Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – Crossing Paths

The university courtyard buzzed with life. Students laughed, chatted, and rushed between buildings, their voices rolling like waves over the stone paths. Ren moved through them easily, waving at acquaintances, sharing a joke with a friend, his laughter warm and light. He had a natural charisma, the kind that made people gravitate toward him without him even trying.

Bom nudged him. "Ren! Hello? Are you even here? Or did the mystery of the century wander off again?"

Ren grinned. "I'm here, just enjoying the chaos." His easy joy made Bom laugh and shake his head.

Anurak smiled faintly. "You make it look effortless."

Ren shrugged. He enjoyed the social side of life, even while some instincts tugged at the back of his mind—a subtle unease he didn't quite understand. Today, though, he pushed it aside, focusing on the moment.

Harit's Ego and Influence

Under the cherry tree, Harit sat with his usual commanding presence. Even casually perched on the bench, he radiated authority the sort only someone from a powerful family could carry. People naturally deferred to him, and his confidence was bolstered by the knowledge that he came from influence and wealth.

Noah nudged him. "You've been staring at that guy for a while."

Harit blinked. "I wasn't," he said quickly, brushing it off. But there was something about Ren that caught his attention warmth, energy, a joy that seemed to exist independently of status or influence. It intrigued him, and irritated him in equal measure. Pride made him look away, but curiosity lingered.

Jun's Calculated Charm

Jun approached, sliding smoothly beside Harit as if he owned the space. "There you are," he said, voice honeyed. "I was starting to wonder why you weren't answering me."

Harit's jaw tightened. Jun had a way of commanding attention without force smiling, flattering, and planting doubt simultaneously. Harit's ego bristled. He wasn't used to losing control of the situation, and yet… something about Ren distracted him, made him less certain, less decisive.

Ren, laughing at something Bom said, didn't even notice Jun at first. His cheerful demeanor, the effortless way he interacted with friends, made him approachable and unassuming. No one could guess there was more beneath the surface.

Crossing Paths

Ren turned a corner and froze. Harit had stepped into his path, textbook clutched awkwardly to his chest. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world felt narrower, quieter.

"Hi," Harit said, giving a small, nervous smile. "Ren… right?"

Ren nodded, smiling warmly. "Yeah. Hi."

"I… I've seen you around," Harit said, scratching the back of his neck. "Thought I should say hello—"

Before he could finish, Jun arrived, sliding in smoothly beside Harit. "There you are," he said brightly. "I was wondering where you'd gone."

Harit stepped slightly back, but Ren noticed. There was a subtle tension, a silent acknowledgment that Jun's presence was overbearing, even if Harit didn't realize it fully yet.

Ren smiled lightly, friendly but guarded. He didn't need to intervene, didn't need to reveal anything. He just… noticed.

And Harit's chest tightened in ways he didn't understand, a curiosity mingled with pride and confusion.

For now, the crossing of paths was just that lines overlapping, tension simmering, but nothing revealed. Powers remained hidden. Emotions were quietly stirred. And in that small intersection under the spring sun, something new began.
