Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Amanda tried to convince herself it was nothing. A fleeting moment at the gala, a look across the ballroom, a conversation by the fire in his mansion — all of it could be explained away as professional courtesy. But the truth pressed against her heart with every passing day: she was drawn to Greyson Black in ways she couldn't ignore.

At the office, she kept her head down, determined to focus on her work. Yet every time Greyson entered the room, her pulse betrayed her. His presence was magnetic, commanding, impossible to overlook. Even the smallest gestures — the way he adjusted his cufflinks, the way his voice lowered when he spoke to her — carried a weight that unsettled her.

One afternoon, Amanda was reviewing contracts when Greyson appeared at her desk. He leaned against the edge, his gaze steady.

"You've been avoiding me," he said.

Amanda's breath caught. "I've been busy."

His lips curved faintly. "Busy is one thing. Distance is another."

She forced herself to meet his eyes. "You're my boss. I don't want to cross any lines."

Greyson studied her, his expression unreadable. "Lines exist to protect us. But sometimes... they keep us from what we want."

The words lingered, heavy with implication. Amanda's heart raced, but she quickly looked back at her papers, desperate to regain control. "I don't think it's wise," she whispered.

Greyson leaned closer, his voice low, almost intimate. "Wise has never built empires. Risk has."

Amanda's hands trembled slightly as she shuffled the papers. She wanted to resist, to remind herself of the consequences, but the truth was undeniable: she wanted him. The attraction was dangerous, intoxicating, and growing stronger with every encounter.

Later that evening, Amanda stayed late to finish her work. The office was quiet, the city lights glowing beyond the glass. Greyson appeared again, his silhouette framed by the window.

"You're still here," he said.

"So are you," Amanda replied softly.

He stepped closer, the air between them charged. "Amanda, you can keep pretending this is just work. But we both know it's more."

Her breath caught, her resolve faltering. She wanted to deny it, but the words refused to come. Instead, she felt the truth settle in her chest: Greyson Black was breaking through her defenses, and resisting him was becoming impossible.

As she gathered her things, Amanda realized she was standing at the edge of something dangerous — a love that could consume her, a passion that could change everything.
