Chapter 1 - transmigration

He had transmigrated.

And the way it happened was raw and simple.

On his way home—having just bought instant noodles and eggs to reward himself for a long week—Y/N suddenly heard the loud blast of a horn behind him. When he turned around, he saw a runaway truck bearing down on him, as if roaring: "Time to reincarnate into another world, boy!"

He was hit hard, sent flying, and couldn't move. Then the truck passed again—crushing him on the spot. Just like that, he transmigrated.

It probably looked like a watermelon getting smashed by a baseball bat. But honestly, Y/N wasn't sure if he really died that painfully. All he knew was that in the last second, he saw the tire fill his vision and heard the screams of the crowd.

Anyway, enough of that. No need to discuss the gore.

In short, after waking up, he discovered that he had replaced someone who looked just like him and bore the same name: Y/N.

It seemed to be a physical crossover rather than just a soul one. His height, build, and even his moles were the same. He was still wearing the exact same clothes he had on before—clothes that still carried the marks of tire treads and dried red-and-white stains. Everything was exactly the same.

"Speaking of which... that mess on my shirt—don't tell me that was my brain?"

After checking the area, Y/N found himself in a two-story house with a small yard. The household's only bank card carried a huge balance, with the password stuck to it on a scrap of paper. The cardholder's name? Y/N L/N.

Digging through documents in the house, he guessed he must have crossed into a parallel world. The original Y/N of this world was practically identical to him, save for being a bit thinner. And just like in the standard webnovel cliché, he had lost his parents early.

Checking a diary he found, Y/N learned the original guy was a dropout who stayed home, living off his savings, playing games and watching anime. Basically, a loner with no social life.

"Seriously, writing a diary is a huge security risk," he muttered.

After checking the house and understanding the situation, Y/N couldn't help but sigh while holding the diary.

In any case, there was probably no going back.

Since he had been swapped out and there was nothing he could do, he might as well live on in this new role.

And really, looking at his new circumstances—no parents, no family, no social ties, a fat bank account, and even a house—it all seemed just a little too perfect.

"Could it be that I'm actually the protagonist of a novel now?"

Y/N—who in his previous life was a hardcore strategist gamer and analyst—couldn't help letting his imagination run wild.

"Well then, generally speaking, a transmigrated protagonist is supposed to get some kind of cheat. Let me think... if this were a typical setup, it would probably be a System. So then... is there a System? System, are you there? Hello?"

He tried calling out in various tones and poses, but received no response at all. Just himself, standing there in the middle of the room like an idiot.

"All right then, looks like there's no System. At least for now, this is a pure slice-of-life setting with no cheats. That's fine too. Fighting and killing gets tiresome—a peaceful life is the real way to live."

Finally realizing how stupid he looked, Y/N coughed lightly and stopped. He walked upstairs to the second floor, to the gaming room. He turned on the computer and began searching for news and basic knowledge of this world, trying to understand his new environment.

By the way, although Y/N could understand English in his previous life, he realized he now understood every language perfectly. French, Arabic, anything—he could speak them flawlessly.

"So that's it—my cheat must be the ability to speak every language in the world?"

Somehow, this didn't feel all that useful...

But for now, there was no need to dwell on that. After carefully investigating, Y/N confirmed that this world wasn't all that different from the one he came from. Overall, it still seemed to be a peaceful, everyday world.

No news reports of monsters, no secret organizations, no aliens. The sun wasn't dying. It looked completely normal.

Well... though it was possible there were secret things at work, on the surface, it seemed like a world where ordinary people could live in peace.

With that in mind, Y/N checked domestic news in Japan—and there, bold on the screen, he came across the name: Shuchiin Academy.

Shuchiin—wasn't that the setting of Kaguya-sama: Love is War? That famous romance anime?

"Got it. I've crossed into a 2D world!"

Y/N had to admit, he was getting a little excited now.

He kept searching and found the Shinomiya Group. That was enough to be sure. This world was a mix of different series.

"No—not enough to draw a conclusion yet. Better investigate further."

He checked for other schools. No results for some, but he found an Arts University. He saw "Guitar Hero" trending online.

"So it's a crossover universe. Specifically the slice-of-life kind."

Shutting down the computer, Y/N sat back in his chair, sinking into thought.

First of all, his parents had died early, and he'd transmigrated into another world—replacing someone identical to himself.

Now he had a language cheat, a small villa, and a huge bank balance to ensure he would never lack food or shelter. And since the person he replaced had practically no social circle, the obstacles he'd face were minimal.

And then this world turned out to be full of anime girls—very likely one of those slice-of-life crossover universes.

Didn't that mean he was destined to be the protagonist of a harem series?

"Wow... the more I think about it, the more this new life actually seems worth looking forward to."

Already, he was imagining himself as the main character, picturing all sorts of scenarios.

But that was for later. Right now, the most important thing was to get a full handle on this house.

He had already grasped the basics of the inside. But out in the yard, there was still a small shed that looked like it was used for storage, and he hadn't checked it yet. He decided to take a look.

After that, he would head out for a walk to get a sense of his neighbors. In short, he needed to gather all the information he could. For Y/N, this was second nature. Even in his previous life, before playing any game, he would always read the guide first
