Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

Upon taking the mission to go whaling for a titanic albino sperm whale. Felix made his way to Hargeon Town, one of the large ports of Fiore. There he met with the crewmate and client, a green horn of the ship of Pequod, Ishmael.

The man wasn't old, but he couldn't be said to be a young man either. If Felix had to give a guess, he is a man in his late twenties at the least.

"So I am supposed to help with capturing and defeating this massive whale?" Felix confirmed.

"Indeed." Ishmael explained.

Felix nodded as he prepared to go see the ship he will be sailing on for the next while. While he wasn't too sure why this man posted such a mission, he wasn't going to dive too deep at this time. It could be simply a lack of a crew, wanting a bit of mental comfort by having a mage on board, or some other reason.

After leaving the small restaurant, Felix went over to the dock where he looked at the large wooden boat he will be sailing on for the next while. It had a main mast over one hundred feet high, with a few smaller ones in front and behind it. The boat height also towered over many smaller boats docked around it.

Besides a ramp, an older man in his mid fifties held a checklist as he barked orders. The man mainly had black hair with streaks of gray appearing in it. Still physically fit, Felix noticed that the man had an ivory peg leg with which he tapped as if annoyed with it.

"That is Captain Ahab. He is currently having the crew load the last of the supplies for the voyage." Ishmael explained.

Felix didn't say anything as he walked towards the captain and client. Upon seeing the man, he could see a hint of madness within the man as his hair is a bit unkempt. There also seems to be anger within his movements and greetings.

"Don't stand in the daze, boy. Help move things so we can sail sooner." Captain Ahab pointed to a stack of creatures.

Felix shrugged and used Giant Magic to enlarge his hand and scooped up the boxes and walked up the ramp. After finding one of the crew members, he placed down the crates in the storage spots.

Once that was done, he began to explore the ship a bit more in depth. From where the crew slept and captain quarters were located. He also began to look at the whaling equipment from the harpoons and rope to the harvesting equipment.

Felix read a book and knew after killing a whale, they would pull it back to the ship and begin harvesting as much as possible before the sharks got to it. The entire whaling job is very dangerous, but also very profitable.

Even setting sail is dangerous due to storms at sea, with the next stage growing more so. Harpooning the whale is very dangerous. This step is very dangerous mainly how close to the whale they must get to harpoon it. For the whale could pull the row boat used to get close under, hit it with its tail shattering the boat or pulling the boat miles and getting them lost.

Once hooked and the whale grows tired, next came the step of killing the large whale. Due to dying it will slap its massive tail repeatedly. After it finally dies, the crew will then need to row it back to the ship. While the blood of the whale will draw sharks.

Then upon getting back to the ship, they will tie large metal chains around the whale and begin harvesting it at sea. Due to the massive size, many ships could not handle or lift the massive creatures on board. It is also during the harvesting if a crew accidentally fell in, they were considered dead as they tended to get attacked by the sharks that came due to the blood.

It took a while with the Captain Ahab doing a rough final check before he barked the order to set sail. Despite many grumbling that they should wait until morning due to how late in the afternoon it is. He didn't listen and told them to do as he says or get off the ship.

Thanks to the money they will get after returning, they just grumbled and moved to get the ship sailing. Due to being a novice on sailing, Felix just stood on the side watching out of everyone's way.

From pulling ropes and the sails lowering. The ship left the port as the crew went to their designated spots. Thus the mission began with Felix sitting on a seat on deck for most of the time.

In the following days, besides studying sailing knowledge with the crew, Felix mainly just watched as everyone moved about the ship. Every twelve hours or so, he would watch a pair climb up to the crow nest to watch for signs of whales.

It is fairly boring, but Felix didn't mind. He just mainly used the down time to meditate as the Guild Master said to build magic reserves. Even with his massive reserves of magic that basically grew faster on its own, since Master Makarov said so, he would do it.

"Felix, what are you doing?" Ishmael asked with a curious look.

"Magic meditation. There are a few ways to increase a mage's magic power and this is one of them." Felix answered.

"What are the other ways?" Ishmael asked.

"The others are working out and using magic until one drains their magic reserves. When the magic recharges, it will increase slightly." Felix explained.

"Is that so?" Ishmael looked amazed at this new knowledge to him.

Due to many not being mages themselves, some things that might be common to mages were unknown to them. Unless someone became interested in magic, many didn't explore the details of magic. Even then, most who are interested end up becoming mages themselves.

Felix just nodded to Ishmael who after learning this carried on with his work. Thus, he returned to the magic meditation to continue increasing his magic reserves.

--

"Thar she blows!"

From atop the mast, a crew member shouted excitedly at the sight. The man nearly jumped out of the crow's nest up there in his excitement. Luckily his partner up there held him before he did as the crew rushed to the side of the ship.

Finally after nearly two weeks of sailing, with a few sightings of whales that were ignored by Captain Ahab. Felix and the crew finally saw it, the titanic white sperm whale Captain Ahab wanted.

It was massive, truly massive as the tail fin seemed almost the side of this ship itself. When the crew cheered as they were going to get a good haul, Felix felt a lingering unease suddenly appear within. Not so much for himself, but due to his past experience on missions where it usually ended in tragedy.

"Ready the whale boats, men. Hurry before it gets away."

Captain Ahab roared as he narrowed his eyes in hatred at the large behemoth. His hands were clenched as his breath seemed to grow deeper.

One after another with a group of six climbing in the boats. Six boats began rowing towards the behemoth in the water. Among them were Captain Ahab and Ishmael with Felix among them as both the Captain and Ishmael pulled him along.

For why they needed to use rowboats to get close to the whale. This is mainly due to the whales sensitivity and hearing. They had to use soft and quick rows to sneak close to the whales. Otherwise, these whales would swim away before they got close enough to launch a harpoon at them.

Naturally, this included the titanic whale they were heading towards.

"The tail looked bigger in the distance." a crew member murmured softly.

"That's because this is a different whale." Felix murmured softly.

When Felix's words left his mouth, a giant head burst from the water. A few deep scars could be seen on its head alongside sharp teeth from its mouth. Right before it came crashing down on one of the row boats taking the six men into the watery depth either crushed or mortally wounded.
