Chapter 4 - Chapter Five

Dexter's POV

*oh my God isn't that the Li family matriarch and grandson?*

*Oh my God he is so handsome*

*What is the Li family doing here in a restaurant like this? Can I take pictures?*

*Do you want to die?*

"Ke, Lee, clear the restaurant up immediately"

I said as I pushed open the door of the restaurant, my grandmother first went in and I followed behind her, my eyes immediately landing on hers, those brown doe eyes lookin into mine, I felt a twinge of reaction I didn't understand, my eyes washed her over, landing on her stomach.

Madam Li walked over immediately recognizing the lady as she made her way over. "Young lady, can we sit here? We would like to talk to you?" I had never heard my grandma speak so calmly and dotingly.

Lee and Ke went to clear up the restaurant as we both sat opposite the girl and another young lady I guessed was her friend.

I used the opportunity to get a clear look at her, she was.... Still as beautiful but she looked paler and had lost a little weight. My brows creased slightly, wasn't she eating enough? Had the money in the card finished up just like that?

I opened my mouth wanting to talk but kept it close immediately, I didn't trust myself to say something that wouldn't perhaps frighten her away instead.

For the first time I felt at loss for what to do.

"Little girl, can I call you Jenny?"

"Ah yes grandma"

"Alright uh... This is my grandson and he... Told me everything that's happened, and... We know that... You're pregnant"

"What? You know about my baby?" her eyes widen and a trace of fear and panic immediately flashed through those brown eyes, I felt a pang of something I couldn't explain deep down and crossed my fingers together.

"Yes we do, And—"

She immediately went down on her knees and my eyes widened, even madam Li was stunned and surprised.

"Jenny get up, you shouldn't do that" her friend immediately squatted down wanting to help her up.

"Please, I beg of you, I'm not asking for anything but I don't want to abort my baby, I won't ever ask you to take responsibility for the child or anything, but I can't...

Remove the child"

My eyes widened, as I looked at my grandmother too. Was she thinking we were going to ask her to remove the baby?

I clenched my fist. "No no no, you misunderstand me my dear quick get up the floor is cold" grandmother turned to me and hit my shoulder.

"ah"

"Quick help her up, how can you let the mother of your child kneel on the floor"

I bent over and gently took her hand up, I felt a jolt of electricity pass through my body as I stared down at her quietly.

After everyone had calmed down and we all sitting again, I looked at the her.

"We..." my eyes flashed with a feeling of softness I never thought I was capable of.

"... We would never ask you to remove the baby"

"Yes, that's true, we're not that heartless, this is my great grandchild we are talking about, I won't let any harm come to the child and neither will we let you suffer and raise the child alone"

"What do you mean madam Li?"

"Oh please call me grandmother, we're not strangers anymore after this, what I'm saying is that, I want you to marry my grandson"

"What?!" I, Jenny and the girl I later knew as Felicia said at once. I was shocked and surprised but immediately regained my composure feeling a wave of complicated emotions.

"Yes Jenny girl, you don't want to abort the child, and as the matriarch of the Li family, we do not let our blood sleep outside, we wouldn't want our family first grandchild to be an illegitimate child, Do understand where I'm coming from right?"

Grandmother held her hands as she looked at her solemnly.

"I.. I do understand, but marriage seems…."

She looked at me and I stared at her,

"You don't have to worry about that, you can register your marriage first in the court and slowly get to know each other better"

I could see the flash of reluctance and hesitation in her eyes and I knew she was feeling conflicted just as I was.

Of a truth I also didn't want to get married, I never imagined myself being a husband talk less a father, I never saw women as anything other than a distractions, but now as I stared at those brown innocent eyes that seemed to hold so much unspoken weight, watching her place her hand subconsciously on her stomach as a protective gesture, I felt maybe marriage might not be such a bad thing....

I stood up and slowly got down on one knee, I watched her eyes widened and I thought... She has such expressive eyes. "Miss Choi, I know... We didn't exactly start out... Like normal people, and this might be too sudden for you, but I would like us to get married, I would like to be a man and step up to my responsibilities, not just for our child, but for the circumstances I forced on us, it wasn't intentional but that isn't an excuse for me to back out of this, and If you'd agree, I would like us to be together and get to know each other better"

I didn't know where I got the courage to actually say all those words, but nevertheless it felt... Nice and as I looked at her I felt... This should be worth it.

I watched a flicker of emotion go through her eyes as she stared at her friend who gave her a nod and at my grandmother who had a satisfied expression on her face, she then looked down at me and slowly nodded her head.

"Alright, I agree to register our... Marriage together"
