Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: “Thunder” Ross

Emil Blonsky suffered the first defeat of his professional career.

As a colonel in the British Royal Marines, he was decorated with many achievements, cold and ruthless, an experienced soldier.

Ever since Blonsky was recruited by the American general Thaddeus Ross and joined the operation to hunt down Bruce Banner, his heart had never been able to calm down again.

Thinking back to what happened to the pursuit team he led in Brazil: Large doses of tranquilizer rounds simply could not pierce that monster's skin, and when they switched to live ammunition and continued firing, not only did they fail to injure it in the slightest, they were counter-killed and lost a team member instead.

Blonsky threw out a high-explosive grenade, which landed precisely at the monster's feet.

Thinking that this time he would finally be able to deal some damage to the monster, but after the explosion, the target everyone thought had been taken care of instead pushed dozens of tons of giant beverage cans and charged straight at them like a runaway wild horse.

Two team members were instantly crushed into twisted lumps of flesh beneath the massive iron cans, this scene made even Blonsky, who was used to life and death, sigh involuntarily, "Too tragic!"

The huge iron can was still hurtling toward Blonsky at high speed. He could only muster all the strength in his body to jump aside, narrowly dodging it.

The two giant beverage cans slammed into each other with a thunderous crash.

The drinks splashed everywhere, soaking Colonel Emil from head to toe.

The soda's sweet, fruity smell filled Brown's nostrils, but it could not ease the bitterness in his heart.

Brown had originally thought this mission would just be a simple hunting game. Now it seemed that his own side had instead become the prey.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, firing nonstop at the monster, and then he saw a scene he would never forget in his life:

A face enraged to the extreme, with dark green pupils that sent a chill down one's spine.

While he was still stunned, the Hulk directly lifted a forklift and threw it at him.

Blonsky could not believe his own eyes, a huge forklift was actually thrown over like a ball.

But the whistling wind carried by the flying forklift made Blonsky dare not stay where he was.

Once again using every ounce of strength he had to flee for his life, he finally dodged the forklift's attack.

Brown escaped the fate of being turned into a puddle of minced meat once more.

The Hulk did not continue the pursuit, instead smashing through a wall and running out, leaving behind only a roar that echoed through the entire mountain forest.

Colonel Emil Blonsky, already utterly exhausted just from running for his life, realized that he had finally escaped danger.

He adjusted his breathing on the spot, suppressing the frustration of the failed mission, "Damn it, Ross actually hid information…"

He decided to go find the general and get a clear explanation.

———

Walking behind the adjutant, Corin recalled in his mind the general he was about to meet, Thaddeus "Thunder" Ross.

This was an important figure in the Marvel world.

Ross led the restart of the "Super Soldier Program," attempting to recreate the serum of Captain America from World War II, wanting to build a super army with extraordinary abilities.

He recruited Banner to participate in gamma radiation research, but an experimental accident caused Banner to mutate.

Ross always believed that Banner belonged to the military, and that Banner's blood was key material for making biological weapons.

He did not hesitate to launch a global manhunt, a politician who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

Finally arriving at a temporary command post, seeing the busy soldiers who did not even dare to breathe loudly in front of General Ross, Corin snorted softly,."Tch~ power."

Looking at Ross again, hard facial lines, prominent cheekbones, a sharply defined jaw, highlighting the unique toughness and coldness of a soldier.

Eyes sharp like a hawk's, his gaze often carrying scrutiny and suspicion, as if constantly weighing an opponent's value and threat.

His brows habitually knitted together, forming a distinct "川"-shaped crease. His complexion was dark, with a roughness from wind and sun exposure, and his gray-white hair was sparse yet neatly combed.

His build was solid and imposing. Although slightly hunched with age, he still maintained the upright posture of a soldier.

Corin thought to himself, 'This old guy still looks pretty spirited~'

The adjutant quietly reported a few words beside General Ross. This sharp-minded general finally turned his gaze toward Corin, frowning as if somewhat displeased.

But when the adjutant mentioned that Corin had easily pushed aside several tons of steel, the old general's eyes flickered, and there was a bit more curiosity in his look toward Corin.

After the adjutant left, General Ross glanced at the slender Alyssa, a trace of amazement flashing in his eyes, then swept his gaze up and down over Corin.

"So you're the bounty hunter Fury mentioned… called… what was it again?"

General Ross's authoritative voice rang out, and the command post immediately became even quieter, as if afraid of disturbing the general's conversation.

"Cockroach."

Looking at the outstanding Eastern face before him, Ross recalled that he himself had once been a tough and handsome young man in his youth, and he snorted coldly, "Why didn't you take action when you saw the target? The you that Nick Fury talks about isn't like this."

General Ross braced his hands on the table, staring intently at Corin. The aura of one in power fully erupted, and the command post instantly fell into dead silence.

Corin had, at one time or another, briefly come into contact with some people in high positions, for example delivering food to them.

These people all shared one flaw, that they thought highly of themselves and looked down on others, translated, it meant "good at putting on airs."

But he was no longer that beast of burden at the bottom of society. Even though General Ross's presence had already suppressed Alyssa beside him, Corin's calm expression did not change at all.

"General, no rush. Let's talk about the price first," He spoke lightly.

General Ross seemed to hear something amusing and revealed a trace of disdain.

'You actually dare to talk business with me directly?'

'Who do you think you are?'

'Who do you think I am?'

But recalling the adjutant's earlier report, Ross knew that the person in front of him seemed to have real skill and boldness. The adjutant would not dare lie.

Without responding, he simply stepped out from his seat and looked down at Corin from above, "Show me."

He would never waste any time on a useless person.

Corin knew that the old man in front of him would not act without seeing proof, 'But why should I put on a display for you?'

That was another price altogether, 'Is Nick Fury's recommendation as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. really not enough to explain things?'

Just then, the disheveled Emil Blonsky strode into the command post, and along with him came a sentence, "General, you never said that Banner had such a monster by his side! I need an explanation."

Blonsky could not let go of the failure of this operation. His heart was filled with anger and confusion, placing all the blame on General Ross for concealing information.

An agitated Brown completely ignored the fact that there seemed to be two guests in front of General Ross at the moment.

In his view, if the general had not deliberately hidden it, his comrades would not have died in vain, "If Banner even knew what that monster was, I would have caught him. I would have made him tell me who that monster really is."

"That is Banner…"

General Ross ignored Corin and the other person. In his eyes, Colonel Blonsky was more important. He was the sharp blade in his hand, someone worth explaining things to.

Blonsky's expression froze.

He had originally thought that the mysterious power came from one of Banner's accomplices, but the general's explanation left him utterly shocked.

Blonsky lowered his head and looked at the new automatic rifle in his hands, thinking about how the weapon he had relied on to dominate the battlefield for so many years had failed to play any role at all this time.

He raised his arm, intending to throw the rifle to the ground to vent the intense anger in his heart.

"What use are you then? Hm?"

But when the rifle was halfway through the air, it stopped. It was Corin.

At this moment, Corin steadily caught the weapon that Blonsky was about to smash onto the ground in anger, "Sir, throwing trash around isn't a very good habit."

After speaking, he picked up the rifle and kneaded it in his hands a few times, then accurately tossed it into a trash can several meters away.

The automatic rifle made of composite steel was like a piece of scrap paper in Corin's hands. In just a few motions, it was crumpled into a lump the size of a coffee cup.

Only when it fell into the trash can with a loud bang did the people present realize that this thing had originally been a gun.

"What the f**k?"
