Chapter 220 - Chapter 220: Is That All?

Only when the jackal-man focused its attack on her, with that murderous intent completely undisguised, did Bella realize this strange fellow was an enemy.

A dog's head on a human body? She really wanted to say, Professor Miles, you certainly know how to have fun!

The jackal-man's speed wasn't slow, but that was compared to Professor Miles Warren. Actually, limited by muscle and skeletal structure, it could only achieve the speed of an ordinary human special forces soldier. In Bella's eyes, it was incredibly slow.

She easily sidestepped the claw strike, pressed her right hand on the jackal-man's waist and pushed down while simultaneously raising her left foot high, then forcefully stomping on its neck, pinning it beneath her foot.

She used tremendous force, and she'd stomped on the base of the neck. The jackal-man didn't even manage a grunt before passing out.

Seeing Professor Miles Warren's shocked expression, Bella smiled rather smugly: "Call the police? The FBI? What would you call them for? Professor Warren, do you have some urgent matter?"

What urgent matter could I have? The one with urgent matters is under your boot!

The middle-aged professor's mouth gaped wide, his eyes full of astonishment. His carefully crafted jackal-man had been defeated so easily by a random passerby?

At this time, Miles Warren hadn't yet developed his later obsession with Gwen Stacy, didn't know Peter Parker, and hadn't killed his colleague. His evil personality had some signs due to long-term mad experiments, but it was far from emerging. He was still a normal person.

He was a bit scared now. In his heart, Bella seemed more terrifying than the jackal-man just moments ago.

"Professor Warren, I came with sincerity, wanting to hire you to conduct scientific research."

Bella stated her purpose, then like kicking aside a small animal, casually kicked the unconscious jackal-man to the side.

This ferocious monster bled from nose and mouth. Even in its unconscious state, the nerves in its limbs still twitched reflexively. Clearly, it was badly injured.

Miles Warren wasn't a doctor, but his understanding of the jackal-man exceeded anyone else's in the world. With just one glance, he could tell this test subject's spine was seriously injured. Whether it could recover to its original state depended on God's will.

He very much wanted to firmly refuse, then kick Bella out, but he truly didn't dare.

Madness also depended on the target. Facing a tiger or lion barehanded—who could act crazy? There was only one Joker, and that one was mostly cheating. Normal people couldn't reach that level.

"You, you want me to... want me to research what?" Warren asked anxiously.

Bella's answer was both expected and reasonable for him.

"Bio-humans, bioweapons. Of course, in the future we'll also involve human cloning and organ cloning."

Miles Warren stood up shakily. Seeing that Bella made no aggressive moves and seemed quite reasonable, he gently patted his wife and child's shoulders, having them return to their room.

The woman named Monica didn't dare raise her head, clutching their six-year-old son. The two retreated to the room fearfully, then gently closed the door.

Though it was just a fragile wooden door, in Professor Miles Warren's heart, it added an indescribable sense of security.

He forced himself to calm down, not looking at the badly injured jackal-man, but carefully examining Bella.

For someone his age, the first reaction when looking at people was judging age.

So young! Youth meant unreliability, at least in the minds of many middle-aged and elderly people.

Miles Warren inwardly preferred sweet-looking, gentle, considerate women. His current wife was this type, and after his wife's death, the Gwen Stacy he encountered was also this type. But Bella? Just from her kicking the jackal-man into serious injury, you could tell she had nothing to do with sweet or considerate...

"Um... I need to think about it." He was using a delaying tactic, planning to first fool Bella into leaving, then take his wife and child to escape New York and hide somewhere far away.

Bella naturally wasn't that foolish. Without using mind reading, just from the other party's expression, she could detect some clues. This guy was putting her off.

Between the Apple of Eden's brainwashing and persuasion, she still chose the latter.

Using the Apple on Smash was because Smash himself was a villain, while she considered what she was doing to be good deeds.

Using the Apple now to brainwash Miles Warren would cross a line for her. She still wanted to handle things more civilly.

"Professor, I've read your papers..."

Hearing this, Miles Warren's nose gave a soft snort, full of disdain. You understand them? Don't kid yourself!

Biology and archaeology were worlds apart. He didn't recognize Bella at all and didn't believe she could have high achievements in biology.

Actually, Bella truly didn't understand biology and had no energy to study it. Before coming, she'd hastily skimmed some materials, roughly learning some terminology. How much she actually understood? No idea!

Her not understanding didn't matter—the Apple of Eden understood!

Using the Apple to scan Miles Warren's papers, she picked out over thirty errors.

She selected sections with errors and compiled them into a booklet, which she now handed over: "I'll come back again."

She turned to leave.

Miles Warren seemed to think of something, hesitating as he pointed at the corner.

Bella walked over and grabbed the jackal-man by the scruff of its neck: "You want me to kill this guy?"

Miles Warren couldn't quite bear to watch this scene. He feared Bella would suddenly reveal a bloody maw and bite off the jackal-man's head, while also fearing this creature with his own genes would suddenly wake up and then slaughter everyone in sight.

His voice was full of regret: "This is a failed... failed creation... should be, should be destroyed. Preferably in that kind of... that kind of..."

Bella patiently listened to him speak. In her memory, this professor should have quite a decisive, quite mad personality. He'd cloned a whole bunch of Spider-Men. Why was he so wishy-washy now?

"Fine, fine, fine. I understand. You want me to dispose of it cleanly, right? Simple."

Ice crystals emerged from her palm. She thrust fiercely toward the jackal-man's heart, then quickly withdrew. A palm-sized hole appeared in the jackal-man's chest. Its vitality was quite tenacious—its limbs twitched for several seconds before it finally died.

Bella dispersed the psychic energy in her palm. The ice turned to water. Not a trace of blood stained her clean hand.

"It's already dead. You dispose of the body yourself."

Bella left gracefully. Miles Warren, like a deranged serial killer dismembering bodies, pulled out a handsaw, cut the jackal-man's corpse into eight pieces, then packed them in bags, drove to his laboratory, and tossed them into the incinerator. After burning for an hour, he finally put a complete end to this matter.
