Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

After two days positioned on a wind-whipped lookout five miles away, from the Glitterdelve, Cassiathon, Morgan and Celeste observed using high-powered scopes.

Sierra Slate appeared as a dot, at the entrance of the Sirens Belt. They watched her insert the vial into a silent projectile launcher. They observed her aim not toward the bunker but directly into the canyons center.

She was dismissed.

The vial flew through the air a glimmer, in the darkness and broke upon a distinct echoing rock formation far within the Belt.

There was stillness, for an entire minute.

At that moment they caught the sound. Lorelei Wilde started to sing. Though faint, from afar the tune was sly offering comfort offering power threading deceit into the minds of those who heard it. Cassiathon felt drawn to remain and listen endlessly. Morgan scowled, shaking his head as though to dispel the spell. Celeste softly hummed a opposing beat resembling ocean waves.

The music intensified, becoming bolder while Lorelei perceived the disturbance and aimed to overpower it.

At that moment the miracle occurred.

The domain of enclosed quiet now fragmented and spread throughout the canyon's sound environment discovered the melody. It resembled a tuning fork hit by a tone. The idea of stopping, borne on the 's own potent voice started to move upstream tracing the sound to its origin.

The effect was not an explosion.

It functioned as a silence control.

The magnificent cunning melody started to falter. A tone abruptly ceased. A line faded away into silence. They noticed bursts of light from the canyon—Lorelei's protective magic igniting as her main weapon turned hostile toward her.

The song turned into a faltering sound and then with one last hoarse tremble it ceased.

The hush that settled across the Sirens Belt was more profound, than any stillness. It was the hush of a rule being upheld.

Sierra's voice echoed through the comms filled with interference. "Package secured. The Belt is… silent. Unnaturally silent. Lorelei's hold has vanished. The route, to the Glitterdelve is clear."

Morgan emitted a chuckle. "We merely defeated an enchantress using a physics lecture."

However Cassiathon did not rejoice. He observed the Glitterdelve through the lens. The infernal sentinels were chaotic fleeing in haste.. From an elevated balcony he noticed a recognizable graceful silhouette, in red. Valentina Rhodes was gazing at their vantage point as though she was aware of their presence. Her expression was not furious. It was… curious. She lifted a hand not clenched,. In a slow purposeful wave.

Then she spun around. Stepped indoors, the bunkers protective systems activating to a heightened more hostile state.

She was aware they were approaching.. She remained prepared.

The silent note had opened the door. Now, they had to walk through it.
