Chapter 47: Tang Ya — Bei Bei, You've Let Me Down!

She felt that Ye Chen truly understood her—what she wanted, what she needed.

"I'm the vice master of the Tang Sect. Helping the honorable Sect Master with her troubles is my duty~" Ye Chen said gently, patting Tang Ya's back as he comforted her.

"Hmph, seems I didn't misjudge you~" Tang Ya's cheeks flushed slightly, clearly pleased by his words.

The two stayed like that for a while before Ye Chen softly pushed her away.

"Sister Xiao Ya, that's enough for today. Let's head back." He spoke with a calm smile.

Because he had noticed—her arms were holding him tighter and tighter, and her nose had started brushing against his neck.

He wasn't ready for that kind of situation yet.

No, correction—he wasn't ready to steal Bei Bei's girl.

Mu En, that old monster, was still alive.

For now, Ye Chen could only keep his distance and remain "friends" with Tang Ya.

Otherwise, if Bei Bei ran to Mu En whining, he might actually be in danger.

Mu En was not someone to trifle with.

And really, it wasn't Tang Ya's fault her feelings for Bei Bei were fading—it was Bei Bei himself.

Too upright, too earnest, too dull.

Mu En's cunning and ruthlessness—Bei Bei hadn't inherited a shred of it.

The old man in his youth had run with Ye Xishui and Long Xiaoyao, infamous names across the continent, feared and respected alike. He'd burned entire clans without blinking.

But Bei Bei, his great-grandson, the so-called prodigy of his generation—hadn't even managed to wipe out a single mid-tier sect after all these years.

No wonder Tang Ya lost faith in him.

In truth, it was no surprise she eventually turned dark in the original story.

Because what Tang Ya wanted, Bei Bei could never give.

...

"Alright."

Tang Ya nodded softly, though a faint shadow of disappointment passed through her heart.

If only she could stay in Ye Chen's arms a little longer.

Being held by him filled her with comfort and safety—something she hadn't felt in so long.

...

"Ah-choo!"

"Damn it, it's been an hour already. Who takes this long just to eat!?"

Outside the Seven Treasure Hotel, Bei Bei let out a sneeze and scowled impatiently.

The hotel's privacy policies were too strict for him to barge in. If not, he would've stormed the room long ago.

He refused to believe they were just "having dinner."

"Hmm, there they are!"

His eyes narrowed as he saw two figures emerging from the entrance—Tang Ya and Ye Chen.

And worse—he noticed how close they walked together.

"Xiao Ya, you should head back first," Ye Chen said politely at the door. "No need for me to see you off."

He waved with an easy smile. Tonight, he still planned to meet Ma Xiaotao—time to raise her affection a bit higher before...

"Alright. Thank you." Tang Ya nodded softly, then turned to leave.

Ye Chen headed in the opposite direction toward Shrek's rear gate—the one that led closest to Sea God Island.

...

In a quiet alley, Tang Ya walked briskly, humming softly to herself.

She felt light—refreshed. Though parting from Ye Chen left a hint of sadness, today had been full of progress: not just in cultivation, but in spirit.

"Xiao Ya!"

A voice rang out from the shadows.

She stopped.

A tall figure stepped out—Bei Bei.

"Bei Bei? What are you doing here...? Wait, were you following me?"

Her face darkened immediately.

So he had been tailing her—that could mean only one thing. He didn't trust her.

"Xiao Ya, what were you doing with Ye Chen?" Bei Bei demanded, eyes bloodshot and voice trembling.

"We were just having dinner. Do you have a problem with that?" Tang Ya frowned, impatience creeping into her tone.

"It took over an hour to eat dinner!?" Bei Bei snapped. "Xiao Ya, just tell me the truth! Did you do something with him behind my back?!"

A sharp slap! echoed down the alley.

Bei Bei froze as Tang Ya's hand met his cheek, his head ringing from the blow.

"Bei Bei, I never thought you'd see me that way," Tang Ya said coldly, tears of fury welling up in her eyes. "I'm so disappointed in you!"

Without another word, she turned and walked away.

Bei Bei stood there, stunned and speechless.

In that single instant, he saw everything crumble.

She didn't even look back.

His chest ached—she truly hated him.

He'd never seen her like this before.

All because he couldn't trust her.

"Xiao Ya… wait, please—I didn't mean it like that…"

Bei Bei chased after her, his voice breaking as tears formed.

He had already realized his mistake.

Tang Ya's appearance—her clothes, her demeanor—none suggested anything inappropriate had happened. He'd let jealousy blind him.

Normally, he trusted her completely.

But her recent closeness with Ye Chen had eaten away at his reason—until the words left his mouth before he could stop them.

"Xiao Ya… I was wrong…" He clung to her hand, his voice trembling in desperation.

"Let go. Stop bothering me. Maybe I am the kind of woman you think I am," Tang Ya said bitterly, shoving him away.

There was nothing left but disappointment in her eyes.

For the first time, a fleeting thought crossed her mind—

Maybe a break was exactly what they needed.

"Xiao Ya… I can't live without you… I was wrong, I was so wrong…" Bei Bei's voice cracked as tears rolled down his face.

In this world, love was pure and sincere—especially among the young.

To Bei Bei, Tang Ya wasn't just his girlfriend—she was his whole world.

And now that world had shattered.

"Go away."

Tang Ya tore free of his grip and ran, never once looking back.

"No! Xiao Ya!"

"My Xiao Ya—!"

Bei Bei collapsed to his knees, clutching his head, sobbing uncontrollably.

This wasn't Shrek Academy's young prodigy Bei Bei anymore—just a boy with a broken heart, lost and helpless.

The more innocent a love, the more it consumed.

He had fallen hard at first sight, certain she was his soulmate.

He had even imagined a life with her—marriage, children, everything.

Now that dream had been smashed to dust.

Bei Bei wanted nothing more than to slap himself, over and over.

Why had he said such things?

How could he accuse the one person who loved him so deeply?

He had wounded her to the core.

"What have I done…"

Bei Bei's voice cracked as he cried harder, not caring about onlookers or pride.

Right now, there was only one thought in his mind—

He had to win her back. Somehow.

Without Tang Ya, he couldn't breathe. He couldn't live.

Not even for a single day.
