Sam's POV
The phone buzzes against my desk, Gerry's name flashing across the screen like a warning.
"I hear Mason has been expelled from the Academy," he says without preamble when I answer.
My blood runs cold. Mason was supposed to handle that Murphy brat for me, not get himself thrown out.
"What do you mean expelled?" I snarl into the phone.
"Kicked out. Permanently. Word is he was intimidating Lara's fated mate. But that's not all. He was accepting bribes, letting unqualified students buy their way in. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that arrangement, would you?"
The accusation hangs heavy between us. My jaw clenches.
"Are you suggesting my daughter didn't earn her place at the Academy? Lara was accepted because she's a formidable Alpha and warrior."
