Chapter 1 - Lucky Guy

It hadn't been a long time since I had been back home, and already my life has gone to shit.

To say that I have bad luck would be an understatement. My life has been nothing but a miserably long journey to the grave; this is something some cynics would agree with and even applaud; however, this has literally been how my life has gone for as long as I can remember.

When I came back from college a week ago, I thought I could finally breathe easy, at least my bad luck was never strong or bad enough to bring any harm to my family; it had been just me, so why?

Why?

Why was the air thick with the metallic scent of blood?!

Taking a step back from where I stood, stepping on a viscous liquid, my hands fumbled reaching for the light switch on the right side of the wall. With a click, the dark space was saturated with bright white light. The abnormally messy living room came into view.

The couch was ripped in several places, with the filling spilt out in multiple different directions, the paintings and picture frames were on the floor, broken and covered in dark red liquid as it dripped lazily. The dining was much the same, with the table split down the middle, and a messy white fabric could be seen ripped to shreds around it.

Taking a few more steps into the room, my soles were slick with blood. I took a few more steps in the direction of the dining. Looking at the scene, my vision sawm as a hand flew up to my face, preventing the bile that threatened to escape me from spilling onto the floor.

Looking down, my eyes locked onto a pair of beautiful, bright blue ones; however, they were cold and empty, completely void of the spark of life, amusement, joy and sadness. Instead, they were filled with horror as the once beautiful face was contorted into one of eternal anguish. My bones felt as though replaced with lead, as I now stood incapable of any movement.

My legs refused to move, but it shook or was it the ground that shook? whichever it was became irrelevant.

A few moments of battling with myself finally caused me to fall to my knees as blood began to seep into my pants. Not knowing what to do, I began to crawl towards the ghastly sight that was my younger sister's corpse.

I didn't care that my sleeves had been stained red, I didn't care that my hands slipped, causing me to fall on my face, I didn't care that there was a nightmare creature right in front of me, with blood still dripping from it's disfigured maw, I didn't care that I might die the next moment.

My face began to warm up as hot tears began to spill from my eyes, warming my cheeks. Then I heard a bestial howl that was too animalistic to come from any human, but after a few seconds, I understood that it was my own screams, my own voice, my own sadness, my own grief, my own madness.

However, as desperate as I was to reach the corpse of my sister, I couldn't ignore the next thing that happened. My screams had distracted the abomination from its meal as it immediately refocused its abominable black eyes on me.

Its eyes were pitch black while lacking any and all manner of reason as it levelled it's gaze on me. After that, I did not feel like I could discard the things I cared for.

I cared about not dying, about living, I cared about not letting this damned monstrosity win, I cared about avenging my sister.

I was afraid.

Then the abomination moved, and suddenly my right arm that had been reaching for my sister was now missing, blood spurting from where it had been like a broken fountain. I did not even get the chance to scream because in the next moment the world spun and by the time I was able to see again the abomination was already shoving another part of my body into it's disgusting maw.

My eyes moved, locking onto my own body lying limply on the ground next to my sister's.

I don't want to die.

No!

Save. me!

Help. me!

Someone!

Anyone!

Please!

Please!

I don't. want to. die!

My thoughts were frantic and slowed as though being dragged through mud. My vision began to blur and darken. Tears spilt from my eyes one last time as my vision darkened further before it went black.
