 Chapter 1

Nathan finally got his eyes away from the report he held. He subconsciously squeezed it, he can't afford this. He looked all around him, everyone in the bar minded their own business.

He just doesn't... he breathed in.

- The missing piece is on the puzzle board, it has always been there. Stop ignoring it and make the final move.

The man in front of him said. Nathan always had this lingering suspicion but he wanted it to be ... wrong, out of place, even thought he's gut never failed him before. He would have been enchanted if it failed just this once.

- You are right it will be cowardly of mine not to face facts.

He said and shrugged, what if his 'wife' betrayed him, it's not a big deal. Everyone always did that why should she be an exception?

He has understood no one can truly love him, accept him or just be loyal to him , finally might be such human relations weren't meant for people like him.

- I'll be heading home.

- You sure you want to do this, she's...

- I'm good ha, no need to act as if it's a big deal...

Nathan forced out that line putting extra efforts to sound natural, he even gave out a chuckle, why was he even hurt...so badly? When did he stop being used to backstabbing?

He returned home afterward.

He knew she was right inside there, he stood in front of the door, slowly he finally got himself to knock but he couldn't wait for the door to open so he opened it himself.

He walked through his mighty hall way, he headed to the kitchen when suddenly, a spatula came straight for his face out of the blue.

He was quick to dodge but that only made the lady that attacked him loss balance. Just as she was about to touch the ground he caught her with his free hand but not in time for her to suppress her scream.

- Aaaaaaaaaah

He lifted her never letting go of the packs in his other hand, they both regained their composures.

- What was that, don't tell me you thought I was a thief?

He asked and just laughed it out of his mind.

- On a serious note don't you think a spatula is just too soft for acts of violence like this, even you?

- That was the first thing I could find, besides why didn't you wait for me to come open the door? You got me really scared plus I was not prepared for this. Why did you come home so early?

- What's smelling like burned bread?

He asked noticing the strange odour in the air. She hurried to the kitchen, he just tailed her.

What was that? The whole space was so messy he couldn't help but voice out: ' did you have a fight with the food stuffs or what?'

She just ignored his remark. She had turned off the fire while he was being busy scanning HIS KITCHEN.

- Guess what, I thought I could make something nice for you...

- You what? Berry you can't even boil water without an electric kettle...

He cut her sounding rather disapproving, completely unappreciating her gesture, she felt it, even saw it in his dead pan orbs. Strangely they weren't dead this morning.

- Will you please let me finish?

She interrupted in a tone that matched his harshness, I mean it's been hours she's stock in this place doing stuff she never tried before. Even if he doesn't want it he could at least just listen and pretend to be interested.

- Of course, go on.

He was defeated. She didn't seem to care if it was sincere or not.

- So, cough, as I was saying...

She just made her little food presentation. She was already past being annoyed. She was proud of her achievement, she even invited him over to take a look at what she was cooking. He noticed it was his favourite dish. He opened the pot and it actually smelled pretty nice too, 'too bad the toaster carbonised the bread' he caught himself thinking.

- So... How do you find it?

She taunted. 'I might not be able to boil water but I can make him salivate.' She sure was expecting apologies but she was patient with some luck she might even obtain a compliment.

- Not bad.

NOT BAD?!!!

- You know what, a taste will surely give you a change of mind

He definitely wanted to unwrap at least this mystery, what was the aim of all this...

He'd eaten only a spoon and she was asking for her score on ten.

He told her that she'd done quite a good job , her food was delicious but he needed some time to think about the grade.

- Why don't you try it in the meantime, try it. It's good.

He watched her choke on her own handicraft. She spat it out and cursed the food, either it was foul or too salty she just kept rolling out complains. 'how did you even stand this!' she voiced out making him laugh. The question is what can he not stand?

The sky was getting rosy when they finished cleaning up the space. He had bought some food on his way home so she just microwaved it while he freshened up upstairs.

Dinner had never been so awkwardly silent. It was silent most of the time but this time the silence was awkward because they did not only want to talk, they really needed to but no one dared to break the silence.

As per the routine they just did the dishes after dinner together. Nothing actually felt romantic about the scene, every one just minded his/her own chore.

Later.

- Nathanael can we talk?

Berry broke the curse. She called him what? Does it mean she knows he knows?

- Who?!
