Allyson's POV
The thunderous bass reverberated through my chest as strobing lights bathed the crowded dance floor in electric blues and reds. The Embers lived up to its name, the atmosphere crackling with energy that made my skin tingle. Gina pressed close, her voice cutting through the wall of sound.
"I still can't wrap my head around you having to work alongside that witch Lisha," she shouted, her breath warm against my ear.
I tipped back another tequila shot, savoring the burn that chased away my frustration. "Trust me, neither can I."
My eyes swept across the packed venue. Gina had insisted we come here tonight to decompress, and while The Embers had its charm, it paled in comparison to the sophisticated atmosphere of the exclusive venues I'd grown accustomed to through my work.
"Come on, let's do another round," Gina declared, sliding two more shots across the high table toward me.
I held up my hand, pushing the glasses back. "I'm good for now."
