Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

After flying for some time, Hades lowered his altitude. After aimlessly searching for interactive objects, he finally discovered a lit location. Although the light was dim, in his understanding, light in the darkness was something only intelligent beings could produce.

So he began to descend slowly. As he descended, the cold wind whistled through his body. Although it wasn't enough to make him want to find a warm place to stay, could such a realistic sensation truly be simulated by a nano-virtual device?

Hades couldn't help but ponder this question. Although his device had a realistic experience function for medical purposes, that function's realistic sensation was reduced by seventy percent, retaining only thirty percent of the feeling. Moreover, for safety reasons, only a very few authorized software programs would enable this function.

So, was this real-life sensation due to equipment malfunction? But could a function with only thirty percent capability truly simulate it so realistically?

Hades didn't know why, but a bold guess suddenly popped into his mind: could he actually be in the real world right now?

At this thought, Hades inexplicably shivered. Perhaps his guess was true, and he had become a character from YGGDRASIL and arrived in the real world.

....

But in an instant, he dismissed the idea. After all, humans in the real world couldn't fly without the aid of a flying device.

Furthermore, there were no such landscapes in reality. In terms of ecological cities, the natural scenery as far as the eye could see was too complex, with not only endless grasslands but also forests and mountains. Even the most advanced ecological cities could hardly achieve this level.

As for outside the ecological cities, if there were still unpolluted and undamaged natural landscapes, the government wouldn't have to expend so much effort and money building ecological cities.

In the early 22nd century, the environment was severely damaged, agricultural industries collapsed, and the sky was often covered by black mist, making it almost impossible to see the sun. Due to the streets being enveloped by thick fog of harmful substances, one couldn't go out without wearing a gas mask.

Of course, this had nothing to do with Hades. He had lived in an ecological city since he could remember. Although he couldn't freely go wherever he wanted and often couldn't see his parents, at least he lived a wealthy life and could get anything he desired. What displeased him, however, was that there were always a bunch of people who wanted him to study those boring and tedious courses.

Having lived in an ecological city for over Twenty years, he had grown accustomed to being confined there, and his life had long lost its passion. If he could, he would rather leave the ecological city and go to the vast sky outside. Even if he could only wear a gas mask, he wanted to see what the vast world looked like. Perhaps there were still unpolluted environments on Earth.

If this was the real world, Hades felt it wasn't so bad, but he worried that in the end, he was just an early access player for YGGDRASIL Part Two.

Such a thing was not without precedent; a well-known game operator once did just that. Although it eventually led to a lawsuit and ultimately caused the government to impose restrictions on nano-virtual device legislation, it still had a certain promotional effect.

Hades didn't know which was real, the real world or the virtual world. Just as his mind was intensely clashing, he also reached the ground. The feeling of his feet firmly on the ground and the sensation of his soles bearing his body weight unconsciously shifted his heart one notch towards the real world.

On the plain in front of him, scattered houses built with thatch and wood could be seen, and light emanated from one of them.

"Is it a village?" Hades mumbled to himself as he walked towards the lit house.

Upon reaching the doorway, Hades faintly heard muffled voices from the other side of the wooden door. He couldn't make out the language; it didn't feel like his everyday language, yet he had a feeling that if he could hear the content clearly, he would be able to understand its meaning.

Raising his hand, Hades gently knocked twice on the wooden door. The dull sound was like a death knell tolling, and the voices on the other side of the wooden door immediately fell silent. At the same time, the entire village seemed to plunge into silence with the knock.

Hades, at this moment, also unconsciously grew nervous. Because he couldn't determine whether he was in the real world or a virtual world, perhaps an unspeakable monster might appear when the wooden door was opened.

He somewhat regretted making such a hasty decision. At the very least, he should have eavesdropped on what was being said inside first. But as 'thump-thump' footsteps came from behind the door, Hades could only grit his teeth and stand at the doorway, adopting a vigilant stance.

At the same time, he instinctively wanted to bring up his panel to check his character attributes, but then remembered that the YGGDRASIL operation panel had disappeared.

However, what Hades didn't expect was that suddenly, deep within his consciousness, a string of information was injected into his brain. That string of information was precisely the character attribute information he wanted to bring up.

Hades's head was a bit dazed, but at this moment, he couldn't dwell on it. With a creak, the wooden door opened.

Hades's muscles tensed, cold sweat trickled down his forehead, and the stone in his heart finally dropped. Behind the opened wooden door was not some unspeakable strange creature, but a human, a man with graying hair.

The man had a mixed Asian and European face, and the weathered look on his face indicated that he was no longer young. His rough hands and the thick calluses on them were something Hades had never seen before.

Although the person who appeared before him was a male human like himself, it would be much better if this man wasn't holding a steel fork pointed at him.

"Who are you?" Emmot gripped the steel fork tightly with both hands, looking at the handsome young man outside the door who seemed like he could be blown over by a gust of wind.

In this village far from the city, strangers rarely visited. The men, women, old, and young in the village all knew each other. After nightfall, villagers would return to their homes to rest. Even if there was something that required knocking on someone else's door, they would identify themselves while knocking, and their voice was the best way to distinguish them.

This was an almost unwritten rule in the village, so if there was a knock at this time, and the person knocking didn't identify themselves, then there might be a problem. Regardless of who the other party was, picking up a steel fork was a necessary action.

Because inside the house behind Emmot, were his wife and two daughters. If the other party was a thief, at least he could strike first, and the sound of the fight could also alert the other villagers.
