Chapter 10 - Before You Touch the Ground

The night was quiet. Not the silence of uncertainty… but the softness of peace that only arrives when hearts no longer guard themselves.

They lay close, the space between their breaths barely existing. Her fingers traced absent patterns against his chest as if memorising the rhythm of his heartbeat — as if confirming that this, too, was real.

And then, almost shyly, she asked the question that had once been a test… but now felt more like a whisper of wonder.

"If I fall… will you still catch me?"

He didn't smile in amusement. He didn't sigh in reassurance.

Instead, he leaned forward until his forehead rested gently against hers — a familiar touch filled with more meaning than words could hold.

His voice was soft. Certain. Unshakeable.

"You won't even feel the ground."

Because this time, she wasn't falling to see if he would catch her.

She was falling because she knew he would.

There was no fear left in the descent. No hesitation in the surrender.

Only trust. Only love.

And as their foreheads remained pressed together, breath mingling in the quiet glow of everything they had built, the final truth settled between them — gentle, complete, eternal.

She was not falling alone.

She never would again.
