Expelliarmus struck the scythe in Death's hand. His grip went numb, and the weapon flew straight from his grasp.
Almost immediately, however, Death stretched out a hand and summoned the flying scythe back to him.
Shock and fury surged through him. He had never expected a wizard's spell to actually work on him.
A lowly wizard had dared raise his wand against a god. He would die for his insolence!
Death drove his scythe into the ground and began chanting an ancient incantation.
"Rift of the Dead: Soul Devour!"
A fissure immediately split open beneath him. Countless withered spectral hands reached out from within, frantically clawing at everything around them.
Harry's eyes narrowed. He instantly recognized that the rift was connected to the dimension of the dead.
His power was severely restricted within the wizarding world, so Harry did not dare underestimate the attack. Under his control, the scarlet magic surrounding his body intertwined with the brilliant green glow of his wand, forming a translucent barrier around him.
The ghostly hands slammed against the shield, producing a continuous corrosive hiss, yet not one of them could penetrate it.
Harry slowly raised his wand and aimed its tip directly at the center of the rift.
"You can't even use dimensional energy properly. You really are the weakest Dimensional Demon God I've ever seen."
The moment he finished speaking, Harry launched his next attack.
He thrust his wand forward. This time, the brilliant green disintegration beam did not remain a concentrated ray. Instead, it spread into an enormous net of light that instantly covered the entire rift.
The instant the net touched the edges of the fissure, a deafening roar erupted. The disintegration energy actually began breaking down the spatial tear itself.
Under the relentless pressure of the disintegration beam, the pitch-black rift slowly began to close. The spectral hands caught within the glowing net screamed in agony before rapidly crumbling into ash.
Death trembled with rage.
He violently pulled his scythe free and poured nearly half of his available power into it. Blinding gray light erupted along the blade.
"Damned wizard! I will annihilate your soul!"
Death leaped into the air and swept his scythe through a perfect arc. This time, the decaying slash did not travel in a straight line. It expanded into an enormous circular blade.
The ring spun forward at tremendous speed, cutting through everything in its path. Even Harry's disintegration beam was sliced apart.
Harry drew a deep breath. Scarlet magic gathered behind him and condensed into a pair of enormous wings.
With a powerful beat of those wings, his speed skyrocketed.
Instead of dodging, Harry charged directly toward the spinning ring. His wand traced an intricate arc through the air as the brilliant green disintegration energy merged with his scarlet magic, forming a long, slender sword of light.
Clang!
The instant the light sword collided with the circular slash, the entire world seemed to freeze.
Ripples of gray-black, green, and scarlet energy spread in every direction. The ground collapsed layer by layer, while distant trees were ripped from the earth by their roots.
Death suddenly felt a force far beyond anything he had expected travel through his scythe and into his arm. His bones creaked under the pressure, and he was hurled backward, smashing heavily into a distant rock wall. A trace of black, energy-like fluid spilled from his mouth.
Harry hovered in midair, the wings of magic behind him trembling slightly. He looked down at Death's battered form, a mocking smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"So this is the strength of a Dimensional Demon God? You can't even withstand half my power."
Death dropped to one knee amid the shattered ground. One hand, stained with black slime, clutched his scythe for support. Without it, he would have collapsed entirely.
His scarlet pupils widened in shock. The arrogance that had once filled his gaze was gone, replaced by incomprehension. Even his voice had lost its former authority, trembling uncontrollably.
"Impossible... This is absolutely impossible!"
He snapped his head upward and stared at Harry. The black mist surrounding him churned violently with his emotions, and even his breathing became ragged.
"You're nothing more than a pathetic, insignificant wizard! How could you... how could you possess enough power to defeat a Dimensional Demon God?!"
Harry looked down at him from above.
"Who told you that the power of a Dimensional Demon God was invincible? And who told you there weren't far greater powers in existence?
"You call me a weak wizard because you know nothing. In many worlds, wizards are gods."
Death stared at the scarlet magic still covering Harry's body, his voice filled with a mixture of fury and horror.
"I rule the dimensions of life and death! Even the cycle of souls is under my control!
"What gives you the power to shatter my Death Slash? How could you possibly force me into this state?!"
He practically roared the final words, but the confidence behind his voice continued to crumble. For the first time, unmistakable fear appeared in his eyes as he looked at Harry.
"This is wrong... Your power shouldn't be like this! How can the chaos magic of the wizarding world surpass the source power of a dimension?!
"What kind of monster are you?!"
Harry clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Compared to me, you're obviously the one who looks like a monster."
Harry never allowed himself to become careless when facing a Dimensional Demon God. Now that he had secured the upper hand, even greater magical power erupted from his body as he prepared to completely destroy Death's avatar.
Death, however, had no intention of continuing the fight.
He stared at the lingering waves of green and scarlet energy before Harry. The last traces of arrogance in his scarlet eyes were swallowed by fear.
No longer caring about preserving his dignity, Death leaned on his scythe and staggered backward. Black mist erupted around him as he attempted to tear open space and flee through a dimensional rift.
"Trying to run?"
Harry's voice turned cold.
The scarlet wings behind him beat violently, and he shot forward like a bolt of crimson lightning.
Death gathered one final mass of gray-black energy at his fingertips and hurled it into the ground.
The resulting explosion released a vast cloud of black mist that completely obscured the surrounding area. At the same time, Death grabbed one of the withered hands protruding from the edge of the rift and pulled himself toward it.
Half his body had already entered the pitch-black dimensional passage when Harry caught up.
Just as Death was about to disappear completely, the tip of Harry's wand pressed against his back.
The brilliant green disintegration beam no longer erupted as a concentrated blast. Instead, it divided into countless threads of light that slipped through the gaps in Death's cloak and penetrated his body.
Wherever those threads passed, the gray-black power of the Demon God collapsed like snow beneath the sun. Even the source essence of his soul began to hiss as it was burned away.
Death released a bloodcurdling scream.
The half of his body that had already entered the dimensional rift was forcibly dragged back out by the glowing threads.
He frantically swung his scythe in an attempt to resist, only to discover that the dimensional energy within his body had already been sealed by the threads. He could not move so much as a fingertip.
Harry slowly tightened his grip on his wand.
The threads abruptly contracted before erupting throughout Death's entire body, wrapping him from head to toe within a brilliant green cocoon of light.
"No! I am a Dimensional Demon God! Release me!"
Death was different from the Dimensional Demon Gods of the wider multiverse.
When he had first come into existence, the three brothers had deceived him and taken away a portion of his source essence.
As a result, Death had never been complete. Only by gathering all three Deathly Hallows and recovering the missing pieces of himself could he become a fully realized Dimensional Demon God.
Because of his incomplete state, every fragment of his source essence was extraordinarily precious to him. The avatar Harry had trapped contained part of Death's original essence, and losing it would be an agonizing blow even to his true body.
Harry showed no mercy despite Death's screams.
Instead, he poured even more power into the spell.
Gradually, Death's roars weakened inside the cocoon. Reflected in his scarlet eyes was the sight of his own body being torn apart by countless threads of light and reduced piece by piece to specks of black ash.
Finally, even the scythe that symbolized his authority over death was consumed by the disintegration energy.
It crumbled into ash and vanished into the air.
