Chapter 4 - Flirting Can Illuminate any Situation

Flirting Can Illuminate any Situation

Amber Ann and Dan's house was huge—a three-story affair with their master suite on the top floor, taking up the entire footprint of the structure.

Dan and Jessica sat on the ground floor in the main living room. It was an open room whose ceiling was the floor of the master suite. The first floor had balconies on three of the walls; the fourth wall was a bank of windows that went from the ground floor to the top floor.

Jessica's giggle flowed over the entire edifice as she nuzzled closer to Dan. And he was loving it—the feel and smell of her. It was all filling him up and making his heart swell.

They had both showered and decided to stay up and talk, catching up on the six years they had missed since she had been away. Although Jessica had brought six suitcases with her, she went through Amber Ann's clothes and found a soft tan satin lounge suit to wear. The fabric was continually sliding against Dan as she moved non-stop—like she was unable to get comfortable. She looked up at him, her hand pressed to his chest, and smiled broadly.

"I have truly missed you, Dan. While I was overseas, I often thought about you."

She looked down at his broad chest, her fingers sliding along and twirling the fine hairs.

"I had been wanting to speak to you and know how you were. Mommy always kept me posted, but it was not the same."

She pouted, then giggled coyly.

"You know how I felt about you."

Dan smiled sensually but he didn't speak. His lips parted, moist and inviting, and Jessica leaned in and gently kissed them.

It was a soft, quiet, almost innocent kiss, but it still had Dan feeling like he had done something wrong.

Jessica leaned more into him, then she turned her back to him—his body her full pillow—and began talking to him softly. The entire time she spoke, she touched him, her fingertips tracing geometric shapes on his skin.

"You were my first love. The only man that ever truly interested me." She brought his hand to her mouth and slowly kissed his fingertips.

"You know I have always loved you, Jessica. When we were in college, I thought we would be together forever." He closed his eyes, drinking her in fully.

"We can be. You do not need to travel everywhere I do, but we should be together at least six or eight months out of the year."

His head was spinning. Were they really discussing this, and was it something that could actually happen?

"You and I were meant to be, Dan. I know you are my soulmate. I mean… I know that is corny, but it is true. We were born to be together. You and I both know it."

This time, when they kissed, Dan kissed back. It was long, passionate, and deep. When they pulled back, they were both breathless. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into him. They stayed wrapped in each other for a long moment—nothing between them but a warm, comfortable silence.

Finally, she sat up and looked at him, a look on her face as if she were truly pleased with herself.

"I will bring the rest of my things tomorrow." She looked at the furniture, an odd smile on her face. "We can probably sell these things for a good price, or you can use it to show your houses."

Dan frowned and blinked several times. He had picked most of the furniture in the house. Amber Ann always said she was not good at decorating or didn't have time—and the things she did buy, she bought for him. And he was slowly realizing he loved all of it. He returned his attention to Jessica when she sat up and put a serious look on her face.

"Now. We need to speak about your business." She blew out air. "It is time you grew up, Dan. I know you have over four million followers on one social media site alone, but your head for business is being wasted." She shook her head as if she were willing to compromise.

"I mean, you can keep them as income streams, but 'social media influencer' and 'house flipper' are below you. Hire people to run those things and refocus."

She sat up straighter and pulled her laptop up from somewhere on the floor.

"We can go over the new business model now."

She smiled big, the excitement rolling off her in waves. Inside he was frowning, but outside he smiled just as wide.

He shivered as he listened to these new plans for his life, and he found himself thinking about Amber Ann. She had never dictated. When he decided to do social media, she even suggested incorporating his love of travel. She had said it allowed her to travel with him when she was unable to. He smiled. He had never realized how wonderful that sentiment truly was.

The woman he had been pining over for six years was sitting next to him, and he could only truly think about Amber Ann.
