Chapter 10 - The Gambler's Despair: Do You Serve the Customer or the Coin?

Seeing the crowd calm down, Ningguang let out a sigh of relief. She addressed the people one last time. "Very well. I must take my leave. The Millelith will remain to maintain order. If you wish to buy a jar, please form a queue and do not cause a scene."

With that, she turned and walked away, her steps brisk.

She needed to return to the Jade Chamber immediately to implement the financial knowledge she had gleaned from the book.

With Ningguang gone, only two Millelith guards remained at the entrance.

The crowd surged forward, forming an excited line that snaked into the small shop.

Most were ordinary citizens, but there were also wealthy merchants among them. For the rich, one hundred thousand Mora for a jar was a gamble they could easily afford.

If they could pull something like Ningguang's items—whether to give to a mother or a wife—it would be worth every coin.

And if they pulled a Vision? Even better.

The excitement was palpable. They were itching to crack some jars.

"Oho."

Inside the shop, Felix stood with his hands behind his back, watching the queue form. A smile spread across his face.

With this many people, he should be able to clear out his stock today.

"Boss! Boss! I want two jars!"

The first man to rush in was practically vibrating with excitement as he slapped his money onto the counter. "I'm opening two!"

"Take your pick."

Felix smiled as he accepted the Mora, gesturing to the shelves.

"Those two."

The man pointed quickly.

Felix retrieved the jars and placed them on the counter. The man smashed them open without hesitation.

Crash.

Two items appeared in the debris.

One was a long, black metal object.

The other was a red, cylindrical can.

Staring at the unfamiliar items, the customer looked up nervously. "Boss, I don't recognize these. Can you tell me what they are?"

"The first is a metal weapon called a Kunai. You can throw it like a dart or use it to cut things. For an ordinary person, it's a handy self-defense weapon."

Felix explained calmly. "The second is a beverage. A very tasty soda. It's delicious, but it has no special effects. It's just a drink."

Internally, Felix sighed. This guy's luck is terrible.

The Kunai was somewhat useful. The Coca-Cola? Purely a drink.

Sure, it was the "Happy Water," but it was just 330ml. Gone in a few gulps.

"That's it??"

The man looked at the items in disbelief. "I spent twenty thousand... no, two hundred thousand Mora, and I got these?"

They were useless to him.

He didn't like soda, and he could buy drinks anywhere.

As for the weapon? He could go to Old Zhang at the blacksmith and get whatever he wanted for a fraction of the price.

Two hundred thousand Mora. Gone. Just like that.

He felt like vomiting blood.

Why did others get Visions? Why did Ningguang get an Eternal Youth Pill? And he got... trash?

He gritted his teeth and glared at Felix. "Are you discriminating based on the customer? When Lady Ningguang comes, you sell the good stuff. When we come, you sell us garbage?"

He seriously suspected Felix was rigging the jars.

"This shop operates on honesty. I never use underhanded tricks."

Felix replied smoothly. "The jars were on the shelf. You picked them yourself. And these items aren't useless; you just had bad luck."

"Someone pulled a Vision from a single jar earlier. That was extreme luck. Even Lady Ningguang didn't get a top-tier item in every jar."

"You still have eight chances left this week. For eight hundred thousand Mora, you can open eight more. You might pull a treasure. Why not try again?"

As he spoke, Felix sounded like a devil whispering in the man's ear, tempting him to continue the trade.

"I... I'll take two more."

The man wavered, then succumbed. He gritted his teeth and paid again.

He picked two more jars and smashed them open.

This time, two different items fell out.

A glowing red stone.

And a paper charm.

[Red Gemstone]: A gemstone from an unknown world.

[Fireball Jutsu Seal]: A charm containing a single Ninjutsu spell. Tearing it releases a massive fireball.

Felix instantly recognized the items.

"Still not a pill..."

The customer's face fell. It wasn't a Vision, and it wasn't an Eternal Youth Pill.

He wanted what Ningguang had.

But at least it wasn't a soda or a knife.

He looked at Felix with desperate hope. "Boss, what are these?"

"The first is a Red Gemstone. It has no magical properties, but you can sell it. It should be worth a few hundred thousand Mora. You might even make a profit."

Felix glanced at it. "The second is an offensive charm. It seals a fire elemental attack. Tear the paper, and it will launch a fireball forward. If you travel in the wild, it's a perfect life-saving talisman. Overall, these two are much more valuable than your first pull."

"Phew."

The man let out a long breath.

Valuable was good.

The first two were trash.

This time, the gemstone could be sold to recoup his losses. Maybe he'd even break even.

And the charm? For a commoner without a Vision, a sealed elemental attack was a powerful trump card.

Overall, he felt he had earned something this time.

"Your luck is turning. You've opened four jars. Want to try a few more?"

Felix smiled. "Who knows? The next one might be the big prize."

"I..."

The man hesitated, his face a mask of conflict.

He had spent four hundred thousand Mora.

But the urge to pull was still there.

After all, the last two items weren't bad...
