Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Darkness and cold were the melody of this world; the daytime in Helheim was very short, and even during the day, the sky remained a murky gray.

Hahahaha Hades arrived in Helheim, located in the outer regions, from the central world, and he couldn't help but shiver. Although he couldn't feel the cold in the game, he was still stimulated by the eternally gloomy atmosphere here.

Ever since YGGDRASIL updated its major expansion, "Valkyrie's Downfall," Hahahaha Hades had been in a semi-retired state. Although he would still update his equipment and other items, he only did so out of habit from his past spending, eventually leading to his complete retirement.

After a year, returning to the world of YGGDRASIL, he felt a sense of unfamiliarity, but this was only natural, as he hadn't logged in for a long time.

This unfamiliarity also led to an increase in the time it took him to reach Nazarick. He arrived at Crystal Plain, a border area of Helheim, which was a necessary path to reach Grenbera Swamp, where The Great Tomb of Nazarick was located.

Crystal Plain was not named because it was full of crystals; rather, it was because the frozen plant leaves on this overgrown plain were as sharp as crystal blades. Every step taken would result in damage, and even protective gear of "Holy Relic" grade would be cut, leading to a continuous HP drain debuff.

However, Hahahaha Hades was not worried, because his equipment was "Divine Grade," so he naturally wasn't afraid of the negative status effects caused by the environment. Although in addition to this, Crystal Plain also had ore-type monsters with high defense values, this did not hinder Hahahaha Hades's progress at all.

Because he was not moving on foot, but using flight ability to rush to Nazarick. Although the sky would also have negative status effects targeting humanoids, with the blessing of his top-tier equipment, those minor negative status effects were nothing.

Hahahaha Hades accelerated, heading towards The Great Tomb of Nazarick located in Grenbera Swamp, and at the same time began to check his backpack.

Most of his main items were placed in his backpack. The unlimited backpack's capacity was only 500KG, which was not enough for him, so he had many such backpacks. As long as there were materials, they could be crafted, which was very practical for life-skill players. Materials that usually needed to be smelted and crafted could be categorized and placed in the backpack, without the hassle of running to the warehouse.

And Hahahaha Hades carried so many unlimited backpacks for another reason.

This reason brings us to one of the world items Hahahaha Hades possessed—"Seed of the World Tree."

Compared to other world items, or even the "Twenty" with its heaven-defying abilities, the "Seed of the World Tree"'s ability was not outstanding. Its ability's upper limit depended on the user's strength.

Because the effect of the "Seed of the World Tree" was that it allowed players to freely change their race. In YGGDRASIL, changing race was not a very difficult thing to do; players could successfully change their race after acquiring some items and completing some special quests.

However, in YGGDRASIL, there was one exception: for Undead players, if they wanted to change their race, they could only rely on the "Seed of the World Tree."

If the only purpose of this item was to facilitate Undead players changing races, then as one of only two hundred world items, it would be too cheap.

Perhaps the operators also realized this problem, so in addition to changing races, the "Seed of the World Tree" could also store all data of the races transformed by its possessor.

Specifically, if your current character reached level one hundred and you wanted to switch to another race, then this item would store all the data of your current race character, and then you could play as another race with peace of mind.

But what if a high-level player tries to PK you while you are leveling up with the transformed race?

The answer is to use the "Seed of the World Tree" to switch to the stored level one hundred race character, letting the opponent know they messed with the wrong person.

The "Seed of the World Tree" can store character data for two different races, meaning that besides his own character race, Hahahaha Hades also had two backup level one hundred characters that he could switch to.

Of course, the two stored races and the race currently in use must be three different races. The storage limit of the "Seed of the World Tree" is only two slots. If you want to store a fourth race besides the one currently in use and the two already stored, then you must choose one from the stored race data to delete.

Therefore, naturally, this would lead to an additional demand for backpacks. Different characters and different professions require different items and equipment. Hahahaha Hades had three races and three types of professional characters, so a 500KG backpack capacity was naturally not enough.

Although, logically speaking, just expanding with one more 500KG backpack would be enough, one of the two races Hahahaha Hades stored was a complete production profession, so triple the backpack capacity was necessary.

However, that being said, Hahahaha Hades could not carry all the materials for production professions on him, because those materials were simply too numerous, and it was unrealistic to carry them all. In his guild's personal warehouse, he not only had countless materials but also various semi-finished item equipment he used while improving his production profession proficiency.

While Hahahaha Hades familiarized himself with the long-unseen YGGDRASIL operation panel and replied to the Message of the six guild members one by one, he was also nearing his destination for this trip.

"Purple Poison Swamp, huh..."

Hahahaha Hades looked at the location hint provided by the map on the YGGDRASIL interface.

"Hmm... Grenbera Swamp is deep within the Purple Poison Swamp. Almost there," Hahahaha Hades muttered to himself.

Although one of his stored races had the Magic Caster profession and could use teleportation magic, the YGGDRASIL map area was very large, and many places were restricted teleportation zones, which happened to be necessary paths. Therefore, traveling in YGGDRASIL was quite time-consuming.

Watching the time until YGGDRASIL's server shutdown getting closer and closer, Hahahaha Hades understood that there was no way he could invade Nazarick and use the second world item he had obtained with such difficulty after arriving.

And the remaining time was not enough for him to do anything else, but at least taking a look at Nazarick was a way to account for his past goal.

As he grew older, Hahahaha Hades gradually lost his former passion for games, perhaps because his life was more fulfilling than the virtual world, but no matter what, YGGDRASIL was a memory from his middle school phase of life.

For example, his in-game name "Hahahaha Hades." Hades is the god of the underworld who governs life and death in Greek mythology, and he, being in his middle school phase at the time, thought this name was very unique.

However, because he entered the game a few days late, this name had already been registered by others. As a result, when he playfully typed out Hahahaha Hades, it was successfully registered at once.

Looking at the time on the YGGDRASIL interface, Hahahaha Hades sighed. At this moment, Nazarick Great Tomb was beneath his feet, but time had already run out.

23:59:50

Gazing at Nazarick's surface structures, Hahahaha Hades recalled that battle from long ago. Time had changed, and that matter was just an insignificant experience in his life, but that period was his youth.

....Goodbye to the past.....
