Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Coming to Collect the Money

Corin was in high spirits as he was escorted out of the U.S. military base by soldiers driving a Humvee.

Watching the soldiers, who acted as if they were seeing off a plague god and wanted nothing to do with him, slam the gas and disappear in a cloud of dust the moment he got out of the vehicle.

Corin laughed out loud.

The laughter woke Alyssa, who was beside him.

Accompanying Corin on the trip to Brazil had delivered a massive shock to Alyssa's worldview.

Not to mention witnessing that world-destroying green giant.

The boss's dealings with the military had never hidden anything from her either.

'Two hundred million! OMG!'

She could not help but recall the scene where she had once tried to block the boss over two thousand dollars.

"How did you dare back then… Alyssa!"

Her body shuddered involuntarily. Luckily, the boss had shown mercy back then, otherwise.

She had also witnessed the scene of the military people trying to draw blood from the boss. The sharp needles, in front of the boss's skin, seemed to turn into noodles, unable to break through that seemingly soft skin at all.

"The boss seems stronger than before."

Thinking back to the scene where she had once kicked and broken Corin's arm, Alyssa fell into deep thought.

This was also the reason she had been acting more and more obedient in front of Corin lately.

Corin's suffocating strength gave Alyssa a feeling of looking up at a towering mountain, and at the same time created a sense of distance.

Did she still have the courage to flirt with the boss like before?

Alyssa seriously doubted it.

"Let's go~"

At this moment, Corin's cheerful voice rang out beside her, snapping Alyssa back to her senses.

"The boss will take you to Washington to have a stroll."

Hearing Corin's friendly tone and recalling how he had taken care of her, Alyssa broke into a huge smile, 'Strong is strong, but the boss is still the boss! Mine… ^_^'

Washington, the Triskelion building—

This time, Corin had contacted Nick Fury in advance, so there was no awkward situation like last time, when he had barged into S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters and triggered an agent stress response.

Nick Fury looked at the calm-faced Corin in front of him with a complicated expression and let out a heavy sigh.

General Ross had called him not long ago.

Although he informed him that Corin had successfully completed the military's commission, he absolutely refused to transfer the research funds they had previously agreed on.

He also stated that S.H.I.E.L.D. would no longer be needed as the intermediary between the military and Corin.

"The money's already spent, of course I kick out the middleman. From now on, I'll contact him myself! Hmph~"

General Ross felt his move was perfectly normal.

This completely shattered Nick Fury's plan to make a cut in the middle, "So in the end, I'm the only one who not only gave up Stark's relics, but also got nothing at all?"

Actually, it wasn't just Old Nick who got nothing. Even General Ross, who always plucked feathers from passing geese, ended up with nothing either, and even lost two hundred million.

Looking at Nick Fury's conflicted expression, Corin smiled gently, "Director Fury, it's time to fulfill your promise…"

Nick Fury could only helplessly wave his hand, telling his subordinates to go to the warehouse and bring out all of Howard Stark's relics and hand them over to Corin.

Seeing the box beside him whose color and style looked somewhat familiar, Corin knew that as the head of a major organization, Nick Fury would not break his word.

Thinking of something, he reminded him, "The contents of the promise don't seem to be just this, right?"

"Well…"

Recalling how he had sworn back then to pay a one-hundred-million commission, Nick Fury now put on a painful expression.

'How come General Ross doesn't play by the rules?'

Although upper management had invested quite a bit of funding into his department, he was not a behemoth like the military, able to casually take out one or two hundred million.

With his scheme falling through, Fury was not the kind of person to dwell on it. He knew very well how strong Corin was, and that he absolutely could not, because of a momentary mistake, make a powerful enemy for the entire department.

Gritting his teeth, "The money will arrive as promised!"

———

Downstairs, Alyssa, pulling a suitcase, felt her heart growing stronger and stronger.

Once again, she witnessed her boss casually say a few words and extort… no, ask for hundreds of millions of dollars.

If before, when she saw Corin angrily rake in two hundred million, she would say "OMG!"

Now, seeing big shots promise to transfer one hundred million dollars to Corin, she only wanted to say, "Oh, only one hundred million."

It wasn't that Alyssa was greedy or expecting Corin to share much of the money with her.

Corin already treated her very well, and her salary was more than enough for her expenses.

Just this feeling of seeing the world was enough to make Alyssa shout in delight. At this moment, her eyes sparkled as she looked at Corin, eagerly expecting where the boss would take her next to reap another harvest.

She saw Corin glance at the slightly darkening sky and casually say:

"Alyssa, grab the stuff, let's go get a room."

"Huh?"

Hearing Corin's words, Alyssa's face instantly turned red, her eyes watery as she dared not look at him.

A faint expectation rose in her heart, 'Boss… has he finally figured it out?'

———

Tony Stark had been feeling somewhat exhausted lately.

He had just finished a battle of wits with the military's top brass.

The military held a hearing demanding that he hand over the Iron Man suit and related technology, citing better protection of civilian safety as the reason.

But smart Tony did not buy it at all, and stated that if the country wanted to master this technology, it would need at least another twenty years.

In the end, he even fired back directly, "I am Iron Man. The suit and I are one. Handing over the Iron Man armor is handing over myself."

What a joke. Tony knew exactly what those politicians were scheming. The armor technology that had repeatedly helped him through crises could not possibly be handed over just like that.

Tony thought of the person who had developed a reactor similar to his. That man had once wielded powerful electric whips to attack him at the racetrack, but was defeated by his new armor.

"I need to get this straight," Arriving at the prison, Tony was curious to know why the other party had attacked him.

After listening to Ivan Vanko's account, Tony finally learned of the grudges between their families from the previous generation.

Feeling somewhat guilty, Tony even kindly reminded Ivan how to improve the reactor before leaving.

This was actually Tony, as a descendant of the Stark family, showing that his own scientific research ability was superior.

By nightfall, the toxin level in Tony's blood had reached a terrifying 89%.

Seeing that medicine could no longer save him, Tony simply let himself go completely.

He threw a party, because he felt it might be his last one.

"Yes! That's right, let's just have fun~"

At the party, Tony not only danced wildly in the armor, but also showed everyone how to use the bathroom inside the suit.

To hype things up, Tony even fired repulsor blasts from his palms for entertainment.

But Pepper and Rhodey, who did not know about Tony's poisoning, were extremely angry when they saw this.

Rhodey simply put on the Mark II to stop Tony's reckless behavior.

And facing this final revelry, Tony had no intention of stopping.

The two of them started fighting, all the way from downstairs to upstairs. It looked like they were tearing the house apart, and the seaside villa in California quickly turned into a bare shell.

In the end, the farce ended with a head-on exchange of palm lasers from both sides.

An enraged Rhodey left Tony slumped on the ground and flew off to the Air Force base, deciding to modify the armor.

They brought in Hammer to upgrade the armor's weapons.

The next day, Tony was planning to wander around in the armor. After all, he would not live many more days, so why not enjoy it to the fullest?

Wearing the armor, Tony held a piece of fried chicken, his gaze locking onto a huge donut not far away, planning to lie down inside the hole and enjoy his food.

Jarvis suddenly alerted him that Corin was calling, ["Hey~ Tony! You're not dead yet, right?"]

Corin's hearty voice rang out inside the helmet.

'Annoying guy!'

Tony snorted disdainfully, "Obviously not. I'm extremely happy."

"What do you want? Mr. Silver Duke?"

["Remember that thing I mentioned to you? About helping you deal with the poisoning."]

Tony still did not think Corin had any way to help him, until he heard what came next, ["Your dad, Howard Stark's relics are with me. I'm sure there's something in there you want."]

["The price is negotiable…"]

Tony's spirits jolted. The fried chicken in his hand fell to the ground.

The eyes that had already seen through life and death instantly burst with a light of survival.
