Chapter 9 - Chapter 8 The Vineyard

Maxi was a notorious scoundrel in Red Leaf Fortress. He knew all the ins and outs of Red Leaf Fortress, which families he could provoke and which he couldn't. He was famous for bullying the weak and fearing the strong. Recently, he scoffed at rumors that there were good things outside and that farming could make money—what was outside that a hooligan like him didn't know?

Land was good, but you also needed a life to enjoy it! Not to mention beasts and thieves, even if a monster just ran wild in the fields, a year's harvest would be gone. It wasn't like him, who ate wherever he went, and no one in Red Leaf City dared to say anything to him.

Unfortunately, when a person is unlucky, even drinking cold water can get stuck in their teeth. He came home a little late today and was ambushed, beaten in a sack, and now he didn't even know where he was.

A basin of cold water woke Maxi up. He saw noble Knight adults all around him. A small child sat among the Knight adults, looking him up and down, with no expression on his face.

"You are Maxi?" the little brat above spoke.

He curled his lip in disdain: "Yes."

"I don't like it. Change it. From now on, you'll be called Cyber," the child above spoke again.

Maxi and Kayal's mother, Marcy, had the same pronunciation, so it was no wonder Kayal immediately asked for a name change.

Maxi was indeed a low-level hooligan, and he immediately started swearing: "Bullshit! Why should I change my name!"

Before he could finish, a stick as thick as a thumb struck him directly on the back of his head. The wooden stick broke, and his head was split open.

"I'll change my name! I'll change my name!" Maxi, lying on the ground like a dead dog, cried out.

Maxi, no, he should be called Cyber, crawled up and knelt on the ground, a bloody, fawning smile on his face: "I don't know who the adult is, or what he wants with this humble one."

"Who I am is not important right now. It's just that I have something I want you to do..." The beautiful little brat above showed a smile that made Cyber want to punch him, but the nearby Knights kept him from making any sudden moves.

Three days later.

"Hey, did you hear? That Maxi guy actually changed his name?"

"That's not the point! The point is, why hasn't that guy bothered us for days?"

"I heard he bought a piece of farmland outside, and he's supposedly setting up some kind of farm?"

"Hmph, how could that scoundrel have money to buy land?"

"Don't say that, I heard he offered some kind of gift to the Lord of the City, and the Lord of the City said there's definite money to be made outside, so he was so eager to use his money to buy land."

"Tch, that scoundrel, let alone farming, it's debatable whether he can even keep himself alive with what he grows."

"It seems not, I heard that guy is growing... v, vitis? (Grapes)"

"Never even heard of it."

"Yeah, yeah, I wonder if it will sell well..."

Similar remarks spread throughout Red Leaf Ridge, and even among the many castles near Red Leaf Fortress. Suddenly, this scoundrel named Cyber became the focus of everyone's attention. And where was this focus now?

This focus was now wearing a tailcoat modified by Kayal, following behind Kayal with a fawning smile, pointing out the operating farm to him.

The farm was based on successful agricultural models from later generations, dividing the area into plots, then raising animals. The innermost area was directly walled off, in a gradually weakening rhomboid-fortress style, with a five-pointed star shape for the manor. Inside, of course, were villa-style houses for the manor, and below that was a wine cellar, naturally prepared for future wine production.

Then, under the garden beneath the grape arbor, there was a sealed biogas digester. The sewage inlet was naturally outside the manor for servants to use, and the biogas digester was also connected to an external air pump, which would release gas with just one press (people in northern rural areas should know that the simple working principle of a water pump can draw water from deep places, and the principle is derived from this).

The discarded biogas slurry was used directly as fertilizer and would be much more effective than raw manure. Inside, besides grapes and the garden, there was naturally nothing else. Outside were farmhouses, including a cowshed for future domesticated dairy cows, and pastures for sheep and horses. Kayal didn't know if pigs were native to Britain, but he kept an eye out and still built a pigsty. Kayal didn't do anything else, this was just an experiment. All he wanted to do was let the residents of Red Leaf Fortress know that besides wheat, other things could also be grown and earn money. Not only that, he also wanted to create an ecological chain of crops for the entire Red Leaf City, so that when produce was abundant, they wouldn't fear not having enough to eat.

"Cyber, I don't like your smile. From now on, when you face me, just smile. I think a smile is a respectful smile. Your current expression is really not good," Kayal instructed.

"Yes, yes, yes." Cyber, unable to change his habits immediately, just kept smiling like a pug.

"You've done well. From now on, you'll be my servant, setting an example for the hooligans in Red Leaf Fortress, letting them know that only going straight is the right path." Kayal waved his hand, and Cyber was instantly overjoyed and even more eager.

"I'll entrust the estate to you from now on. Your monthly offering will be ten silver coins." The Kingdom of Camelot had very little gold mining development, mostly buried on the island of Ireland. Now, Ireland and Britain were completely two different countries, so the circulating currency in the Kingdom of Camelot was silver coins. They had mutual dealings with Roman silver coins. No one had yet discovered the danger of an economic system being controlled, so both currencies were considered circulating money in Camelot. Below that, there was no copper coin basis. In Camelot and Rome, copper and iron were special metals used for casting weapons, so below silver coins, only grain was used for exchange. One silver coin could buy about eighty pounds of grain of equal value (one kilogram equals 2.2 pounds, in other words, a pound is equivalent to a catty). Ten silver coins was roughly a farmer's annual income.

"Thank you, Adult, thank you, Adult!" Cyber could only kneel on the ground excitedly at this moment, constantly expressing his loyalty.

"Work hard, let those shrewish women in Red Leaf Fortress know that you can also stand on your own. I believe you can do well." If everything goes according to my script.

Patting Cyber's shoulder, Kayal's height was just right to reach when Cyber was half-kneeling.

Because it was only a test, even though it was known that Cyber would succeed, only 1 square rod (equivalent to 25 square meters) of grapes was planted due to Grand Duke Andrei's intervention.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, three months later...
