It took me three hours to find the guild. The city I landed in was enormous. It was hard to find anything in this utopia, but after asking around, I finally found my destination.
I entered through the giant doors, and to everyone's surprise, no one stopped me. I thought they wouldn't let someone who looked like a penniless rat in. As soon as I entered the Adventurers' Guild, I looked toward the crowd sitting in the huge hall. At the end, receptionists were tending to various adventurers.
Among the crowd, I saw elves, demi-humans, humans, and people who looked like lizardmen.
I approached one of the empty counters, behind which sat a beautiful elf woman with brown hair.
"Excuse me, I wanted to ask how much it costs to register for this guild?" I asked politely.
The receptionist looked me up and down, assessing me. She quickly lost interest, stopping to stare at me, looking at some papers.
"Give it a rest, kid," the elf woman said with an indifferent voice. "First of all, you're young for this. You may be in your prime, but anyone, even a receptionist like me, can tell you're too weak to be an adventurer... And getting back to your question, registration costs 20 silver coins."
Without commenting on anything she'd said about me, I thanked her for the information and walked down the long guild hall, wondering how to get the money.
As I pondered, I unexpectedly arrived at the stands of the stone arena, where I'd seen many other people.
Sitting down in one of the seats in the arena, I gazed upon a battlefield where a rabbit-demi-human girl was currently sword-fighting a tall, muscular man in armor and wielding a two-handed sword.
"System, can I see the stats of that big guy in the arena?" I asked my system as I watched the man push the rabbit-demi-human girl into defense.
[No. The host can't do that. The system rewards you for achievements when you defeat someone or something in a fight with points. Other people in this world develop their skills through training and hard work that takes years. So the host can't see the statistics of others because they don't have a system.] He slowly explained the system in his soulless voice.
"I understand..." I muttered, more to myself than to the system. "There's no way out. Now I have to level up and get those 20 silver coins."
As I was talking to myself, a shadow suddenly appeared above me. This surprised me because the entire arena was illuminated by a large yellow stone on the ceiling. When I looked up, I immediately fell to the ground with a thud. Something struck me and knocked me down.
When I looked up, I saw the same rabbit-demi-human girl who had fought in the arena earlier had fallen on top of me.
"Ouch!" She screamed in a high-pitched voice, clutching her head. "That hurt, Bart-sensei!"
The man in the arena started laughing loudly.
"Ha ha! That was a very important lesson, Lunara. Never think your opponent can't predict your moves. Even after all those lessons, you still fight like a sweet child!"
"Grrrr! You're mean, Bart-sensei!" the rabbit-demi-human girl shouted angrily, sticking her tongue out at the man.
"Ha Ha!!" The man burst into even louder laughter. "Okay. Come here, maybe you can get your revenge and please get off that kid."
The girl, whose name was Lunara and who looked to be about 16, tilted her head slightly in surprise. Then she realized she was sitting on me. She looked at me in fear and quickly got to her feet. Her face flushed with embarrassment.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! You're okay!" She bowed nervously, and I didn't know what to say.
It was a bit awkward for me. This lovely girl bowed to me in a gesture of apology, shouting so loudly that everyone else in the stands and a few other Adventurers in the arena watched the scene with amusement.
When the girl finally stopped bowing, she looked into my black eyes with her blue, clear lake eyes.
"Are you okay?" she asked me in a charming voice, bringing her face closer to mine.
"Yes, I'm okay," I said, standing up. I managed to keep my composure and not blush as the girl's face approached mine. "You'd better go; your teacher is waiting for you."
Lunara nodded, apologized again, picked up her rapier from the ground, and returned to the arena.
She's quite a nice girl, I thought to myself. For a few moments, I watched as this demi-human girl with short black hair and With rabbit ears, she practices fencing with her teacher, who definitely didn't give her a head start.
At the moment, I didn't feel like I was even half as fast as her, let alone her teacher. But that's no surprise. I just came into this world and haven't done anything yet. I need to change that as soon as possible and get stronger!
I wasted no time leaving the Adventurers' Guild and began exploring the city, hoping to find a certain place.
After half an hour of searching, I finally found the city library.
Yes, I know, the most interesting thing I could do right now would be to leave the city, find a powerful monster, and quickly level up. And although it's my dream to become the strongest in the world, blindly wandering this unfamiliar world could prove to be my undoing.
To become a champion of this world, I must first learn what species live here and what powerful individuals live here. I must understand the rules of this world, and even master the usually tedious politics.
Although I never liked learning boring things at school, I decided that this type of learning could be very interesting.
So I went inside the library.
