Chapter 21 - Freedom

The bomb's fuse began to burn, even though I hadn't lit it at all. I looked up at her, and her facial expression seemed a little uncertain. The cell didn't have much space, so I threw the bomb into a corner where she wasn't standing. She jumped into the opposite corner of her cell and covered her face with her arms to protect herself a little.

BOOM!

The explosion was much louder than one would have expected, considering how small the bomb was. A loud alarm immediately went off, and a lot of dust was thrown into the air.

"You're really an idiot, aren't you?" she said. But this time, I couldn't hear any annoyance in her voice. It was something else. It was hope. The hope in her voice made me even more determined to get her out of there. The alarm was still blaring, and I heard the guard, who had been sleeping just moments ago, rush down the stairs.

"Get ready. We're not hurting anyone here. That's not why I'm freeing you. We just want to get out of here," I said. She simply nodded and slowly emerged from the dust left by the bomb.

"I've been sitting in this damn cell for several months now. It was about time I got out of here," she said, cracking her knuckles.

"Stop right there!" the guard shouted as he came down to stop us.

I simply sighed.

"I have divine powers. If you so much as lay a finger on her and refuse to let me pass, I'll have no choice but to attack you. You understand that, right?" I said to the guard.

The color drained from his face a little.

"So that's why your skin is pitch-black. I've never seen such a dark complexion before. You're not human..." He thought for a second, then took a step to the side to make room for us.

We slowly made our way up the stairs, step by step. When we reached the main hall, a few people looked inside. But the moment we looked in their direction, they looked away and pretended they hadn't seen anything.

"Divine powers, huh..." Amina whispered. "My mother had them too. But they were more of a curse than a power." I believed her. She was truly honest about what she said, and I could feel it.

"My ship is over there. Come with-" But before I could finish my sentence, she interrupted me.

"I'm not leaving without my axe."
