At the Pewter Gym, Gary's first Gym battle was underway.
Brock's Onix had already fallen, and facing Gary's Charmander, Brock sent out his second Pokemon: "Geodude, go!!!"
"Cha!". Charmander excitedly spread his arms, staring intently at Geodude.
"Oh~ He's very aggressive," Brock smiled. "Geodude, use Rock Throw!"
This move sounds good, but in reality... Geodude casually picked up some gravel from the ground and threw them at Charmander: "Take this, old man!"
Smack! Charmander caught the gravel with one hand, then Dragon-type energy gathered in his hand.
Crash! The green Dragon Claw directly crushed the gravel into a handful of sand...
"Charmander, don't hold back, Flamethrower!" Gary calmly waved his hand.
"Cha!" Charmander also had a short temper.
"You threw that at me, old man, did you?" He opened his mouth and unleashed a scorching blast of flames.
Boom! After the pillar of fire, a pitch-black rock appeared in the arena. Geodude fell directly to the ground, spitting out a puff of black smoke...
Brock's forehead was covered in cold sweat.
"Is this a challenger? He's here to kick down the Gym!"
"Oh? I hit him too hard... My apologies..." Gary scratched his head.
Sizzle... Charmander puffed out his chest, satisfied, and a flash of evolution light emanated from his body.
"He's evolving?" Brock asked, surprised.
"Yes, it's about time. He's been training for so long on the journey, I think it's time he evolved," Gary nodded.
Soon, the white light receded, and a Charmeleon with fierce eyes, a single horn on its head, raging flames on its tail, and stronger, more powerful limbs appeared before Gary.
"What beautiful fur! He must have been very well cared for," Brock couldn't help but exclaim.
"Thank you for your guidance. This child indeed took a lot of my effort," Gary nodded proudly.
Although he lost the battle, being able to witness the growth of a challenger is the proudest moment for a Gym Leader.
Brock was also very magnanimous, coming over to Gary's side, and the two shook hands in reconciliation.
"This is the Boulder badge, proof that you defeated the Pewter Gym." Taking out his badge, Brock formally handed it to Gary.
"Thank you, I'll take it." Receiving the badge, Gary took out his badge collection case and put his first badge into the box.
"Ding... Mission complete. The Road to Indigo Plateau has been updated.
Completion: (1 / 8)!
Rewards have been distributed to the system backpack."
After finishing the Gym battle and bidding farewell to Brock, Gary finally had time to explore Pewter City a bit.
Although it wasn't a metropolis-level city, basic supplies were not a problem.
After purchasing food and medicine at the Poke Mart, Gary arrived at his last stop in Pewter City.
The Pewter City Science Museum!
It housed many different stones, as well as some wreckage from spaceships.
If the scientists' conjectures were correct, these remnants should be from the spaceship Clefairy used to come to Earth.
Of course, Gary wasn't interested in any of that. Compared to spaceships, the Pokemon fossils here interested him more.
After paying a fifty-dollar admission fee at the front desk, Gary walked calmly into the museum with his hands in his pockets.
"Sir, would you like me to introduce you to the exhibits?" A middle-aged researcher wearing glasses and a lab coat approached him and asked.
"No, I'd like to look around on my own, thank you." Declining the enthusiastic staff member, Gary went directly to the second floor.
Sure enough, as he looked up, two Kabuto fossils immediately came into view.
Gary leaned in curiously to examine them. These fossils carried the genes of ancient Pokemon.
In the near future, when genetic technology matures, they will be restored into living Pokemon.
Currently, in Gary's memory, the only scholar with this technology was Blaine of Cinnabar Island. This old man was not only a master of Fire-type Pokemon but also a very formidable scientist.
Although not every ancient Pokemon had formidable combat power, these Pokemon, having traversed hundreds or thousands of years to reappear in the world, was undoubtedly a romantic process in the eyes of scholars.
Next, Gary saw fossils of Omanyte and Omastar.
These were relatively common ancient Pokemon fossils in Kanto.
However, these Pokemon generally had low combat power, with their academic value outweighing their practical combat value.
"Gary, isn't that Gary!" Suddenly, a surprised voice rang out.
Gary looked up, and a middle-aged man with a square face appeared before him.
"You are?" Gary asked, puzzled.
"Oh, you might not remember, but I'm Dihara. Professor Oak was my doctoral supervisor!" The middle-aged scholar said excitedly.
"Hello," Gary politely nodded in greeting.
"Hahaha, long time no see! How is Professor Oak doing?" Dihara asked very warmly.
"Grandpa is doing very well, thank you for your concern," Gary replied truthfully.
"Are you here to visit?" Dihara continued to ask.
"Yes, I'm on a journey to become a Pokemon Trainer, and I happened to pass by here, so I wanted to see the Pokemon fossils," Gary explained.
"As expected of Professor Oak's grandson! He truly has a spirit of academic research." Dihara nodded with satisfaction. "There's a fossil revival project next year in Johto. If you're interested, you can come and see it then."
"Really? I'll definitely go!" Gary's eyes lit up. If it's Johto, he should be able to see Cradily and Anorith, and those two have much higher potential.
"Oh, by the way, come with me." Dihara thought for a moment and led Gary to an office.
"This is a very beautiful stone that I excavated myself in ancient times. I'll give it to you as a souvenir," Dihara took out a yellow amber from a drawer and handed it to Gary.
Gary's eyes narrowed. Mysterious amber! What a treasure!
"Can I really accept this?" Gary asked, unsure.
"Of course! This isn't a fossil, so I can make the decision!" Dihara straightened his back. "After all, I'm the curator here."
"Then I'm extremely grateful to you. I really like it." Gary joyfully accepted the amber, clutching it in his hand.
If all goes well, there's an ancient fierce dragon inside.
Aerodactyl, a top predator, one of the ancient overlords!
"No need to be so polite. I owe my doctorate to Professor Oak's careful guidance." Dihara waved his hand, and it was clear that he was a huge fan of Professor Oak.
"It's getting late, and I still need to travel to Cerulean City, Uncle Dihara. Let's meet again next time." Having received an unexpected surprise, Gary was no longer in the mood to continue touring the museum, so he bid farewell.
"Alright, then we'll meet again." Dihara smiled and nodded, very politely seeing Gary out of the museum.
Watching Gary's departing figure, a researcher came up behind Dihara. "Curator, that was an Aerodactyl amber. You just gave it away?"
"What do you know~ My teacher's kindness cannot be repaid by a mere piece of amber. If it can help young Gary, I'd give him every fossil in this room, and it wouldn't be a big deal!" Dihara clasped his hands behind his back, smiling with utter frankness.
