoulders.

Touching it revealed a tough texture, somewhat inferior to cowhide.

"Perhaps a byproduct of evolution."

Wang Ye shook his head, ceasing to ponder over it.

He dropped to the floor and started doing push-ups.

His elbows and torso at approximately a forty-five degrees angle, shoulder blades slightly pressed down, elbows kept straight when pushing up, elbows over back when lowering, with a consistent breathing rhythm—a very standard push-up posture.

Wang Ye had learned standard calisthenics posture before.

But due to yearly weight gain,

In recent years, he couldn't do more than ten push-ups.

Doing more than five would leave him panting, arms swollen.

But now, Wang Ye, almost absent-minded, naturally completed ten standard push-ups, breathing still steady, arms stable like robotic arms, barely feeling any fatigue.

With rhythmic breathing, his push-ups got faster, chest and arm strength seemingly endless, making him more excited as he easily controlled his body.

"Hoo, hoo..."

His body moved rapidly, the muscle activity causing an intense heat buildup, necessitating breathing for metabolism, the sound from mouth and nose resembling crisp clapping.

Five…

Ten…

Twenty…

Fifty…

Finally stopped at sixty-seven.

Wang Ye stood up, massaging his sore and swollen chest and shoulder muscles.

His eyes filled with uncontrollable joy.

Bear in mind, three days ago, he was a chubby office worker who panted after five push-ups.

In just three days, he could do sixty-seven push-ups in one go!

And this,

Was merely the result of a three-point evolution level increase!

"If I can continue evolving like this, even if I slack off in training, my body will eventually reach or surpass an athlete's level!" Wang Ye grinned.

He finally realized this golden opportunity, possibly capable of changing his fate!

Everything he once valued, be it career or money, bosses or friends, seemed insignificant compared to life's evolution.
