Chapter 2 - Hora Dominicus

The rift convulsed, like something massive punched reality from the wrong side.

A shockwave rippled down the street.

Glass shook.

Dogs miles away probably panicked.

[ Recommendation: Inquisition Battle Model. ]

Will I be able to battle that giant titan ?

[ Affirmative ]

A grin tugged at my lips.

"Good," I said. "I needed exercise."

The rift split—

And the Colossus crawled out.

All four arms, plated in bone.

A ribbed crown fused to its skull.

Tendril-veins pulsing corruption down its spine.

A maw that unhinged sideways.

It landed on a bus, flattening it like cardboard.

Civilians screamed and ran.

Responders froze.

An older man wearing military unifom swallowed hard and whispered

"B+… we're dead…"

Not today.

[ Objective: Extract Calamity Energy. ]

My halo collapsed inward—

then snapped into three rotating rings.

My wings flared open.

Light veins cracked across my arms.

Runes lit along my coat like a circuit awakening.

The world sharpened, and everything slowed.

The Colossus swung a massive arm toward me.

To everyone else, it looked like a collapsing tower.

To me ? To me I feel excited!

I flash-stepped upward—

white trail behind me—

reappearing above its shoulder.

"Tsk Tsk Tsk.."

My staff slammed into its bone plate.

Light erupted the pure energy from my staff make the cracks spread.

The Colossus howled, stumbling.

[ Calamity Energy: 12% ]

[ Continue Extraction. ]

Only after image was shown from my step.

I reappeared behind its leg, staff spinning.

"Inquisition Art: Staff Of Famine, Dark Penitence!".

A vertical arc carved through corrupted bone, slicing its knee like soft clay. The monster buckled, roaring so loud the space feels vibrated.

Calamity smoke spilled out.

[ Calamity Energy: 27% ]

Good.

I vanished again.

Appeared beneath its arm—

hammered the joint.

Crack.

Another roar.

[ Calamity Energy: 43% ]

"You scream beautifully," I said.

The Colossus swung all four arms blindly—

a storm of bone and corrupted light.

Inquisition-Clarity turned the barrage slow-motion.

I danced between strikes, stepping on air, each movement precise enough to shame physics.

Then the monster mutated.

Its chest split open.

Tendril-veins thickened.

Its rib crown expanded.

A flood of corrupted power surged.

The System updated:

[ Mutation: Bloodwake ]

[ Corruption Potential Increased ]

[ Yield Boost: HIGH ]

"Oh hell yeah," I whispered.

"Give me more."

It slammed all four fists downward—

a shockwave that cracked pavement.

I countered.

The Colossus lunged, all four arms swinging inward like a collapsing fortress. Inquisition-Clarity slowed the world to frames. Every tendril of corrupted bone. Every ripple of muscle. Every fragment of dust drifting between us.

Too slow.

I planted my foot, thrust my staff forward, and met the monster head-on.

Staff thrust—

The impact hit with the weight of a falling building— a thunderclap of pressure that sent ripples through the air. The asphalt beneath my boots cracked outward like a spiderweb.

But Inquisition Mode devoured the blow.

My arms barely shifted.

The Colossus' fist spasmed, bone plates distorting from the feedback. Shockwaves pulsed up its arm, rattling its shoulder and forcing its massive torso to twist off balance.

Before gravity remembered to drag the monster downward—

I was already gone.

White light flashed.

My body flickered in three afterimages, each one a blurred echo of my movement. I appeared airborne above its skull, wings forming a sharp arc behind me.

The Colossus looked up— but too late. Much too late.

My grip tightened on the staff.

Light crackled along the runes— pure, clean, holy violence.

I let gravity assist my momentum—

and brought the staff down.

Hammer blow to its jaw—

The strike detonated like a divine sledgehammer.

Bone didn't crack—

it vaporized.

Fragments of its jawbone blasted outward in a cone of shattering white sparks. A shockwave rippled down the monster's neck, forcing its entire upper body backward like I'd punched the corruption right out of its code.

Its three-story frame roared in agony, stumbling two full steps.

The tendrils along its spine writhed violently— panicking.

And under the crushing echo of the hit, bone splintered and dusted like dried chalk ground under a heel.

The Colossus reeled, half its face hanging loose, lower jaw missing entirely. Its roar warped into a gurgling howl as glowing corruption gushed from its exposed throat like smoke fleeing a broken furnace.

I rotated midair.

Landed lightly on the monster's massive forearm.

My wings snapped open again— just enough to stabilize my stance as the beast staggered.

[ Calamity Energy: 68% ]

Another after image.

I landed on its spine.

"Almost there…"

The Colossus convulsed and tried to swat me.

I slid off its back and slammed my staff into its ribbed crown.

A shockwave burst outward.

Bone fragments flew.

[ Calamity Energy: 89% ]

One more.

Just one.

The Colossus lunged, maw wide—

trying to swallow me whole.

I let it.

At the last moment—

Flash-step.

I appeared inside its shadow.

Staff swung.

The entire lower jaw shattered.

The monster stumbled backward, shrieking.

The System clicked:

[ Calamity Energy: 100% ]

[ Sacrament Dominicus — READY ]

[ Hora Class, Dominicus Sacrament: ENGAGING ]

Everything warm vanished.

My breath slowed.

My pulse dissolved.

My halo expanded into perfect geometry.

Wings unfurled into blinding arcs of white-gold.

Runes spiraled around me like orbiting commandments.

The world bowed inward.

The Colossus froze—

Not from choice.

From instinct.

It recognized hierarchy.

My voice dropped into a hollow, divine echo.

"Hora Domínicus."

Gradually the environment broke.

Wind halted mid-gust.

Dust froze mid-air.

Colors bled to monochrome.

Shadows recoiled, and the ground formed clean geometric fracture-lines.

Even the monster shook—

as if the word struck its soul.

Light gathered at my feet.

I drifted upward without flapping my wings.

"…that's… not Celestial tech… that's something older…"

I raised my head.

And spoke the second line—

authority detonating through the world:

"Salve et Rex."

The light behind me sharpened into wings-of-wings-of-wings—

an infinite fractal crown.

The staff floated.

My right eye ignited red.

The ground bowed as if acknowledging royalty.

The Colossus collapsed to one knee involuntarily—

giant legs trembling.

The divine presence deepened.

Then I whispered the last line, soft as a prayer:

"Est Luci Sacramentum."

Darkness peeled off my body.

Corruption evaporated around me.

The air itself warmed like morning light breaking through a storm.

The Colossus recoiled—

trapped, judged, already dying.

But mercy wasn't the point.

Judgment was.

I raised my staff.

Light gathered at the tip—

a small, perfect point.

Then:

FOOM.

A silent explosion of white erased the monster.

Erase and void without absence.

Ash fell where it used to stand.

The rift sealed like it had never existed.

My halo dimmed.

My wings folded.

Warmth returned.

Breath came back into my lungs.

I blinked.

"…Okay," I said.

"That was dramatic."

One responder whispered

"…that wasn't magic…"

"No," another said.

"That was judgment."
