Chapter 13 - A Face off!!

I never thought I'll have someone for whom I'll change myself completely.....

  .....AT THE CLASS...

Ashtine's POV

Mrs. Wilson enters the class.

"Good morning dear students and I'm really sorry that I couldn't make it to the class yesterday.", said Mrs. Wilson.

All the students said Its okay Ma'am!

"However I did send one of my favorite students to your class. He's such a gem.", said Mrs. Wilson.

All the students looked at each other in shock. Out of them I was the one with the most astonishment. This jerk who is such a flirt is Mrs. Wilson's favorite student!! How? Why? How is it possible even?

"There must be a reason Ash! Don't look so surprised. Ma'am would ask you if you are feeling okay if you keep that expression for two more seconds.", said Arin looking at me.

I was in shock and my facial expressions were enough to tell that. I suddenly turned normal as told by Arin and focused again on Ma'am.

"So today I would like to know who's your favorite author and why?", asked Mrs. Wilson.

I was dying to tell mine and had a complete paragraph of description. Its just that I was a bit nervous. I wanted others to first tell theirs and then I would say.

Ma'am listened to every one's answer attentively and she seemed enjoying the session. I was happy too. And now I gathered much confidence to tell my part. I raised my hand and Ma'am asked me to tell my favorite author.

"JANE AUSTEN!! My favorite author. I love all her novels and Pride & Prejudice being the most favorite one. I love her for her witty and realistic novels emphasizing women and feminism. Her creations are still relevant after three centuries and it is an achievement in itself.", I told the class.

"Wonderful Ashtine!! I love the way you portrayed her.", said Mrs. Wilson.

Just as I was feeling happy with mam's appreciation, a similar voice replied, "But ma'am wasn't Miss Austen's works arrogant and self-centered?"

All the students suddenly looked at the class's entrance and saw the person. It was HIM.

"What brings you here Chris?", asked Mrs. Wilson.

"Nothing just to inform you that HOD sir has scheduled a meeting in five minutes. He asked me to inform you.", Chris replied.

"Oh, Okay. Thanks.", Mam replied.

Is he mentally unstable? How can someone be so arrogant to call such a classic and renowned author arrogant?

"Alright class it was a good session today. I enjoyed all your answers. We'll resume our class tomorrow.", Mrs. Wilson said and left.

Chris looked at me, winked and left too.

"Can you imagine? This jerk who is so full of himself calling Austen's works as arrogant.", I talked while leaving the class.

"This guy's got guts!!", replied Josh.

"Don't pay any attention to him. He liked offending you.", Arin replied.

We left the class and went to the cafeteria.

I took my plate and took some rice and fruits. We three sat at a table when I heard someone talking from behind to me. It was Laila and one of her friends.

"You got a minute?", she asked me.

Why is this girl coming to talk to me? We merely just met once and now she's calling for me.

"What is it?", I asked her.

Arin and Josh were looking at us.

"Chris is mine. He likes playing with new toys and you are nothing but a mere new attraction which he will forget in a few days. Don't get your hopes up.", she said rudely.

Are you kidding me? Who the hell you think you are to talk to me like that? I got so angry and wanted to smash my plate on her face.

"I have no interest in Chris. You better keep him to yourself.", I replied.

"Hahaha!! This bookworm can talk Liz.", Laila laughed as she talked to her friend.

"Good for you Ashley or Ash.. whatever your name is. Its better you stay away from Chris.", Laila said and left.

Arin just stood up to punch her but I stopped her. It was no use talking to her. She had no reason to tell me those things. I was upset. I didn't know why I was getting dragged into this.

 ..........

Laila's words kept pestering me the rest of the day. I didn't like the way she talked with me. The things she said to me. I kept wondering. I was about to got to sleep when I heard the door opening. It was Sarah.

"Hey you not sleeping yet?", asked Sarah to me.

Arin was already asleep.

I got up and replied, "No. I'm unable to sleep."

"Is everything alright? Did someone say anything to you?", asked Sarah.

I thought I should tell Sarah everything.

"Hmm, it was Laila. She came to me today and told me to be away from Chris.", I told her.

"This girl is too much!", replied Sarah.

"Is she Chris's girlfriend?", I asked.

"No! They are not in a relationship. Chris never dates. He never had a girlfriend. He just likes to have fun and live casually. Commitments are not his thing. Its just that Laila thinks she has some right over Chris and that he's only supposed to be with her.", Sarah replied.

I was feeling relaxed and impatient at the same time. Relaxed knowing that he is single and sad because he doesn't want to be in a relationship.

"Why is he like this?", I asked Sarah again.

"I don't know much. But I heard from someone that his parents had a terrible relationship and they fought a lot. Chris was little at that time and saw daily fights between his parents. That's why he doesn't believe in love and relationships.", Sarah told me.

I felt a bit sad for Chris. He didn't have a normal childhood. But his story is so similar to mine. I too didn't have a normal childhood and my parents also got separated. Chris was getting difficult to understand day by day. But why do I want to understand him? Why do I feel sad for him? Why?
