He noticed something terrifying.
He studied the geology of the mountains. They were made of layers of ash. He dug deep. He found a layer of ash. Below that, another layer of ash. Below that, another.
He counted Nine Layers.
"The world has ended nine times," Neo whispered. "Nine Noaxes. Nine Rens. Nine Apocalypses."
"We are not the first. We are the Tenth."
He looked at the Mechanical Sun. It was wobbling. The clockwork was breaking down. The cycle was ending again.
