Chapter 57 - Growth in Repetition

The fourth entry felt less foreign.

The fifth felt controlled.

By the sixth, the dungeon no longer felt like an enemy.

It felt like terrain.

Floor 54 introduced mixed packs.

Slimes and goblins together.

The first time it happened, it almost broke their formation.

A goblin forced them forward while acid slimes cut off retreat.

Rei learned to clear path instead of chase kills.

Liora adjusted spacing instead of eliminating threats instantly.

Cain began moving without thinking.

The shadow at his feet never lagged.

By the end of the fifth entry, their coordination was sharper than it had ever been in training.

Floor 55 brought tighter corridors.

Ambushes from above.

The shadow-cat moved first now.

Sliding along beams.

Pausing before intersections.

Cain would tilt his head slightly.

Change direction.

No explanations.

Rei stopped asking.

"Left," Cain would say.

And they would move.

Experience replaced doubt.

On the seventh entry, Cain felt it.

Not during a boss fight.

Not during pressure.

During cleanup.

A goblin tried to flee.

He stepped forward.

Quick Step activated smoothly.

He closed distance, struck cleanly, ended it.

His status window flickered.

Then—

Skill Acquired

Kinetic Dampening

Kinetic Dampening

Reduces impact shock by dispersing force through stance and mana flow.

Requires proper footing.

He didn't smile.

But he understood.

The Hobgoblin cleaver had taught him.

Rei leveled shortly after.

Level 36.

Skill Acquired

Mana Burst

Mana Burst

Short amplification of physical output.

Rapid mana consumption.

Rei tested it immediately on the next goblin pack.

His swing cleaved through shield and bone in one motion.

He laughed.

"Now that feels right."

Liora reached Level 44 during the eighth entry.

Her mana control became frighteningly efficient.

Wind Edge no longer looked like a spell.

It looked like execution.

Aera progressed slower.

Level 29.

But something changed in her too.

She no longer flinched at sudden movement.

Her Stabilize skill improved naturally.

She held formation better.

By the ninth entry, Floor 58 felt manageable.

Demonlings appeared.

Small.

Faster than goblins.

Claws sharper.

The first time they saw one, Rei grinned.

"Finally."

The fight was harder.

Longer.

But controlled.

Cain felt something stir during that battle.

Not violent.

Not overwhelming.

Just a pressure at the base of his spine.

The shadow stretched slightly farther than usual.

For a split second, when a demonling lunged from above—

His body moved before conscious thought.

Quick Step flowed seamlessly into blade movement.

The demonling split cleanly in half.

Level Up

Level 38

Skill Acquired

Mana Blade

Mana Blade

Condenses mana along weapon edge, enhancing cutting force.

Sustained usage increases strain.

He tested it immediately.

Mana flowed along his blade.

Not dramatic.

Not flaming.

Just sharper.

Denser.

The next demonling fell in one clean motion.

Rei noticed.

"You got something new."

Cain nodded once.

Liora's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Control it. Don't overuse."

He didn't respond.

He didn't need to.

By the end of the ninth entry, their levels stood:

Cain — Level 38

Rei — Level 37

Liora — Level 45

Aera — Level 30

Their party efficiency had changed.

They moved without shouting commands.

Frontline pressure.

Backline support.

Center stability.

Even without a fifth member, they functioned like one unit.

Confidence grew quietly.

Not arrogance.

But belief.

After the ninth exit, standing outside the Guild annex, Rei stretched his arms and exhaled.

"Next one makes ten."

Liora adjusted her gloves.

"We clear and leave."

Aera looked at Cain.

"You feel it too, don't you?"

He glanced at his shadow.

It was normal.

Flat.

Still.

"…Yes."

The dungeon no longer felt threatening.

That was the dangerous part.

Because on the tenth entry—

They would not enter alone.
