Noax looked at his children.
Brave Sun was a monster of fire and bone.
Starry Wisdom was a witch of ice and shadow.
"I have failed," Noax whispered. "I gave you parts of myself, but I did not give you the whole."
He looked at his body. It was fading. The Solitude was returning to claim him.
"I cannot let you destroy the world," Noax said.
He made a choice. He initiated the Great Sacrifice.
"I am the Sky!" Noax shouted.
His body expanded. It grew larger than the mountains.
"I am the Earth!"
His flesh turned to soil. His bones turned to metal.
"I am the Law!"
His will became the gravity that binds the stars.
He exploded.
The explosion blew Brave Sun and Starry Wisdom apart.
Brave Sun was thrown into the day, becoming the Sun.
Starry Wisdom was thrown into the night, becoming the Moon.
They were separated forever, destined to chase each other but never touch.
