Chapter 10 - Matrimony

The dizzying plunge from the 50th floor ended with a heavy, controlled thud on the reinforced steel roof of an abandoned railway warehouse three blocks from the Wavu towers. Idan's calculated momentum and superhuman grip on the exterior cables had slowed their descent just enough.

Eshe Ego, heart hammering, scrambled off him. She was scratched, her designer gown was ruined, but she was alive, held and protected by the most terrifyingly competent man she had ever met.

Idan, however, was already moving. He led her into the gloom of the warehouse, his strategic mind already several steps ahead of the police sirens that were now converging on the Wavu complex.

He bypassed a section of rusted cargo containers and opened a heavy, disguised steel door, revealing a small, surprisingly well-equipped space: The Sanctuary. It was a fortified, underground workshop, soundproofed and equipped with advanced surveillance monitors, comms gear, and a makeshift, military-grade first aid kit. It looked less like a hideout and more like a minimalist command center.

Eshe looked around, the last vestiges of her privileged reality melting away. "This is... your home?"

"One of them," Idan confirmed, checking the monitors for approaching threats. "It's secure. They're looking for a murderer, not a man who comes prepared."

The adrenaline faded, replaced by raw emotion. Idan was applying an antiseptic to a deep graze on her arm.

"The drug. P-21, 'Itch'," Eshe began, her voice steady now. "I read the documentation. I understand what you did that night. It wasn't... extortion. It was life-saving. You are not a criminal."

"I am a man of principle, Eshe," Idan replied, his dark eyes meeting hers. "I took what was mine and I protected it. That is my code."

Eshe's eyes welled with tears, but she didn't cry. Instead, she produced the crumpled legal document from her clutch—the affidavit.

"Chike forced me to sign this. I told them you attacked me. I lied," she confessed, her voice thick with shame. "I was a scared pawn. I betrayed you."

Idan took the paper, studying the signature with cold understanding. "Chike fights with documents. I fight with truth. This is not a betrayal; it is leverage. You are an Ego, Eshe. You fight back."

He stood up, his towering presence filling the small space. "They have framed me for murder. I cannot fight the entire state's legal system, not in this era we are. But the Ego family is not fighting for justice; they are fighting for reputation."

Idan walked to his comms station, his movements slow and deliberate as he outlined the grand strategy.

Idan's Strategic Analysis (The Win Condition):

The Ego's Weakness: The Ego brand (Wavu) cannot withstand three simultaneous scandals: A) The P-21/Itch drug, B) The frame-up of a murder suspect, and C) The public knowledge that the heir, Chike, coerced the victim (Eshe) to sign a false police affidavit, amounting to perjury and witness manipulation.

The Objective: Force Chike and Titi to choose the least damaging option. The least damaging option is accepting the marriage to avoid the legal fallout of A and C.

The Weapon: The only way I can ensure a fair fight, protect myself from murder charges, and formalize our relationship is for Eshe to be protected by marital privilege and to use her testimony against the family.

Idan turned to Eshe, a fierce intensity in his gaze.

"They think they can destroy me with a murder charge.

"I will destroy them with honor."

He took a high-quality photo of the affidavit Eshe had signed. He then compiled the affidavit image with the P-21 documents she had brought, creating a digital package.

"We are going to leak this to the largest independent news platform in the country," Idan announced. "We will give them enough to prove the family's media blackout and Chike's coercion, but we will hold back the full P-21 files."

Idan recorded a short, sharp audio message, placing it over the leaked documents.

"This is Idan Odogwu. The man Wavu Industries calls a murderer. The attached documents prove two things: One, the Ego family is sitting on evidence of a deadly, illegal drug. Two, the heir, Chike Ego, coerced his sister, Eshe Ego, into signing a false police affidavit claiming I am a blackmailer, to protect their name."

"Eshe Ego is now with me. She is safe and under my protection. I made a solemn vow to her family: I would take responsibility. I would marry her."

"Wavu Industries and the Ego family have a choice: Drop the murder charges, cease all hostilities, and publicly agree to the marriage settlement, or I release the full P-21 documentation and Eshe Ego's testimony on the attempted frame-up to the world's media. Choose the scandal of a son-in-law, or choose complete corporate destruction."

He timed the leak to hit the news cycle just as the police finished clearing the Wavu towers. He sent the package off with a single click.

Eshe watched him, awe-struck. He had just leveraged a coerced signature and his own reputation as a wanted man into the most powerful negotiating tool imaginable.

"What if they don't choose the marriage?" Eshe whispered.

Idan turned, the conqueror's smile returning. "Then we run. But they will choose the marriage, my wife. Because Chike cares more about his succession than his sister's dignity. And he cannot become the CEO of a ruined empire."
