One by one, the students inside the classroom walked down toward the front podium before being led away to an undisclosed location by the waiting guards.
The duration of each session was substantial, as each interrogation dragged on for roughly an hour, if not a bit less.
The thick, lingering silence left behind in the room was suffocating.
Unable to handle the mounting gridlock, I raised my right hand.
The same female Inquisitor noticed and immediately walked back down the aisle to my desk.
"May I wait out in the hallway?" I asked, keeping my voice low.
"The air is completely suffocating in here because of the tension."
The Inquisitor studied my face for a moment before offering a gentle nod.
"Sure, you may. But please be attentive to that number chip. If it goes off and you fail to show up, we will have no choice but to suspect you of intentional insubordination and press formal charges against you."
"Neither of us wants that to happen, especially with a relative of Kaye."
