Chapter 279: Evil Soul Masters Targeting Me?

Hearing those words, Ye Xinglan's heart gave a hard thump but quickly calmed again.

"Don't lie to me. How could I possibly become one of the Shrek Seven Monsters?"

She recalled how she had once challenged Dai Yueyan, only to be stopped midway. From that moment on, Ye Xinglan had completely lost faith in Shrek Academy.

Forget becoming a god—first, she needed to become someone strong enough to control her own fate.

Jiang Chen thought for a moment, then sent a message to Huo Tiangang, asking him to handle Ye Xinglan's enrollment.

With Ye Xinglan's talent, getting into Douluo University was no issue at all. Leaving Shrek Academy, on the other hand, was a bit troublesome.

But that wasn't important.

After all, Ye Xinglan herself was already here.

Neither of them felt like sightseeing, so they headed straight toward Heaven Dou Airport.

"That Shrek… forest—what did that mean?" Ye Xinglan had been holding back her curiosity but finally asked.

From the way Bear Lord had spoken so gravely, it had to be referring to the forest that still remained where the original Shrek City once stood. The Douluo Federation had never dared to touch it.

"A treasure," Jiang Chen replied casually, smiling lightly though his gaze sharpened. "I asked Bear Lord to look into something back then, didn't expect him to actually find traces of it. But it's not that important."

Ever since they'd left the Spirit Transmission Tower, he'd felt an unfamiliar gaze watching him from the shadows.

"Unfriendly visitors?"

"Who could it be?"

Shrek Academy? The Star Luo Federation? Or perhaps… the Evil Soul Masters?

He reached out naturally, his hand closing around Ye Xinglan's wrist—not a tender gesture, but one firm with command, drawing her closer. "You've been tailing us long enough. I don't exactly have an entourage right now—you still not planning to come out?"

Ye Xinglan was stunned by his sudden closeness and words. Before she could react, Jiang Chen's previously relaxed eyes turned sharp and cold as starlight.

The moment he spoke, figures flickered out from the surrounding shadows—six of them in total, silent and ghostlike!

Clearly, the ambush had been well prepared—their coordination flawless, giving no time to react.

Shhh!

Weapons sliced through the night—black daggers spun through the air, not aimed directly at their bodies, but at several points around them—the ground, dead trees, even the air itself!

A strange pulse of energy exploded outward, weaving into an invisible cage.

The air itself seemed to solidify into iron, crushing down from all directions!

A soul-sealing array!

"Evil Soul Masters!" Ye Xinglan's expression froze.

Instantly, her body felt heavy, her soul power sinking as if into a bottomless abyss. Mobilizing it became impossibly sluggish, like wading through mud.

The suffocating pressure and sudden surge in gravity made her chest tighten. She could barely move—every motion came a beat too late.

She had never encountered such a strange and domineering restriction before!

"Hmph."

A cold chuckle came from one of the masked attackers. His tone was like a cat toying with prey.

At the same time, two others flashed forward, their movements as silent as lightning. Two streaks of black light—like venomous fangs—pierced through the moonlight, aimed for Jiang Chen's back and Ye Xinglan's throat.

Each strike was deadly, fast, merciless.

This was not a warning. It was an execution—swift, coordinated, and absolute.

Evil Soul Master assassins?

Ye Xinglan's pupils shrank as she felt death closing in.

Her energy suppressed, her body heavy—there was no time for defense!

Just as the cold edge was about to touch her skin—

Buzz!

A strange pull came from her wrist—Jiang Chen yanked her backward with effortless strength, pulling her out of the dagger's fatal arc.

The icy murderous intent brushed past her neck, leaving goosebumps across her skin.

At that same instant, a surge of dark energy erupted beside her!

ROAR!

A deep, indistinct dragon's roar echoed in the night!

Jiang Chen's "Abyssal Calamity Scales" battle armor instantly enveloped his body, and behind him, the shadow of the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger manifested.

A single roar from that terrifying beast sent the attackers staggering backward!

Jiang Chen released his full power—the repression vanished. His soul level, once fifty-nine, burst past to sixty-one instantly, no longer pretending otherwise.

And the armor was no mere decoration.

The two-word armor's runes burned as its black light flared—not contained this time, but spreading outward into a tangible domain that crushed against the soul-sealing array.

The draconic patterns across the armor's plates rippled like a living abyssal creature baring its fangs!

CLANG! CLANG!

Two deafening clashes of metal tore through the night!

The daggers meant for Jiang Chen's heart rebounded off the thickened plates protecting his core, while the one aimed at Ye Xinglan's former position glanced off the serrated edge of his shoulder guard, sparking violently!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The shockwaves rattled the air. Jiang Chen's body barely shuddered before stabilizing again. But the two assassins were forced back, their wrists numb, weapons almost flying from their hands.

Disbelief filled their eyes—two trained killers, empowered by a suppression array, couldn't even force their target back a single step?

Was this really a Soul Emperor's strength? Impossible!

The six Soul Saints exchanged uncertain glances, suddenly questioning their reality.

"A… two‑word battle armor?!"

The masked leader gasped, his voice trembling with shock—and a trace of greed and regret.

The instant his allies faltered, Jiang Chen sneered.

"Oh? Since when did Evil Soul Masters start thinking they could mess with me?"

He opened his palm and reached out casually toward one of them.

A strangled scream ripped the silence—then the target exploded midair into a cloud of blood, scattering like fireworks.

"Pathetic."

Jiang Chen shook his head. The Evil Soul Masters these days were far weaker than their predecessors.

Few of them possessed battle armors.

No matter how fast their strength grew through vile methods, armor could bridge—and even overturn—that gap.

"You didn't bother to investigate who I am?" His voice was low, almost mocking. "Only six Soul Saints? The Holy Spirit Cult really does underestimate people."

He sighed, disappointed.

He'd thought it might be an exciting fight.

But it turned out to be a group of trash.

"I'll give you one chance," he said coldly. "Tell me—why are you here to assassinate me?"
