Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Funeral

Death is an unavoidable fate. Not only for humans, but all creatures, even the world itself, will meet its end. Even objects have a lifespan. Nothing is eternal. There's no such thing as old or young. Even unborn babies can be snatched by death.

Where do the souls of the dead go? No one knows. When someone dies, someone is also born. Are the souls of the dead reborn? No one knows.

...

Far west of the city of Lumiville, there's a vast hilly field that serves as a cemetery called Silent Hill.

A man sat on a long bench under a shady tree, gazing straight out at the cemetery. His chin rested on the back of his hand, which was supported by a long shovel. His black hair, blowing in the wind, looked incredibly soft. His eyes were sharp yet soft, with their jade-green pupils. The man wore a long-sleeved black shirt, black trousers, and white sneakers.

From his seat, he was watching someone's funeral procession. He observed the crowd from a distance. Six people were supporting a wooden coffin. Three people on the right side and three people on the left side. Some people were carrying black umbrellas. And some others were carrying wreaths. And some people were crying for him. Everyone there was wearing black, a sign that they were mourning.

Then, the wooden coffin began to be placed into the ground that had been dug according to the size of the coffin. As the coffin began to be inserted, the people there did not take their eyes off the coffin until it reached the bottom of the ground. Then, three diggers began to cover the dug soil. Until finally the wooden coffin was no longer visible. A tombstone was placed there. The people carrying wreaths placed the flowers on the grave. So that the ground was covered with many flowers. They bowed and closed their eyes towards the tombstone, and then they began to leave the grave.

Only four people were left there who were still sitting and crying. If you look at them, they must be his family. Then of the four people, one of them started to stand and walk towards the man sitting under the tree.

The teenage boy walked while wiping away his tears. Then he arrived under the shady tree. He bowed and greeted the seated man.

"Thank you for providing the burial plot for my father."

The boy held back a tremble in his voice.

The man stood and patted the boy's head.

The boy's eyes welled with tears.

"Because you are his son, even at a young age, I know you have the courage of your father."

Although he spoke without expression, the boy could feel the concern in the man's voice and gaze.

"Thank you, Mr. Zain."

The boy, still crying, walked toward his family. They left the cemetery.

Then, the man walked toward the new grave. He stared at the headstone bearing the name of the person buried there. Then he began to speak.

"You left your family early."

"To protect others."

"You're pathetic."

The man took a white lily from his shirt pocket and placed it on top of the flowers covering the grave.

"From me to you."

"You've worked hard, sleep in peace."

"Major Hyder Zevanor."

The man turned to leave, carrying his long shovel.

...

30 years ago the world was destroyed. The sky that was once clear suddenly turned red like blood. Thunderous rumbling sounds and lightning struck. Strange and mysterious gates began to appear in various corners of the city. The gates contained terrible monsters that came from an unknown dimension. The monsters that came out of the gates began to kill humans. And destroy everything in front of them.

Everyone was terrified and tried to save themselves. Military forces were deployed to save the citizens and eradicate the monsters. All kinds of ammunition, bombs and other equipment had been deployed. But human stamina, mental, and physical abilities could not be compared to the monsters that appeared.

They would remain exhausted because they could not rest and the doctors who treated the seriously injured also had their limits. Supplies of food, water, and medicine were almost running out. Was this really the end of the world? They were all in pain and tired. And began to close their eyes.

Then a miracle happened.

[Congratulations! You have risen to become a knight who protects the world].

A hologram screen appeared before them. Like a notification from a cell phone. They began to feel power flowing through their bodies. Their physical abilities increased. The soldiers who received the notification began to grip their weapons again. Although some of them were still injured, at least they could keep up with the monsters. With a strong desire to protect, they began to rise.

The strong desire to save those who were seriously injured made the doctors awaken magical powers or what is better known as 'Healing Power'. With this power, the doctors could more efficiently treat patients even though the equipment and medicine were inadequate.

And even though the power drained their energy. The soldiers shouted their encouragement. Even though their weapons had been destroyed, their blows could destroy monsters. Not only the soldiers, but also the civilians who had awakened their courage and received this power also joined the fight.

With this mysterious power, humanity survived the destruction. Two full years of destruction and humanity still survived. The dimensional gates began to disappear. Many victims fell. Even their bodies had been destroyed. Because they could not hold a funeral procession, the remaining bodies were gathered in one place and burned with a fire filled with grief.

Within five years the city began to rise again. Although it turned out that peace was not long. Dimensional gates began to reappear one by one. But this time, humanity was better prepared to prevent further casualties.
