Chapter 57 - Chapter 57 Forced path

The battle in the clearing ended as quickly as it had begun.

Minato stood amidst the fallen Iwa ninjas, not a single hair out of place, while Kakashi sheathed his sabre with a crisp click.

Lucifer, however, was focused on the internal fire burning in his gut. His chakra pathways were screaming—the civilian-grade "pipes" were expanding rapidly to accommodate the Hakai No Ken's demands.

"Not bad, Lucifer-san," Minato said, as he leaned against a tree, watching the young man with an analytical tilt of his head.

"That pressure-drop technique... it's not Ninjutsu, but it's definitely not standard Taijutsu. You're a weird one."

Lucifer let out a long breath, a plume of steam escaping his lips despite the humid forest air.

"I get that a lot. Usually from people who are about to lose a limb."

He looked over at Rin, who was already moving toward Obito to check a shallow scratch on his arm.

"Hey, Medic. You got a second? My insides feel like I swallowed a bunch of hot needles."

Rin blinked, her kind eyes widening.

"Oh! Of course. That's likely chakra strain from forcing your network too hard."

Over the next few days, as the team made their way toward the Kannabi Bridge waypoint, Lucifer made a point of sticking close to Rin.

He didn't want to learn how to heal a scraped knee; he wanted to understand the delicate architecture of the Tenketsu—the 361 pressure points that governed the flow of chakra.

"Look, Rin,"

Lucifer said one evening by the fire, his tone casual and loose, leaning back against a mossy log.

"I'm not looking to be the village doctor. I want to know how you guys sustain the flow without blowing your own veins out. My network is... well, it's a work in progress."

Rin sat cross-legged across from him, her hands glowing with the soft green light of the Mystical Palm Technique.

"It's about rhythm, Lucifer-san. You're treating your chakra like a battering ram. You need to treat it like a river. If the river hits a dam, it overflows. You have to guide it."

She placed her hands on his shoulders, sending a cooling pulse of energy through his system. Lucifer's Fundamental Insight flared.

He wasn't just feeling the relief; he was recording the precise vibration of her medical chakra. He saw how she smoothed the jagged edges of his pathways, widening them through gentle, constant pressure rather than the violent bursts he had been using.

"So, it's about expansion through lubrication, not just force,"

Lucifer mused, his mind already calculating.

"If I can mimic that vibration with my Ki, I can artificially widen the 'pipes' without waiting for combat to do it for me."

[Skill Integration: Medical Insight]

* Effect: Allows for "Forced Pathway Expansion" (Permanent +5 Chakra Capacity per hour of meditation).

* Cost: Extreme physical pain and 50% HP reduction during the process.

"Exactly!"

Rin smiled, though she looked a bit concerned at how quickly he was turning a healing art into a training method.

"But you have to be careful. If you push too fast, you'll burn out permanently."

As they sat there, Rin's eyes drifted toward Kakashi, who was sitting further away, obsessively sharpening his blade in the moonlight.

The pained, longing look on her face was obvious to anyone—especially someone with Lucifer's Basic Empath and Fundamental Insight.

Lucifer let out a dry, short laugh.

"You're wasting your time looking that way, you know."

Rin jumped, her face flushing a deep crimson.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about! I was just making sure the Team Captain was... ready."

"Sure you were,"

Lucifer said, his voice dropping into a more intimate, conversational tone.

He leaned in a bit, his eyes reflecting the orange glow of the campfire.

"Listen, Rin. Kakashi is a genius, sure. But he's a genius who's currently obsessed with rules and his own shadow. He doesn't see you. Not the way you want to be seen."

He gestured with his chin toward Obito, who was currently struggling to build a tent, grumbling to himself about how he'd be Hokage one day.

"If I were you,"

Lucifer continued casually,

"I'd spend more time looking at the goggle-kid. Obito."

Rin looked over at Obito, then back at Lucifer, completely confused.

"Obito? But he's... well, he's Obito. He's clumsy, he's always late, and he's constantly picking fights with Kakashi."

"He's also the only one in this group who would burn the world down just to keep you smiling,"

Lucifer said, his tone turning strangely prophetic for a moment.

He knew the future—the "Eye of the Moon," the "Infinite Tsukuyomi," all born from the loss of the girl sitting in front of him.

"Kakashi follows the law. Obito follows his heart. In a war like this, the heart is a hell of a lot more reliable."

Rin stared at him, the green light in her hands flickering.

"Why are you telling me this? You just got here."

Lucifer shrugged, standing up and stretching his sore limbs.

"Let's just say I've seen what happens when people realize they loved the wrong person too late. It's messy. Very messy. Besides, Obito's chakra is erratic because he's trying to impress you. If he stops worrying about that and starts focusing on something else, he might actually survive the next week."

Rin didn't answer. She looked over at Obito, who had finally gotten the tent to stay up and was now beaming with pride, waving her over.

For the first time, she didn't look for Kakashi's approval first. She simply stood up and walked toward the Uchiha.

"Lucifer?"

She called back.

"Yeah?"

"You're a very strange Ronin."

Later that night, while the team slept, Lucifer sat in the shadows. He began the "Forced Pathway Expansion" Rin had inadvertently taught him.

He vibrated his Ki at a high frequency, forcing it through his civilian chakra network.

The pain was white-hot. It felt like liquid lead was being poured through his veins.

His Gamer's Mind worked overtime to suppress the urge to scream, keeping his face a mask of cold indifference while his body trembled.

[Chakra Capacity: 40 / 40 -> 65 / 65]

[HP: 15,000 -> 7,500]

He felt the change immediately. The "heaviness" of the world was lifting. He could feel the ambient chakra in the trees, the ground, and the air. His Hakai No Ken was no longer just a physical strike; it was becoming a conceptual one.

"Getting stronger,"

He whispered to the dark.

"But the bridge is coming. And Minato is too fast for me to follow yet."

He looked at his status. His HP was low, but his Gamer's Body was already ticking it back up as he rested.

He was becoming a hybrid of two worlds—a Martial Arts Master with the energy reserves of a Shinobi.
