Chapter 27 - Immortal Body?

What is that? Akda looked up and saw the enormous sword in the sky. His jaw hung open in disbelief.

That's a sword that can sanction you. Bai Chuan didn't explain much; he didn't know how to.

Then Bai Chuan lunged at Akda with incredible speed, so fast that all anyone could see were afterimages.

Too fast. Akda's eyes widened in shock, and he suddenly felt a surge of power from the blade pushing him backward several meters.

And the strength had grown, too. Akda's face grew grim, and the murderous aura on him thickened.

This is getting more interesting, more and more interesting, he thought, and broke into a狂laugh, wild and unrestrained.

Since coming off the front line, I haven't had a fight this entertaining. Come, defeat me, Bai Chuan, Akda said with inflamed eyes.

It's over, this guy has gone insane. Bakki covered his head with both hands, alarmed.

Don't worry. Trust Bai Chuan. Right now no one present can match him, Shanks remained unusually calm.

As Akda and Bai Chuan's duel grew more intense, Shanks felt worse and worse. He privately swore to himself, I must train harder from now on.

He clenched his fists, tightening with effort.

"Shanks." Bakki suddenly called his name.

"Hm?" Bakki's voice distracted Shanks.

"You will become stronger too."

Hearing that, Shanks paused, then flashed a confident smile. Of course, I'll become stronger, just like the Captain.

Though Bakki usually looked carefree and cowardly, his mind was sharp. After spending so much time with Shanks, he understood better what Shanks was thinking.

In short, Bakki and Shanks understood each other best.

The duel between Bai Chuan and Akda continued, and Bai Chuan clearly held the upper hand at the moment.

At this moment Akda bore no wounds at all; indeed, any injuries he had sustained had already recovered. Akda's chest and back bore huge sword slashes.

Damn it. After a long rampage and lots of blood, Akda finally cooled down a bit. His eyes were still red, but he didn't look as ferocious as before.

Are you not afraid you're Immortal? Akda bit out the words, hardly believing it.

Oh? You're surprisingly smart to figure this out. Yes, I am immortal, Bai Chuan said, finally able to say it openly after so long.

Damn. Although he got the answer he wanted, Akda felt Bai Chuan was lying—his casual tone made it hard to trust.

But Bai Chuan was deeply aggrieved. He confessed with a sense of relief.

You're lying to me. Akda pressed him mercilessly.

Hey, what kind of person are you? Bai Chuan exclaimed in bewilderment. If you don't believe it, why ask in the first place?

There's no such thing as immortality in this world. There must be a limit, and once you break that limit, you'll die too. Akda suddenly thought of something and said aloud.

Is that so? Then I'll test my own limits too.

Honestly, after using all my might, I didn't feel Akda could press me to the limit.

They clashed again, the swords screeching against each other. The sound was harsh, and Akda's occasional shouts punctuated the clash.

Does this guy have a problem with his head? He's already like this and still won't submit, still shouting.

Bakki looked on in confusion.

Who knows? Maybe he really is head-injured, Shanks agreed with Bakki.

In Shanks's view, two kinds of people stay passionate in the face of grievous injury: the hot-blooded ones who feel they won't lose, and then fools. Akda, in their eyes, belonged to the latter.

After more injuries appeared on Akda, he stepped back a few paces to put some distance between himself and Bai Chuan.

Why aren't you pressing forward? Come on, I'm not done yet. Bai Chuan taunted Akda.

But Akda said nothing, simply watching Bai Chuan with extreme caution.

If you're not coming, I'll go to you, Bai Chuan announced.

Wait. Akda suddenly spoke as Bai Chuan was about to act.

Let me have a pass, pretend we never met.

Ha, ha. Hearing Akda's cowardly plea, Bai Chuan burst into laughter.

Watching Bai Chuan laugh, Akda joined in, though his smile looked twisted and ugly.

If we begged now, would you spare us? Bai Chuan didn't answer. He asked a question in return.

There's that. Akda hesitated. Bai Chuan already knew his choice.

No way, so I won't either. Bai Chuan's tone sharpened.

The blood on you is so thick; killing you would be civil duty fulfilled.

If you insist, then I'll pull you into hell with me.

Akda erupted, going all out in an attack that seemed designed to sever Bai Chuan's head.

Ha. A straightforward move, thinking there's no hope left and you've lost your mind?

Bai Chuan shook his head slightly, disappointment or resignation in his expression.

He flew into the air and asked Akda, Have you ever seen a sword technique that comes from the heavens?

Probably not. Then today you will.

Bai Chuan extended his left hand, and a gravity-like force enveloped Akda, immobilizing him.

This move is easy to dodge, so I can only use this method.

Damn, I didn't expect you to control gravity. Akda's words came hard.

There are many things you don't expect. Bai Chuan steadied his blade and descended rapidly, slicing down over Akda's head.

Seeing Akda split in two, Bai Chuan wiped the blood from his blade and spoke with a vainglorious tone: Not very impressive, huh.

With that, the sword above his head dissolved into white light.

The battle in the city was over. Reilly and Roger watched the Damocles Sword vanish from the sky.

Yes, but did you notice a crack appearing on the sword?

Really? I hadn't noticed.

Then I must have been mistaken. Roger said, though he didn't quite believe it.

Was something happening? Roger wondered with a hint of worry.
