Chapter 1 - The System arrived

The sun rose from the east, painting the sky a reddish-blue colour. Birds chirped from the trees as children played in the grass. One of the kids decided to wander off towards the mountains, which were known to have the greatest amount of Beasts. But just before the kid stepped onto the mountains, someone or something picked him up. The kid looked behind him to see it was a wolf pulling him back towards the other kids. Then a voice came from behind a tree, "You don't want to go over there, kid. You could get hurt."

All the kids spun round towards the voice to see Keaton standing right there. Keaton wasn't much older than the kids, being only 15, though the village had still hired him as the village animal handler. "You should all go home; it's getting kinda late," he said, making sure the kids understood.

After a few minutes, the kids left and went back home, but Keaton stayed back as his job wasn't finished. He pulled out a tube from his pocket and opened it. The scent instantly caught the wolf's attention.

"Is that from me?" the wolf asked with a hopeful tone.

"Yes, it is," Keaton replied. "Fresh meat just for you."

Keaton held out the tube of meat and gently put it down on the grass for the wolf. The wolf instantly started to eat the meat. But suddenly, the wolf's ears perked up as if hearing something that Keaton couldn't. But before he could say anything, the world had disappeared.

The green grass, the monster-filled mountains, and the village had all disappeared. Now, in their place was a solid blue floor and a sky that seemed like the night sky.

"What the hell?" Keaton exclaimed. "Where am I? This isn't the village. Is it even Earth?"

But then Keaton felt something right where he was standing—the presence of everyone in the world. Keaton looked around again and again, but there was no one. Just when Keaton thought he was just daydreaming, something appeared.

In front of Keaton, letters appeared one by one. It showed, "selecting power."

"What?" he shouted, jumping backwards. "Selecting power. What does it mean?"

The letters started to spin, changing constantly as if looking for a suitable power for him. Suddenly, something appeared at his feet—two parts circling around him, causing the letters to glitch.

"What is going on?" Keaton exclaimed, trying to get out of the thing circling him.

At that instant, the words stopped glitching. Two words, just like before but different. In the place where the words selecting power used to be was void manipulation. However, before he could say anything, he was back in the normal world.

Yet he now had things in his eyesight as if in a video game, not that he knew what one was. In the bottom left was a health bar, with under it saying "0/50 xp."

"What just happened?" Keaton asked himself.

Then he looked down and saw the wolf looking back up at him, saying, "Where did you go?"

"I don't know myself," Keaton replied, "but we should start heading back to the village. It's getting dark."

"Okay," the wolf agreed
