Chapter 35 - Chapter 34 — Turning the Tide

The sky was fractured, not with fire or lightning, but with pure entropy. Across every continent, reality seemed to fold in on itself. Time loops overlapped with collapsing buildings. Mana currents reversed and surged unpredictably. Even the most elite S-rank hunters struggled to keep their footing as the laws of existence bent like paper.

Everywhere, humans screamed. The cities that had survived the first wave of Monarch armies now trembled under Antares' indirect counterassault. Buildings that were just moments ago intact twisted into incomprehensible angles, and roads disappeared only to reappear upside down. The air itself seemed alive, thick with raw distortion.

Above it all, in the heart of a ruined metropolis, Jinyoung hovered. His aura burned like a second sun, black and white energy spiraling and colliding, the full might of Duality finally under his command. The abyss and death within him, once unruly and chaotic, now moved in harmony.

He exhaled. "Duality… stabilize. Control the collapse. Make reality whole again."

Stabilizing Reality

The effect was immediate.

A pulse of white-grey and black-purple energy radiated outward, colliding with the temporal and causal distortions sent by Antares. Time loops snapped back into proper sequences. Collapsing buildings halted, then slowly reassembled themselves. Fallen hunters regained footing, their injuries partially mended as the stabilizing power flowed through them.

The Abyssal Legion, Jinyoung's army, felt the change too. No longer scattered and flickering between imperfect forms, each soldier and construct moved as a unified whole. Liam's armor solidified into a stronger, denser configuration, glowing faintly with black-white energy. The Ice Bear boss roared, twice its previous size, frost lacing over abyssal muscles. The Orc Mage's runes multiplied mid-spell, no longer spiraling into chaos.

Even the Insect King, resurrected under Jinyoung's Duality in a previous battle, spread its wings across the battlefield. It emitted a cry that resonated with the world's newly stabilized rhythm, reinforcing Jun Ho's protective bubble around survivors.

For the first time since the Monarch armies arrived, the world breathed in sync with Jinyoung's will.

Turning the Attacks

Jinyoung raised both arms, and his aura spiraled upward, reaching beyond Earth. Threads of causality, previously twisted and corrupted by Antares' indirect manipulation, were pulled into Duality's control. Temporal loops unraveled, inverted rivers corrected their flow, and mana constructs exploded midair, then reformed under his command.

He spoke, voice layered in black and white:

"Enough. You want to play with reality? Then feel the consequences of your own attacks."

The indirect forces Antares had cast recoiled, their chaotic trajectories redirected. Unstable probabilities surged outward, away from humanity, striking the intangible void where Antares' presence lingered. Shockwaves rippled across dimensions. For the first time in centuries, Antares' manipulations faltered.

The Rulers, watching from the astral plane, gasped.

Solarius' light flared violently. "He's… turning it back on him!"

Arctyron's form warped, mass bending around him. "He's manipulating causality, using the enemy's own power against him! This… this is something we didn't anticipate!"

Valerion's aura pulsed green, tendrils of life-energy connecting scattered hunters. "It's… unprecedented. Humanity might survive this yet."

Zephyriel's winds screamed, riding on the pulse of Duality. "Miracle or madness… I cannot tell."

Chronaxis' time threads spun violently. "Perfect control… but only for a moment. Maintaining this will drain him beyond anything I've seen."

Aetherion's mana surged, wrapping around global currents. "Even we could not bend probability like this without risking collapse!"

Umbrael's shadow threads tightened. "He is bending causality… but even he remains mortal. Too much, and he may fracture mentally."

Seraphel's sword of judgment shone across dimensions. "He risks everything… for all of existence. If he fails… nothing can stop total annihilation."

Rulers' Direct Intervention

The Rulers realized that Antares' indirect methods were being neutralized. Panic flickered across their forms, but it was tempered by grim focus.

Solarius' blazing light fractured across dimensions. "We cannot merely observe. If he succeeds, he may draw all our attention—and Antares will notice."

Arctyron's gravity pulses nearly destabilized Earth itself. "We intervene directly. Dangerous—but necessary."

Valerion's green vitality surged, intertwining life-streams across continents. "Hundreds of thousands of hunters still risk death. Our intervention is required to ensure stability."

Zephyriel's storms combined wind, lightning, and raw speed, forming blades slicing through mana distortions. "We'll protect the stabilized zones and coordinate with Duality. Humanity depends on it."

Chronaxis shattered hourglasses intentionally, bending time to preserve Jinyoung's control over reality. "I will hold causality threads. But every action we take risks paradox."

Aetherion's mana erupted like a supernova, reinforcing ambient flows for Jinyoung's Duality. "We can stabilize temporarily—but this will not last forever."

Umbrael's shadow threads expanded, binding souls and maintaining integrity across living beings. "Only the living can maintain the Duality's stabilization. We must protect them at all costs."

Seraphel's radiant blade cut across space, executing cosmic law in a concentrated strike. "We act together. If Jinyoung falters… everything is lost."

Battlefield Response

The Monarch armies, relentless moments ago, began to falter under the combined might of Jinyoung and the Rulers' intervention.

Desolator skeletal dragons screeched as the duality pulse rewrote causal threads around them. Molten giants froze mid-step, flames flickering uncertainly. Burning knights halted their charges, bodies suspended in perfectly stabilized positions.

Glacials froze mid-motion, Frost Wolves stopped in coordinated packs. Mirrorkin temporal spirits blinked as the Rulers' interference disrupted predictive calculations. Bound Ones' chains loosened, Shadeborn lost their fear manipulation edge. Every faction felt the invisible hand of Duality and Rulers reshaping the battlefield.

Hunters seized the advantage. Michael and Tom—two of the most elite—moved with precision, striking Blightborn swarms with surgical accuracy. Takado Shin's lightning strikes cut through Tempestborn before they could teleport. Haru's mana stabilizations created explosions that eradicated Glacials without collateral damage. Riyomi moved perfectly through shadows, disabling Bound Ones.

Even the Abyssal Legion adapted. Liam's armor pulsed with energy, Ice Bear boss moved in perfect sync with Duality, Orc Mage cast without misfires. The Insect King, protecting South Korea, coordinated defensive maneuvers like a living fortress.

The Rulers' Panic

Despite the apparent victory, the Rulers' anxiety intensified.

Solarius' light flickered nervously. "He's acting beyond even our expectations. Antares may escalate next."

Arctyron's mass shifted unpredictably. "Each second he stabilizes, we are drawn deeper into a situation we cannot control fully. One miscalculation could collapse entire continents."

Valerion's green aura quivered. "The hunters are still mortal. One mistake and… all of this effort will be meaningless."

Zephyriel's storm howled uncontrollably. "His control is perfect—but not infinite. Time will betray him if he pushes too far."

Chronaxis' threads twined chaotically. "Even I cannot predict how long he can maintain this balance. Every tick risks unraveling causality."

Aetherion's mana surged dangerously. "We are intervening directly—but even we may be insufficient if Antares reacts violently."

Umbrael's shadow network tensed. "All life under Duality's influence must remain alive, or the stabilization fails. One death, one disruption, and…"

Seraphel's sword glowed faintly. "We have to hope he can hold. There is no other choice."

Humanity Holds… For Now

For a brief, shining moment, reality was intact. Earth no longer buckled beneath Antares' indirect chaos. The Monarch armies, for the first time, were slowed, faltering under precision strikes and stabilized causality. Hunters fought with newfound clarity, and even civilians glimpsed hope through shattered skies.

But the Rulers knew the truth: this was temporary. Jinyoung had stopped the immediate bleeding of reality, but Antares had not yet intervened directly.

Time was still counting down, and every second of stabilization drained Jinyoung. Even Duality, perfected and stabilized, could not last forever.

And far beyond Earth, in the infinite darkness, Antares noticed. A flicker of irritation crossed his perception. The indirect assault had failed. Reality had bent to one mortal's will.

He would remember this.

And the war had only just begun.
