Chapter 10 - Grow up

Dante walked over to Take and the boys.

They were already sparring. It was a free for all, jutsu usage was permitted.

Dante saw Taka using his shadow possession jutsu, he was trying to catch Haro and Agui.

Agui was using water jutsu, he was throwing water balls at Haro.

Haro's arms were massive and he was chasing Agui.

As Dante walked up they noticed him and stopped moving around.

Dante say Haro leave to the tree.

Dante was confused, he didn't know what he even did to him.

Take and Agui walked over.

Dante we are training with jutsu today. Said Agui.

Ok, what's up with Haro? Is he upset with me?

He thinks you lied to him, Said Take.

Lied? About what?

Your jutsu.

Well to be honest, we all know you lied about it, but he doesn't like being lied too, said Agui.

Oh, that's not a big deal, anymore.

At the time, I had to keep it secret. You all will understand once you see.

Agui and Take went over to Haro and told him what Dante just said.

Haro walked over to Dante.

It's not about the jutsu, I thought we were friends, said Haro.

We are friends, even though we've only known each other for a couple days.

Part of the reason I didn't want to show you guys is because I like you guy's, you're good people and once you see what I can do, you'll understand.

You keep saying we will understand, but how can you be so sure? Asked Agui.

Take was observing Dante.

He isn't lying this time, he really believes we will understand... Said Take.

Haro and Agui had known Take since they were born, he was always the smartest and they trusted him and his judgement.

You see the thing about my jutsu is..... It's not ordinary. It's something special, something your clans will want.

You know, special enough for the hokage to have me followed by his anbu, enough for your clans and all clans in konoha to follow me around.

Last night, a lot of people saw what I can do. It's out in the open, even if I don't show you today. You will know by the time you get home.

Followed? What do you mean? Why would every clan in konoha want to follow you? Asked Haro.

Yeah, I don't sense anyone around. Said Agui.

As I said, the hokage has some anbu watching me, I haven't seen them or sensed them either, but with the shit that happened yesterday. I would be surprised if he didn't have me watched.

So what's this special jutsu of yours? Asked Take.

It's less of a jutsu and more of a kekkei genkai....

Haro then spoke up.

So you have a special kekkei genkai, and you didn't want to show us because we are from clans?

You're really full of yourself, you really think all of the clans in konoha will want your kekkei genkai...

We already have kekkei genkai's, why would our clans and the rest of the clans in the village want yours. What makes you think your kekkei genkai is better than ours?

Haro blurted out.

Fine.... I'll answer your questions, since you want to be childish and be upset because I lied to you.

First off, you being from a clan makes a big difference.

You may not understand, since you have your clan to back you up, but us clanless kids operate different.

Not by choice but necessity, what do you think happens to all civilian ninja?

Some sell their loyalty for opportunity, but that's only if you have some talent or get lucky and a clan picks you up and takes you into theirs.

For those who don't get lucky, they get used as fodder.

Always the first to be sent out at war, or first to be sacrificed on a mission.

Small clans aren't much better, but at least they have the advantage of previous generations of their clan.

Civil ninja have no one to rely on, they have to carve a place in the village themselves.

Now what do you think will happen to a civilian ninja that has a kekkei genkai?

Do you think he will just be left alone?

Do you think he will be protected?

Grow up, we are ninja.

We lie, we cheat and most of all we murder.

We do what it takes to live and we do what it takes to complete the mission, even if we have to die for it.

As far as my kekkei genkai, I don't know if it's better than anyone's. I never claimed it was, all I know is the potential of it.

You think being clan less is harder than being in a clan?

Haro asked and was going to add onto that question, but he was interrupted by Dante.

It's more difficult being clan less than being in a clan, to argue against that is to argue based on feelings.

Since the day you were born everything you could ever need to be the best ninja you could possibly be was handed to you.

You live in a community, where all the people listen and bow to you, all because your father is a strong member of your clan.

Every day you eat enough to feed a family for a week.

Most of all, you are given jutsu by your clan as it is your right for being born in the clan.

Tell me, how many people outside of your clan can use or know how to use your clan jutsu?

What would happen if you taught a handful of civilian ninja your clan jutsu?

Don't tell me they would willing join your clan, I mean some will, but let's not play pretend anymore.

We all know the offer to join the clan is only for appearance, we all know what would happen if they refused....

Sure, being born in a clan isn't so easy either. I know that much, but the alternative is much worse, trust me on that.

Anyways, we've gone off topic.

My kekkei genkai, it's called Light Release.

This is what I can do with it.

Dante then used light projection and held a spear of light in his right hand, then he threw it into the air. It kept going up until it was out of sight.

Moments later, it never fell back down.

That's my newest jutsu.

Now then.... I have to get going. I have training to do.

With that Dante walked away.

Damn, I was foolish for trying to have friends here.

Especially friends from clans.

Whatever, it was fun while it lasted.

Dante walked to another part of the training grounds.

First things first, what's most important to train and what can wait.

The most important thing for me to train is my light Release jutsu.

I need to train at least one of them to the max before I graduate.

The only problem is, I don't know what the max level for any of them will be.

Next is the weapon Proficiencies.

Current I have sword and spear, but I'm pretty sure if I fight with a kunai I'll get the related proficiency skill, and the same goes for other weapons.

The problem with those is I need a sparing partner for efficient progression. I don't think swinging a weapon at the air all day will yield great results.

Lastly, chakra control.

Like my light release jutsu, I don't know what the max level for that will be, but I do know chakra control will benefit jutsu I haven't even learned yet.

So for now, I'll train my chakra control. I'll train Light Release whenever I get bored of sitting still and I'll make some time to experiment with my wings.

Sooner or later I'll be flying around, so I might as well get everyone in konoha used to it.

At that Dante had formulated a plan, he didn't know if it was the best training plan, but he knew it was better than sitting still and doing nothing.

Take, Haro and Agui were silent as Dante walked away.

After a few minutes Take spoke up.

Dante isn't wrong, he might not know what it's like being born in a clan, but from his perspective and all the other civilian ninjas perspectives.

Being from a clan comes with more ups than downs.

Haro didn't like what he was hearing. All his life he grew up with expectations.

Everyday someone in his clan would put their expectations onto him.

He wasn't allowed to make any choices for himself, the clan made them all. Since the day he was born his friends were decided for him, his career was decided for him and soon his wife would be decided for him.

Deep down he knew, ninja without clans had a lower survival rate than clan ninja. He wasn't dumb enough to assume it's because clan ninja are just over all more talented. He knew the training his clan made him go through since before he joined the academy made a difference and he knew the jutsu his clan have been hoarding makes a difference. He just didn't like when others say his life is easy because he was born into a clan.

Haro calmed himself down and responded.

I know that Take, but we were supposed to be friends. Now that I seen his kekkei genkai, I understand why he hid it and lied about it, but if he would have showed me I would have..... Before he could finish Take stopped him.

You would have told your clan head. If Choza asked you about it you would have no choice but to tell him.

Same goes for me and Agui. We have benefited from our clans since we were born. To not inform our clan heads would be traitorous. Would you have betrayed your family for a guy you just started speaking with not even a week ago?

I wouldn't, if he would have shown me his kekkei genkai on any of the days we sparred, I would have informed Shikaku on the same day.

I agree with Take.

Haro, I like Dante he's a good guy and all, but the clan took care of me and my sister when my parents died. So I won't betray them. Said Agui.

Whenever Dante was just a civilian striving to be a ninja everything was fine, but he was right, the clans will all want that kind of kekkei genkai for themselves.

He didn't use hand seals, and his jutsu didn't have a physical property, but he was able to hold it in his hand.

What kind of damage would that kind of jutsu do if it hit someone?

He said it was light release....

Haro, you shouldn't be upset by what he said, and you shouldn't be upset because he lied about it.

After all, we are going to be ninja.

Lying will be a part of daily life, and it will be the best part out off the worst of it all. Said Take as he walked away.

Agui followed him.

They both walked to the edge of the academy grounds and headed home.

Haro looked up at them as they left.

He remained there, thinking about it all.

After an hour of thinking, he also headed home.

They were all right, he wasn't prepared to betray his clan, even though he doesn't get to make his own life choices, he remembered Dante from a couple days ago looked like he had starved to death.....

He would inform his clan leader about Dante, and he would do as he is commanded, and so would his friends.

...

...

...

Dante was sitting still and concentrated on keeping the leaf stuck to his forehead.

It had been an hour, and he didn't plan on stopping.

After three hours, he checked his progress his chakra control had gone up to level 5, it was increasing faster than a couple days ago.

Dante thought it was because his chakra had increased significantly.

He then used his light jutsu on cooldown, he would shoot his light bullet and light wave up in the sky and he would body flicker whenever his jutsu were on cooldown.

He trained like that for two hours and checked his progress.

His body flicker was surprisingly at level 6, he hadn't checked it since he learned it, but he had been using it constantly, especially in combat.

Light release went up to level 8.

The others stayed at the same level, but his progress bar went up to more than half way for both light bullet and light wave.

Light projection stayed at level 4 but the progress bar showed it was a couple uses away from leveling up.

Alright, my progress isn't too slow.

Still better to do dungeons, but I need missions.

So this is the best way to train that's available to me.

Now I need to find out the maximum capabilities of my body and wings.

Let's see, I'll start with my wings.

As Dante thought about them, they appeared.

They're really soft, I can't imagine using them to protect myself.

Once the thought of protection passed his mind he instantly had to try.

They are large enough to cover my body, if they were hard I could cover my body and protect myself from weapon throws.

Once he thought about his wings being hard, the took on a metallic sheen.

They went from soft to hard and shaft in an instant, but they were still flexible.

Oh shit, now this is really useful.

Dante then controlled this wings to attack, then defend.

He realized, whatever he wanted them to do they would.

If he wanted them to be soft it would happen.

Hard and sharp, attack or defend.

The more he utalized them the more fluid his motions became.

After an hour of moving his wings around, he was using them like it was second nature.

One wing would attack, one would defend.

One would be hard while the other soft.

After two hours he could choose what part of his wings would harden.

If he wanted just the tips to harden, then it would do that.

After three hours, Dante was ready to try flying.

He crouched down and prepared to jump into the air.

Before he could jump, he heard a voice.

There was an anbu behind him.

Lord hokage requests your presence at the hokage tower.

Dante turned to look at the anbu, his mask was white with a fox like face.

Dante knew who this was, even if he didn't know what his mask looked like, his hair gave it away.

White hair, fox mask with red outlines on the eyes and where there should be whiskers.

It was Kakashi....

Ok, I understand. I'll go see him now.

Dante then prepared to jump into the sky and fly over to the hokage, but the anbu ninja didn't leave.

Follow me, I'll take you there.

Dante's disappointment was written on his face. He was going to use the opportunity to try and fly.

Ok then....

Dante was waiting for Kakashi to lead the way, but he just stood there.

What's wrong, Kakashi.

Does the hokage want to see me now, or after the academy time? Academy should be over in about an hour. Do I'll get back to training if that's the case.

Kakashi was a bit surprised, how did Dante know it was him.

How do you know it's me?

Oh, that's easy. White hair small sword on your back, there aren't many ninja with your hair color and even less that carry a short sword.

How do you know it couldn't have been one of my clans men?

Well, I haven't seen anyone that looks like you so I just kind of assumed it was you..... And you confirmed it.....

The wings draw too much attention. Hide them and I'll lead you to the hokage.

Oh, that's what you were waiting for. You should have just said so....

Dante's wings disappeared in the blink of an eye, Kakashi had no idea how it worked, one moment he saw them and the next they were gone.

Let's go.

Kakashi then flickered towards the hokage tower.

Kakashi was too fast for Dante to track, but he knew where he was going, so he flickered in the direction of the hokage tower.

Dante assumed that gave him permission to flicker onto buildings to head to the hokage tower, even though he wasn't a ninja yet and there was no emergency.

As Dante landed on people's roofs he would occasionally break some tiles.

Oh shit, looks like my flickering requires some finesse.

I'll just let the hokage know, I'm sure he'll understand.

Dante reached the entrance of the hokage tower and Kakashi was waiting there reading his book.

Dante saw the title.... "Make out paradise"....

Kakashi put away his book and said, your fast for an academy brat. Then he walked inside, there were no guards but Dante knew if you didn't belong there you wouldn't get in.

As he walked inside the first thing he saw were people rushing.

They were all holding stacks of papers.

As Dante walked through the halls and up the stairs all he saw was mountains of peper work, everyone in there looked like they were drowning in it. On the third floor there were less people, enough to count on two hands.

They had noticably smaller stacks of papers, some even had a couple pages, not even enough for a book.

At the hokages door. Kakashi spoke up.

Go inside he's been waiting for you.

Dante nodded at Kakashi and opened the door.

He saw a pile of paperwork on the desk and Hiruzen was reading a paper while smoking his pipe.

He was wearing his hokage robe and his hat rested on a stand near him.

Hiruzen looked up.

Dante, I see you made it.

We have a lot to talk about....
