Chapter 107 - Sunagakure — Torture by Illusion

Land of Wind. Devil's Desert.

In the endless yellow storm, a lone figure in a white robe emerged—walking calmly as if the desert itself had decided to make way.

The howling wind and sand rushed toward him… and then, the moment they reached his body, they simply died down. The gale turned into a gentle breeze. Even though he'd clearly traveled a long distance, not a single grain of sand clung to him.

The traveler was Uchiha Feiyu.

Before coming to the Land of Wind, he had already wrung dry every last one of the thousand-plus souls in his possession.

Dozens of years of "possession-style" cultivation inside the illusion space had pushed his chakra shape and nature transformations into a realm that bordered on absurd. As a side effect, every jutsu he knew had become sharper, heavier—more lethal.

The reason he could stroll through a sandstorm without being affected wasn't some physical trick.

It was, in essence, the same principle as Suna's sand manipulation.

He barely needed to circulate chakra. The cost was negligible. Yet his chakra control and transformations were now refined enough to influence wind and sand in the environment itself—subtle, precise, and overwhelmingly effective.

"Finally…" Feiyu exhaled, looking ahead. "The Land of Wind is ridiculously huge."

In the distance, a canyon and an oasis shimmered in the heat haze. Beyond them lay a village the color of dust and clay.

Sunagakure.

The "nest" Feiyu had chosen to take over.

Inside the Kazekage building, the current Fifth Kazekage—Pakura—was reading the latest intelligence sent from Konoha.

Konoha in turmoil.

Orochimaru and the "Konoha Ghost" have defected.

The Third Hokage gravely injured and bedridden.

Pakura's lips curled into a smile before she could stop it.

"Ha… so even Konoha has a day like this," she murmured, almost delighted. "They produce geniuses, but they never manage to keep them. The White Fang back then… and now the Konoha Ghost and Orochimaru…"

Then a cold voice cut into the room like a blade.

"What are you so happy about?"

The tone wasn't loud, but in Pakura's ears it rang like thunder.

"Konoha weakening is one thing," the voice continued lazily. "But you lot in Suna didn't get stronger."

"When the boss weakens, the one who benefits is the second strongest."

"Not the dead-last runt."

Pakura's expression changed violently. She whipped her head around—

And saw Uchiha Feiyu pushing open the door as if he owned the place.

"The Konoha Ghost?!" Her pupils tightened. "How are you here?! Where are the other Suna shinobi?!"

She didn't wait for an answer.

Her hand snapped up and she hurled a massive Scorch Release fireball.

BOOM—!

The Kazekage office detonated.

Flames roared. The world turned into a furnace.

And through that burning light, Feiyu walked forward at an easy pace—unhurried, unbothered—like the fire was nothing but stage lighting.

Pakura's scalp went cold.

"…How—?! This is… genjutsu?! Release!"

She forcefully disrupted her chakra flow.

Her vision shattered.

And when she came back to herself, she was sitting in the Kazekage office again—intact, undamaged.

No explosion.

No flames.

No Feiyu.

"…What?" Her breath hitched. "Where did he go?!"

Her eyes darted around. A second later, a worse thought struck her.

She threw a signal.

No response.

Pakura's throat tightened.

"The guard squad… gone?"

"…Did they get caught in genjutsu and taken out without a sound?"

A soft chuckle drifted into her ear.

"Heh. How can you be sure the guards are the ones in genjutsu…"

"…and not you?"

Pakura's face turned ugly.

She clenched her teeth and, without hesitation, wrecked her own chakra flow again—hard enough that her organs screamed. Blood spilled from the corner of her mouth.

The world wavered.

Then—

The office suddenly became chaos.

The door had been blasted open. The air stank of blood. Several masked shinobi lay on the floor in pools of red.

Outside, black smoke billowed into the sky. Metal clashed. Shinobi screamed.

"…What is going on—"

A shinobi stumbled through the destroyed doorway, blood pouring from his mouth. The tip of a blade jutted out of his chest.

"Kazekage-sama… run…"

He collapsed before he could finish.

"Sunagakure is under attack!!!"

Pakura's expression warped with shock and fury. She bolted out the door—

And what she saw made her eyes go bloodshot.

The entire village had become a slaughterhouse.

Suna shinobi were screaming at each other—killing each other—kunai, shuriken, Wind Release, puppets… everything thrown at former comrades with absolute conviction.

"Damn Konoha dogs—die!"

"Iwa scum—let's die together!"

"Hahaha! If you want to wipe out Suna, you'll have to lose a few teeth first!"

Pakura's heart sank.

Genjutsu.

All of them.

But this… this scale…

A village-wide illusion with this kind of intensity was beyond horrifying. It was impossible. It made her doubt reality itself.

Her thoughts turned suspicious.

Wait… did I really break free just now?

The moment doubt took root, she forced herself to disrupt her chakra again—despite the damage.

Blood burst from her mouth. Her body went limp with weakness.

And in that instant, the world trembled and vanished—

Pakura blinked.

She was back in the Kazekage office.

Feiyu stood in front of her, smiling.

"You…" Her fist shook. "What… what do you want?!"

Rage surged in her chest. She wanted to cast a jutsu immediately.

But for some reason, staring at that relaxed smile made her spine go cold.

She… couldn't move.

Feiyu clicked his tongue.

"Tch. You're obedient already? That was fast."

"I kind of liked the look you had just now—so arrogant, so stubborn."

He snapped his fingers.

Pakura flinched.

And then she realized her "injuries" were gone. The organ pain, the weakness—everything erased as if it had never happened.

Feiyu's figure dissolved into wisps of smoke.

A laugh sounded behind her.

"Since you're behaving, we can finally talk properly."

Pakura's blood ran ice-cold.

Genjutsu.

All of it—every "release," every injury, even the feedback from disrupting chakra—was part of the illusion.

She hadn't done anything at all.

Swallowing hard, Pakura slowly turned—

And saw Feiyu casually flipping through Sunagakure's secret transmission scrolls like he was browsing a bookstore.

Suna's confidential archives were protected by seals and codes.

Useless.

Feiyu possessed the Fourth Kazekage Rasa's soul. These kinds of barriers were meaningless in front of him.

The problem was… the content wasn't very impressive.

Feiyu's eyes narrowed as he skimmed.

No suicide-style "life for life" technique.

Not yet developed.

And with Chiyo already dead—and her soul already in his hand—there was a good chance that technique would never exist at all in this timeline.

Puppet arts?

Useless to him.

Sand control?

He'd already mastered the principles long ago.

Wind Release?

There were plenty of techniques, but even the ones he didn't know overlapped heavily with what he already had.

In the end, the only thing that truly caught his interest…

Was Pakura's Scorch Release bloodline synthesis method.

In theory, elemental kekkei genkai could be learned through training rather than inheritance—if you pushed chakra nature and shape transformation far enough, discovered the correct fusion ratios, and had a slice of luck.

That was why shinobi who could "self-create" a kekkei genkai were almost always jōnin at minimum.

Not because the kekkei genkai itself was guaranteed to be broken—

But because the foundation required to fuse chakra like that was already jōnin-class.

With Feiyu's base, synthesizing a kekkei genkai wasn't the hard part.

The hard part was the ratio.

Now that he had the recipe for Scorch Release in front of him… he couldn't help but be interested.

Pakura finally snapped.

"You bastard!" she shouted, voice raw. "Put down Suna's secret scroll!"

She surged to her feet—

And her vision went black.

The world vanished.

All five senses cut off at once.
